It’s hard to believe that the 2014 - 2015 school year is already coming to a close! Thank
you to all of our students, parents, and staff members for making this a great year. It takes a team
effort to make a successful school year, and I appreciate your role in making this year a positive
one for your child. We experienced many great things this year at Heritage: Identity day, Pro-Kids
show, Dot Day, Fall Family Tailgate, Diversity Week, 4th Grade Basic Aid Training, Music Pro-
grams, Science To-Go Bus, Book Fairs, Family Reading night, Bystander Reward Swims, Science
Club, Running Club, Field Trips, Field Day and P.R.I.D.E Pavilion Prizes.
In the midst of all these events, a lot of learning took place. Students gained deeper un-
derstandings of math concepts, writing skills were developed, and tens of thousands of books were
checked out of our school library. We encourage you to keep your children reading over the the
summer. It may be helpful to set a reading goal with your child. Some suggestions include: read a
certain number of pages per day/week; read a certain number of books per month; finish an entire
series. Math is all around us, so try to engage your child in everyday math; how much change
should we receive if we give the clerk x amount? Figure out how much sales tax would be? What
will be the new total with tax? How much tip should be left for the waiter/waitress if tipping 20%?
18%:15? “Real world” learning is important and fits well with busy, summer schedules.
I’d like to extend a “good wishes” and a “we will miss you!” to our 5th graders as they
move to the Middle School. It’s been a privilege to have them as students at HIS and we wish
them the best next year. To our fourth graders, we look forward to seeing you again in August!
Thank you again for a great year! Have a safe and enjoyable summer!!
Mrs. Dyer
H.I.S. FIELD DAY We will be celebrating a wonderful and successful school year with a fun-filled Field Day
on Tuesday, June 2nd. All of the students will take part in a variety of activities with others from
their grade. These activities will not be competitions for prizes, instead the students will be work-
ing together with others to accomplish tasks and compete for fun. Some of the activities the stu-
dents will take part in are the Tug-of-War, Beach Volleyball, Water Bucket Transfer, and many
others.
The students will be placed into groups and will travel with that group from station to sta-
tion. Each activity will last 35 minutes, with the events running throughout the entire day, with a
normal lunch included.
All members of the staff at Heritage will be working and
leading the events. We request that you do not just come to watch Field Day,
as there will be so much activity and moving around. If you want to attend,
we would be more than happy to assign you to an event to help out.

Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures
We are respectfully asking for your help if you drop off or pick up students at H.I.S. In the morning, stu-
dents should exit the car anywhere along the curb in front of the building. We also ask that you wait pa-
tiently in line and have your kids ready to exit the vehicle as soon as you pull up to the curb.
After school, we again ask that you wait patiently in line and do not pull around other vehicles as this
poses a dangerous situation in a small area. Also, please keep all passengers in your car while waiting
to pick up your students. Anyone exiting the vehicle to walk to the playground, etc. puts
themselves and others in danger. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.
