Response to Intervention (RTI) The start of our school year has been very exciting and extremely busy. Over the
past three weeks our team of teachers have spent time getting to know each student
academically by assessing and analyzing their reading and writing skills.
This is extremely important as it helps the teacher pinpoint specific reading/writing
skills each child needs to work on in order to increase his/her reading/writing achieve-
ment and enhance their learning. Our team of teachers instruct these targeted skills
to the students who require further assistance in their reading/writing during half an
hour blocks every day, this is called Response to Intervention.
Response to Intervention (RTI) is MORE teaching time on top of the regular Language
Arts minutes and is devoted to teaching the specific reading/writing skills each child
needs. This year, students requiring extra assistance in K—Gr.4 will be receiving RTI.
If your child is participating in RTI, a note will be sent home explaining that your child
is involved in RTI and the skill being worked on. If you have any questions, please
contact your child's classroom teacher.
SCC (Parent Council) Over the years our SCC fundraising efforts have really paid
off! With the money earned, the SCC has been able to assist
in purchasing home reading books, furniture and learning
materials for our Learning Commons (library), assist with
year end trips, monthly attendance awards, and purchase
several alternate seating options. Thank you SCC! If you
would like to be involved in our SCC parent council, elections will be held on
October 2nd at 7:30pm at Lakeview School. Please come and enjoy an evening
with other parents.
School Hours Please be aware that our outside supervision starts at 8:35. Please send your children
to school after 8:35. Students are welcome to go into the library at 8:35 to read
and enjoy our Learning Commons area.
Thank-You A huge shout-out to President’s Choice Children’s Charity for the nutrition grant which
assists in providing a daily snack for our students.
Also, thank-you to Extra Foods for the donation of bags of mulch which beautified the
front of our school. Your support is very much appreciated!

October is International Walk to School Month October is International Walk & Bike to School Month (iWALK). The iWalk campaign
emphasizes that preserving the environment requires everyone to collectively do their
part in any way possible. Lakeview is participating by having every Wednesday this
month as a “Walk and Wheel Wednesday”. Your child will receive a passport to have
stamped each Wednesday if they ‘walk or wheel’ to school. If they are a bus student,
they can walk around the field twice then come in to get their passport stamped. Once
the month is up, each student passport will be entered for a prize!
The official Walk to School Day is October 10th!!
Parking & Pick Up Please avoid dropping off and picking up
your child across from the school as there
has been a few close calls when students

lot at the end of the day. Safety is our
number one concern!
