Lakeview Commons HAPPENINGS July 2017 SUMMER ROAD TRIP SERIES: NATIONAL PARKS Pack your bags; we are going on a summer road trip! Well, kind of. Over the course of the summer, we are going to travel to 10 National Parks without ever leaving Lakeview! From Acadia National Park in Maine to Olympic National Park in Washington State, we will travel 9,000 miles, see 26 different states, and learn about the unique history, landscapes, and inhabitants of each park. So buckle up! We have a lot of land to cover. Join us in the Activity Room every other Thursday at 1:45pm. In the month of July we will visit The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks! If you have pictures or stories from your own travels to these areas, please feel free to share! Stick around after the presentations to enjoy an art project based on the national park we visit. 4TH OF JULY Happy Independence Day! Be sure to sport your red, white and blue on this patriotic Tuesday! We will get the festivities started with a walker decorating party at 11:00am. Then at 4:00pm, enjoy some 4th of July entertainment with Jim Horvath in the Dining Room. Later in the evening we will sip on some Root Beer Floats while watching the Firework Show right outside our own Dining Room! You won’t have to travel very far to enjoy a spectacular display this 4th of July! It all starts at 8:30pm by the Dining Room. MURDOCH MYSTERIESIn the 1890s, William Murdoch uses radical forensic techniques for the time, including fingerprinting and trace evidence, to solve some of the city’s most gruesome murders. Based on characters from the novel series by Maureen Jennings, Murdoch Mysteries is a Canadian television drama series featuring Yannick Bisson as William Murdoch, a police detective working in Toronto, Ontario, around the turn of the twentieth century. Come watch the mysteries unfold each Monday at 9:00am in the Activity Room.

This Emmy Nominated National Geographic Series is sure to get you thinking! Using a series of experiments, illusions, and man-on-the-street demonstrations, experts unlock the science behind the mysteries of why we say, eat, feel, and act as we do. These 30 minutes episodes range in topics from memory and common sense, to morality and the paranormal. Through interactive experiments designed to mess with your mind, the episodes will reveal the inner-workings of your brain. Brain Games is sure to take you on a fascinating journey into the three and a half pounds of tissue that makes you…you! Join us in the Activity Room on Tuesday, July 18th at 3:00pm for 30 minutes of this interactive documentary series.

THE DONNYBROOK GIRLS“As a family we love to sing that old time music that brings back so many good memories and to bring out a smile or two through laughter and comedy!” This traveling band is made up of some talented Colorado family members! The family of five combines old-timey, Dixie-land, hillbilly music with comedy and spiritual music. Some of their most popular tunes include: Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Edelweiss, and Doggie In The Window. The Donnybrook Girls showcase their funny bone with jokes, juggling, magic, and acting out the comedy routine “Who’s on first?” Join us in the Dining Room Friday, July 14th at 2:00pm for authentic music, artistry and wildly good times!

VOLUNTEER CLUB“The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”-Mahatma GandhiNEW TO LAKEVIEW! Volunteer Club was thought up by one of Lakeview’s very own residents, Laura Ford, in hopes of easily allowing residents to be involved in the local community and encouraging everyone to stay active at Lakeview. Volunteer Club will meet in the Activity Room every other Sunday at 1:30pm with a specific charity in mind for the month.The month of July we will be making various cat toys to give to the Larimer County Cat Rescue. We are constantly on the receiving end of our gracious community; let’s make time to give back!

HEARING AID CLINICChris the Audiologist will be here on the second Thursday of each month for the Hearing Aid Clinic. Please come utilize this service on Thursday, July 13th from 11:00am-12:00pm. Your appointment will take place in the Beauty Shop.

RESIDENTCOUNCIL MEETING

On Wednesday, July 19th at 1:00pm in the Activity Room, our monthly Resident Council Meeting takes place. By participating in these meetings, you can help make a difference in your day-to-day life. This is a perfect time to review the items which are working well at Lakeview Commons, or to suggest changes, if needed. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate!

NAIL CARELakeview’s Manicurist Nicki Hamilton has been doing nails for almost 20 years. Nicki’s services range from clipping and filing, to manicures, acrylic, and gel nails. Both men and women are invited to use this service. Prices range from $10 to $30. Please see Molly to sign up and get more information for Nicki’s visit on Thursday, July 20th.

BLOOD PRESSURE CLINICCome down to the Activity Room on Wednesday, July 26th at 1:00pm for the Blood Pressure Clinic. Nurse Kristi will take your blood pressure on a first come, first serve basis.

PODIATRY SERVICESLakeview is happy to be bringing in Podiatry Services for the convenience of our residents. Preferred Podiatry Group will be coming in to provide this specialized care for our residents every two months. Dr. Weiss will be back in August.You are welcome to sign up for on going foot care at any time. If you would like more information about this service, feel free to talk to the front desk.

HEALTHY LIVING WITH THOMPSON VALLEY CHIROPRACTIC

In their Healthy Living to 100 workshop, you will learn how individuals are living longer with considerably improved qualities of life. During this workshop, The Wellness Champions will apply techniques that we use on professional athletes, making them relevant and applicable to our residents. You will find you are able to live without limits and live like you mean it! This workshop is one of their favorites! Come take a seat in the Activity Room Friday, July 28th at 11:00am. OUTSIDE WALKSSummer time provides us with the opportunity to head outside for late morning walks! Meet Molly each Friday at 11:00am in the Front Lobby for a leisurely stroll around the building. Let’s get out and get some fresh air, enjoy the sunshine, and experience the beauty of summer together!

SUMMER CONCERTS IN THE PARKLoveland Concert Band is wrapping up their annual summer concert series at the North Lake Park Amphitheater. The last concert of the summer is July 11th. The bus will pick up residents at 6:30pm to be seated for the show which begins at 7:15pm. Sign up in the activity book at the front desk to save your seat on the bus. Enjoy a warm summer night and music with your friends!

BUCKHORN NORTHERNRAILROAD TRAIN RIDE

All aboard! Come take a ride on this authentic steam train replica known as Loveland’s Buckhorn Northern Railroad! Built in 1977, this train rolls on 1,588 feet of track, runs through a tunnel, and includes a small depot, water tower, cattle car, and caboose. It travels around the tracks approximately 750 miles per year. Take a seat in one of the open passenger cars and feel the warm summer air move past you while the train chugs you along the tracks! We are heading over to the station Tuesday, July 18th at 1:30pm so be sure to sign up!

MORNING MOVEMENT &MOTIVATION WITH MACKENZIE

Try saying that three times fast! Join our intern, Mackenzie each Tuesday at 10:00am in the Activity Room for a motivational exercise class. Mackenzie will use her knowledge of health and exercise to create interesting and engaging movements for the class. She will also share motivational stories of people doing extraordinary things in their later years such as competing in the Olympics in their 90s…wow!

MEN’S LUNCH AND GROUP The men of Lakeview will be gathering for lunch on Tuesday, July 11th at 12:00pm in the Activity Room where they will enjoy a delicious fried chicken meal.

Men’s Group is back! Come enjoy a light snack and drink on Monday, July 17th at 2:00pm in the Activity Room with your fellow men.

MASSAGE THERAPY Massage Therapist, Diane Thomas, will be providing Compression Massage, Reflexology, and Chair Massage every other Monday of each month. If you aren’t already signed up for her visit, or if you have questions, find Molly and she will provide you with the information you need. Signing up for a session is a breeze! You’ll be on your way to total relaxation when Diane visits Lakeview on Monday, July 3rd and Monday, July 17th.

COFFEE AND CONVERSATIONS WITH CHAPLAIN REBECCA

Each week, Lakeview’s Chaplain, Rebecca, hosts a casual coffee date. Coffee and Conversations is all about learning and discussing topics such as peace, love and relationships, and current events as they relate to spirituality. Come to the Activity Room at 10:00am each Monday for Coffee and Conversations. Rebecca will also be available on other days at Lakeview for one-on-one time. She may pop into your room to chat and check in with you if you are interested. If you would like to learn more about chaplaincy, Molly would be happy to connect you with Rebecca.

LIBRARY BOOK CHECKOUT Dixie from the Loveland Public Library delivers over 30 new books to Lakeview Commons each month. Come on down to the Activity Room on Tuesday, July 11th at 10:30am to check out a new book from the library! If you have any requests for the coming months, or would like to utilize the free talking library audio book service, please let Molly know.

MEET PHOTOGRAPHER STEPHANIE COX

Stephanie McCollister Cox is a local landscape and documentary photographer. She loves to travel, explore new places, and capture people’s stories with her camera. Stephanie will be working with all of the Columbine Health System’s facilities, capturing residents in special moments and daily activities. It is likely you will see her around in the coming months. Stephanie is excited and looking forward to getting to know the residents of Lakeview. If you want more information about Stephanie, please come to the front desk. Lake StreetJoin us for tours of the state-of-the-art CSU Health and Medical Center and learn about all of the services available to the public. The new facility, located at the corner of College Avenue and Prospect Road is focused on elevating the health and well-being of the Northern Colorado community.Representatives from all members of this unique and innovative building partnership, including CSU Student Health Network, UCHealth, Associates in Family Medicine, Poudre Infusion Therapy, Columbine Health Systems Center for Healthy Aging, and Kendall Reagan Nutrition Center, will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about services offered to everyone inthe community. Free parking for the Community Open House is available on-site in the lot on the north side of the building and in CSU lot #575 across Lake Street from the building. Attendees are encouraged to take the MAX bus to the Prospect Station, which is located directly outside the building. Ample bike parking is available outside the main entrance on the north side of the building and at the MAX station.

OUTSIDE WALKSSummer time provides us with the opportunity to head outside for late morning walks! Meet Molly each Friday at 11:00am in the Front Lobby for a leisurely stroll around the building. Let’s get out and get some fresh air, enjoy the sunshine, and experience the beauty of summer together!

SUMMER CONCERTS IN THE PARKLoveland Concert Band is wrapping up their annual summer concert series at the North Lake Park Amphitheater. The last concert of the summer is July 11th. The bus will pick up residents at 6:30pm to be seated for the show which begins at 7:15pm. Sign up in the activity book at the front desk to save your seat on the bus. Enjoy a warm summer night and music with your friends!

BUCKHORN NORTHERNRAILROAD TRAIN RIDE

All aboard! Come take a ride on this authentic steam train replica known as Loveland’s Buckhorn Northern Railroad! Built in 1977, this train rolls on 1,588 feet of track, runs through a tunnel, and includes a small depot, water tower, cattle car, and caboose. It travels around the tracks approximately 750 miles per year. Take a seat in one of the open passenger cars and feel the warm summer air move past you while the train chugs you along the tracks! We are heading over to the station Tuesday, July 18th at 1:30pm so be sure to sign up!

MORNING MOVEMENT &MOTIVATION WITH MACKENZIE

Try saying that three times fast! Join our intern, Mackenzie each Tuesday at 10:00am in the Activity Room for a motivational exercise class. Mackenzie will use her knowledge of health and exercise to create interesting and engaging movements for the class. She will also share motivational stories of people doing extraordinary things in their later years such as competing in the Olympics in their 90s…wow!

MEN’S LUNCH AND GROUP The men of Lakeview will be gathering for lunch on Tuesday, July 11th at 12:00pm in the Activity Room where they will enjoy a delicious fried chicken meal.

Men’s Group is back! Come enjoy a light snack and drink on Monday, July 17th at 2:00pm in the Activity Room with your fellow men.

MASSAGE THERAPY Massage Therapist, Diane Thomas, will be providing Compression Massage, Reflexology, and Chair Massage every other Monday of each month. If you aren’t already signed up for her visit, or if you have questions, find Molly and she will provide you with the information you need. Signing up for a session is a breeze! You’ll be on your way to total relaxation when Diane visits Lakeview on Monday, July 3rd and Monday, July 17th.

COFFEE AND CONVERSATIONS WITH CHAPLAIN REBECCA

Each week, Lakeview’s Chaplain, Rebecca, hosts a casual coffee date. Coffee and Conversations is all about learning and discussing topics such as peace, love and relationships, and current events as they relate to spirituality. Come to the Activity Room at 10:00am each Monday for Coffee and Conversations. Rebecca will also be available on other days at Lakeview for one-on-one time. She may pop into your room to chat and check in with you if you are interested. If you would like to learn more about chaplaincy, Molly would be happy to connect you with Rebecca.

LIBRARY BOOK CHECKOUT Dixie from the Loveland Public Library delivers over 30 new books to Lakeview Commons each month. Come on down to the Activity Room on Tuesday, July 11th at 10:30am to check out a new book from the library! If you have any requests for the coming months, or would like to utilize the free talking library audio book service, please let Molly know.

Stephanie McCollister Cox is a local landscape and documentary photographer. She loves to travel, explore new places, and capture people’s stories with her camera. Stephanie will be working with all of the Columbine Health System’s facilities, capturing residents in special moments and daily activities. It is likely you will see her around in the coming months. Stephanie is excited and looking forward to getting to know the residents of Lakeview. If you want more information about Stephanie, please come to the front desk. The new facility, located at the corner of College Avenue and Prospect Road is focused on elevating the health and well-being of the Northern Colorado community.Representatives from all members of this unique and innovative building partnership, including CSU Student Health Network, UCHealth, Associates in Family Medicine, Poudre Infusion Therapy, Columbine Health Systems Center for Healthy Aging, and Kendall Reagan Nutrition Center, will be on hand to answer questions and provide information about services offered to everyone inthe community. Free parking for the Community Open House is available on-site in the lot on the north side of the building and in CSU lot #575 across Lake Street from the building. Attendees are encouraged to take the MAX bus to the Prospect Station, which is located directly outside the building. Ample bike parking is available outside the main entrance on the north side of the building and at the MAX station.

NAIL CARELakeview’s Manicurist Nicki Hamilton has been doing nails for almost 20 years. Nicki’s services range from clipping and filing, to manicures, acrylic, and gel nails. SUMMER ROAD TRIP SERIES: NATIONAL PARKS

Pack your bags; we are going on a summer road trip! Well, kind of. Over the course of the summer, we are going to travel to 10 National Parks without ever leaving Lakeview! From Acadia National Park in Maine to Olympic National Park in Washington State, we will travel 9,000 miles, see 26 different states, and learn about the unique history, landscapes, and inhabitants of each park. So buckle up! We have a lot of land to cover. Join us in the Activity Room every other Thursday at 1:45pm. In the month of July we will visit The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks! If you have pictures or stories from your own travels to these areas, please feel free to share!

Stick around after the presentations to enjoy an art project based on the national park we visit.

4TH OF JULYHappy Independence Day! Be sure to sport your red, white and blue on this patriotic Tuesday! We will get the festivities started with a walker decorating party at 11:00am. Then at 4:00pm, enjoy some 4th of July entertainment with Jim Horvath in the Dining Room.
