KUWAIT: Kuwait Oil Company (KOC)Monday denied as “false” a report by a localnewspaper that Kuwait has made offshoreoil discoveries. Offshore explorations are intheir initial stages following completion ofThree Dimensional Survey, said Saad Al-Azmi, KOC Deputy CEO for Administrationand Finance.

KOC has already announced 3-D SeismicSurvey in Kuwait Bay, operations that areongoing, Azmi, also KOC spokesman, toldKUNA. He said KOC did not carry out newoffshore drilling, but the offshore explo-ration drilling would start in 2017. Al-Anbaadaily quoted oil sources as saying therewere around 14 billion barrels of crude oiloffshore. — KUNA

KUWAIT: The Ministry ofHealth (MoH) has producedand published on YouTubewebsite a short movie to raisepeople awareness about thedangers of non-abidance bytraffic rules. The clip publish-ing coincides with the WorldDay of Remembrance of RoadTraffic Victims (WDR),Chairperson of the MoH’sMedia Office Dr Ghaliya Al-Mutairi told KUNA.

She pointed out that theWDR is commemorated onthe third Sunday ofNovember each year - toremember the many millionskilled and injured on theworld’s roads, together withtheir families, friends andmany others who are alsoaffected. It is also a Day onwhich the world thank theemergency services andreflect on the tremendousburden and cost of this dailycontinuing disaster to fami-lies, communities and coun-tries, and on ways to halt it,she said. Mutairi unveiled thatthe Interior Ministry’s TrafficDepartment figures haveshown that 99,000 traffic acci-dent took place in Kuwait in2014 and left over 461 peopledead. She urged all relevantbodies to launch a nation-wide campaign to raise peo-ple, particularly youth, aware-ness about the dangers ofdisobeying traffic and safetyrules as a major factors for thegrowing number of road acci-dents. — KUNA

resistanceKUWAIT: The Ministry ofHealth is hard at work to faceantimicrobial resistance viaupgrading relevant policiesand protocols, and monitor-ing as well as continuousawareness and training, asenior official has said.

This is all being done inline with the work plan of theWorld Health Organization(WHO), AssistantUndersecretary for PublicHealth Affairs Dr Majda Al-Qattan said yesterday.Qattan’s statement comes onthe occasion of the first WorldAntibiotic Awareness Week,16-22 November 2015, under“Handle antibiotics with care.”She noted that antimicrobialresistance has come to consti-tute a global challenge, refer-ring to the role of hospitals’labs and anti-infectious teamsto discover resistantmicrobes. — KUNA

NEW YORK: Kuwait’s permanent mission tothe UN affirmed Monday that the actual fullimplementation of the concept of humanrights is a collective responsibility thatshould be shouldered by all the entireinternational community.

There is a direct interrelation betweenprotection of human rights and the realiza-tion of the targets of sustainable develop-ment, the mission said a statement read byHaya Nasrallah Al-Nasrallah, politicalresearcher, to a UN General Assemblymeeting on the report of the UN HumanRights Council (UNHRC).

“The level of a nation’s progress andwelfare can be gauged by its respect forand commitment to the principles ofhuman rights,” she said, citing the UNCharter which provides for protection ofhuman rights and basic liberties. Since theendorsement by the UNHRC of the secondperiodical comprehensive review in lastJanuary, Kuwait has made great efforts toimplement the outcomes of the review,Nasrallah said. The review included 278 rec-ommendations of which 178 wereendorsed as they are in tune with the provi-sions of the Kuwaiti constitution and theIslamic Sharia, she said, noting that Kuwaitwas apprised of 25 other recommendationsand partially backed four others.

Guided by the Paris Principles on pro-motion and protection of human rights,Kuwait has set up the national humanrights diwan geared to promote the cultureof human rights and public liberties in thelight of the provisions of the constitutionand the international conventions.

Kuwait backed the UNHRC Resolution28/20 on the continuing grave deteriora-tion in the human rights and humanitarian

situation in the Syrian Arab Republic, andstrongly condemned the widespreadhuman rights abuses in Syria and theoppressive policies of the Israeli occupationforces against the Palestinian people, shewent on. The Kuwaiti envoy reiterated thecall for the international community to

shoulder its responsibility for forcing Israelinto meeting its obligations as an occupy-ing force under the relevant internationallaws, and protecting the Palestinians’human rights as per the provisions of theFourth Geneva Convention of 1949.

It is a great responsibility for all coun-tries to contribute to the promotion ofhuman rights in order to realize goals thePost-2015 Development Agenda, she con-cluded. These targets of sustainable devel-opment for 2015-30 were approved by theworld leaders, including His Highness theAmir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in last September. — KUNA
