Mdu is a Senior Manager in the Deloitte Corporate Finance – M&A Transactions Services team in Cape Town. Mdu has recently returned from a three-year stint with the M&A Transaction Services team in Toronto, Canada. Mdu’s focus for the past seven years has been providing M&A transaction advise to private equity firms and trade buyers in South Africa, the rest of Africa, Canada and the United States. Mdu has managed and executed over fifty due diligence transactions in multi-ple sectors including Consumer Business, Telecommunications, Media & Technology, Manufacturing, Energy & Resources, Healthcare and Financial Services Institutions. In South Africa, Mdu has serviced various clients including Old Mutual, ZICO, Investec Private Equity, RMB Corvest, Tiger Brands, Ericsson and Grindrod Limited amongst others.

Richard Fienberg joined Ethos as a Senior Executive in 2011. He is responsible for ensuring operational performance at the portfolio company level in order to enhance value creation across the portfolio. He serves on the boards of Waco, Kevro, Idwala, House of Busby and Universal Industries.

Prior to joining Ethos, Richard spent over 20 years at BP where he held several senior organisation leadership roles and Directorships in BP companies. During his time there, he performed numerous strategic roles at both company and industry level including optimising the retail asset portfolio across eleven markets in Europe, responsibility for all sales and marketing activities in South Africa and leading the South African retail business, ensuring the business outperformed its competitors.

Richard holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Natal and an MBA from University of the Witwatersrand.

Shaun joined Ethos in 1994. Prior to joining Ethos, he worked as a management consultant for Gemini Consulting in both its strategy and operational improvement disciplines. Shaun’s direct involvement in 21 portfolio companies (eleven in a lead role) during his tenure with Ethos has equipped him with a broad private equity perspective across numerous industries. He has been directly involved in five public-to-private deals and has developed the skills and experience to navigate these complex transactions.

The combination of his consulting and private equity experience has enabled him to make significant contributions to these companies. Shaun also has extensive exits experience having participated in the sale of 13 portfolio companies to a host of local and international buyers. He has been particularly successful in managing portfolio companies through complex or difficult circumstances, often through the introduction of new management. In addition to his strong deal execution skills, he has developed a keen sense for recognising superior investment opportunities and plays an active role in leading deal origi-nation for the Firm. He currently serves on the boards of Transaction Capital, Brandcorp, Tiger Automotive and Universal Industries. He has lectured extensively at South Africa’s top business schools in the field of private equity, and is a sought after speaker at various private equity forums.

William is an investment principal of the Investec Africa Private Equity Fund. He joined Investec Asset Management in 2007 from J.P. Morgan Investment Bank where he spent seven years working in both London and Johannesburg, initially as an analyst, and finally, as vice president covering clients in the natural resources sector.

He has served on the board of several companies. William holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Bristol in the United Kingdom.

Ron is Managing Director: Southern Africa of the Abraaj Group. He joined the group in 2004, responsible for the $386 million Aureos Africa Fund’s Southern Africa region and the US$50 million Aureos Southern Africa Fund. He has over 15 years of private equity experience gained from institutions such as Gensec Bank Ltd.

He has extensive experience in deal structuring, negotiation, strategic development of, and exit from African companies and serves on the boards of directors as non-executive director of companies including financial services, agri-processing, chemical, communications, manufacturing and IT services. He is a Chartered Accountant, and holds an Honours Degree in Commerce from the University of Johannesburg.

Stuart has 18 years of private equity experience in Africa with CDC Capital Partners, Aureos Capital and Phatisa Group. He is the co-founder of Phatisa Group, which has over US$ 286 million of capital under management.

During his career, Stuart has successfully raised over US$ 1 billion for private equity funds in Africa.Prior to founding Phatisa, Stuart was the managing partner of the US$ 50 million Aureos Southern Africa Fund in Johannesburg, South Africa. Before joining Aureos Capital, Stuart was the general manager of Takura Ventures in Zimbabwe, where he had overall responsibility for the Fund’s success.
