LOCAL WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2015 KUWAIT: Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) Monday denied as “false” a report by a local newspaper that Kuwait has made offshore oil discoveries. Offshore explorations are in their initial stages following completion of Three Dimensional Survey, said Saad Al- Azmi, KOC Deputy CEO for Administration and Finance. KOC has already announced 3-D Seismic Survey in Kuwait Bay, operations that are ongoing, Azmi, also KOC spokesman, told KUNA. He said KOC did not carry out new offshore drilling, but the offshore explo- ration drilling would start in 2017. Al-Anbaa daily quoted oil sources as saying there were around 14 billion barrels of crude oil offshore. — KUNA MoH produces awareness film on traffic accidents KUWAIT: The Ministry of Health (MoH) has produced and published on YouTube website a short movie to raise people awareness about the dangers of non-abidance by traffic rules. The clip publish- ing coincides with the World Day of Remembrance of Road Traffic Victims (WDR), Chairperson of the MoH’s Media Office Dr Ghaliya Al- Mutairi told KUNA. She pointed out that the WDR is commemorated on the third Sunday of November each year - to remember the many millions killed and injured on the world’s roads, together with their families, friends and many others who are also affected. It is also a Day on which the world thank the emergency services and reflect on the tremendous burden and cost of this daily continuing disaster to fami- lies, communities and coun- tries, and on ways to halt it, she said. Mutairi unveiled that the Interior Ministry’s Traffic Department figures have shown that 99,000 traffic acci- dent took place in Kuwait in 2014 and left over 461 people dead. She urged all relevant bodies to launch a nation- wide campaign to raise peo- ple, particularly youth, aware- ness about the dangers of disobeying traffic and safety rules as a major factors for the growing number of road acci- dents. — KUNA Health Ministry faces antimicrobial resistance KUWAIT: The Ministry of Health is hard at work to face antimicrobial resistance via upgrading relevant policies and protocols, and monitor- ing as well as continuous awareness and training, a senior official has said. This is all being done in line with the work plan of the World Health Organization (WHO), Assistant Undersecretary for Public Health Affairs Dr Majda Al- Qattan said yesterday. KOC denies reports of offshore oil discoveries Saad Al-Azmi NEW YORK: Kuwait’s permanent mission to the UN affirmed Monday that the actual full implementation of the concept of human rights is a collective responsibility that should be shouldered by all the entire international community. There is a direct interrelation between protection of human rights and the realiza- tion of the targets of sustainable develop- ment, the mission said a statement read by Haya Nasrallah Al-Nasrallah, political researcher, to a UN General Assembly meeting on the report of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC). “The level of a nation’s progress and welfare can be gauged by its respect for and commitment to the principles of human rights,” she said, citing the UN Charter which provides for protection of human rights and basic liberties. Since the endorsement by the UNHRC of the second periodical comprehensive review in last January, Kuwait has made great efforts to implement the outcomes of the review, Nasrallah said. The review included 278 rec- ommendations of which 178 were endorsed as they are in tune with the provi- sions of the Kuwaiti constitution and the Islamic Sharia, she said, noting that Kuwait was apprised of 25 other recommendations and partially backed four others. Guided by the Paris Principles on pro- motion and protection of human rights, Kuwait has set up the national human rights diwan geared to promote the culture of human rights and public liberties in the light of the provisions of the constitution and the international conventions. Kuwait backed the UNHRC Resolution 28/20 on the continuing grave deteriora- tion in the human rights and humanitarian situation in the Syrian Arab Republic, and strongly condemned the widespread human rights abuses in Syria and the oppressive policies of the Israeli occupation forces against the Palestinian people, she went on. The Kuwaiti envoy reiterated the call for the international community to shoulder its responsibility for forcing Israel into meeting its obligations as an occupy- ing force under the relevant international laws, and protecting the Palestinians’ human rights as per the provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949. It is a great responsibility for all coun- tries to contribute to the promotion of human rights in order to realize goals the Post-2015 Development Agenda, she con- cluded. NEW YORK: Kuwait’s permanent mission tothe UN affirmed Monday that the actual fullimplementation of the concept of humanrights is a collective responsibility thatshould be shouldered by all the entireinternational community.

There is a direct interrelation betweenprotection of human rights and the realiza-tion of the targets of sustainable develop-ment, the mission said a statement read byHaya Nasrallah Al-Nasrallah, politicalresearcher, to a UN General Assemblymeeting on the report of the UN HumanRights Council (UNHRC).

“The level of a nation’s progress andwelfare can be gauged by its respect forand commitment to the principles ofhuman rights,” she said, citing the UNCharter which provides for protection ofhuman rights and basic liberties. Since theendorsement by the UNHRC of the secondperiodical comprehensive review in lastJanuary, Kuwait has made great efforts toimplement the outcomes of the review,Nasrallah said. The review included 278 rec-ommendations of which 178 wereendorsed as they are in tune with the provi-sions of the Kuwaiti constitution and theIslamic Sharia, she said, noting that Kuwaitwas apprised of 25 other recommendationsand partially backed four others.
