Hacienda Dolores is situated at just a few miles away from the city of Durango, sitting graciously amid pecan tree plantations from where its beautiful tower peaks into the sky. The Hacienda creates a serene and tranquil environment for the distillation of the finest of mezcals. It was originally built during the 18th century and restored to its glory by Don Jaime Gutierrez. Since this period, its chapel has been dedicated to Our Lady of Sorrows (Mater Dolorosa). It is this portrayal of the Blessed Virgin Mary which inspires the name of our brand and her Crown is represented in our crest.

The process of our mezcal begins in the noble lands of Rancho La Campana de Santa Elena, where agave Duranguensis grows organically and in the wild. It is at the moment of harvest when the Jimador must closely listen to the voice of the agave to discern if it’s ready to become mezcal.

Every crown of agave has been patiently meditating for around 10 to 12 years for the moment in which to give its soul to

the heat of the copper. The crown, once naked from its spikes, is transported by

donkey to its next destination. Here, it will be submitted to the burning heat of the fire pit that will give it the characteristic

smokey notes of Mezcal Durangensis Lágrimas de Dolores.

Through reviving these ancestral methods, we are also reviving the productive character and the old

traditions of Hacienda Dolores. However, this time we are focused on the progress and future of an Ancestrally Spectacular

Mezcal de Hacienda.

On the hillsides of Rancho La Campana de Santa Elena (Mezquital, Durango) the Agave durangensis flourishes organically

in the wild. Named after the state of which it is endemic, this agave brings

life to only the best of mezcals and gives it the unique taste that makes Mezcal Lágrimas de Dolores so unique and

spectacular.

MEZCAL JOVEN

Mezcal 100% de Agave durangensisDurango, Dgo., MéxicoProduced and Bottled at Hacienda Dolores.

Immaculate and translucent. This mezcal is incomparable in aroma and taste. As soon as the cork comes off the first delicious notes are released. It is a clear invitation to experience hundreds of years of tradition within an elegant bottle.

As it is served into a glass, the oxygen revives and gives a full body to this mezcal. This triggers a second wave of sensations led by the second note, a smokey and subtle herbal note that lingers but vanishes slowly, always provoking the next sip.

Its taste inspires memories of warm days in the Mexican countryside. A flavour of fiesta, verbena and celebration in every sip that reminds us of our pride to be from Durango.

This mezcal requires a one year meditation within a white oak, first generation barrel. It is this meditation which endows it with a dark and mysterious amber colour and a smooth hint of wood.

During the first sip, a graceful but subtle herbal note floods every corner of the mouth, just before finishing with an evaporating memory cooked agave. This is no ordinary mezcal, sipping it is always followed by a toast for a land full of surprises that gives life to our Mezcal Añejo.

Firstly, the best mezcal is always the one right in front of you.

A glass of mezcal is to be savoured, not guzzled or shot. The only exception is if you are toasting with a group of people in a celebra-tion of some sort. In such case never, ever, try to compete, because

even if you win, you will end up losing.

One must beware that mezcal triggers basic instincts. For this reason one must, under no circumstance, try to befriend the enemy over a

bottle of mezcal. The next morning you will either find yourself lying in bed with your new friend, or in hospital.

Atmosphere and setting should not be overlooked, it sets the drinkers mood. A casual and friendly setting lends itself for a rela-

xing time.

Para todo mal, mezcal, y para todo bien, también. Y si no hay reme-dio, mejor litro y medio.
