The 2017 Shell Eco Marathon South Africa was held at Zwartkops Racetrack from Thursday 19 October to Sunday 22 October. This challenge saw 17 teams from Southern Africa compete to design and build energy-efficient vehicles. Only three school teams successfully competed with the University teams from UJ, CUT, NMMU, FUPRE (Nigeria), ABU (Nigeria), ABB (Nigeria) and University of Zambia.
Our Battery-Electrical car competed well and was placed seventh. We experienced technical problems with our Hydrogen car and, despite a courageous
effort, we had to postpone our victory to next year! We were awarded the Health, Safety, Security and Environment Award for the fourth consecutive year. Well done to both teams, not only for your great effort, but also for your excellent conduct and attitude. You showed good character and sportsmanship and held our name high. We are proud of you!
The following students were part of the team: Grade 12 -Tayne Thomas, Michael Hartman, Melita Meyer, Reinette van Rensburg and Jordan Agnew; Grade 11 – Nicole Botes and Hulisani Maduse; Grade 10 – Luc Forgey, Matthew Main, Erin Kahn, Ethan Partridge, Aiden Pennells, Claudio Gomes; Grade 9 – Omphile Senosi, Mia Forgey, Jared Beharrie, Rea Khutsoane, Tadiwa Tekere and Ndumiso Khuzwayo.

On Saturday 21 October 2017, Teacher Maria Luchies, Teacher Valentine Momberume and 27 learners hopped onto a bus to head off to Alberton Christian Academy to take part in the SACSSA National Chess Tournament.
After a long but enjoyable day, the following learners received medals:

We would like to provide our parents with an update on the progress made on the swimming pool construction project as it currently stands:1.Mr. Kobus Coetsee of Inventas Projects has been appointed as the project manger to oversee the process. 2.Mr. Howard Johnston of Johnston Architects has drawn up the site plan, including main pool, learn-to-swim pool, pump room and surrounds. 3.Mr. Herman van der Mast of BD Pool Services has been appointed to prepare the tender specifications and oversee the tender process. 4.C-Plan Structural Engineers have been appointed to deal with the scope of work regarding the engineering specifications. 5.Water Dimension International have been appointed to deal with the hydraulic design of the swimming pool's filtration and chemical treatment systems. We apologize that it seems to have taken so much time to start with actual construction, but it has been important to finalize many consultations with professionals, planning meetings regarding swimming pool specs and the tender documentation.
Our project manager has estimated that construction will begin in February 2018.

Khumo Seakatsie (Grade 4) took part in the Concours Ballet Festival 2017. Their group received 2 A+ diplomas and a trophy for the two dances that they performed.

Mouthful Café will manage the tuck shop at The King's School West Rand as from January 2018.
Mouthful Café would like to create a seating area above the tuck shop for the use of the learners, parents or guests during break times and
before/after school.
