Bits & Pieces PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE by Carol Darou

As I look out the window at all the piles of snow, I can’t wait for spring. Canada

A.M. said the sap is finally flowing so I know there’s hope. I am looking foreward to

our in-house demo this month. Nice way to learn some new techniques.

The Quilts on the Tay Committee met again in February and everything is well

underway. Thanks to everyone involved. You are a great group of dedicated people; I

feel excited already about our show this year. The rack cards and posters are printed and I will probably bring them in next month for you all to see.

Thanks to Alexis for sharing her fusible webbing techniques at our impromptu workshop. We had quite a

few ladies show up. I hope you all learned something and continue to experiment with fusible web.

February’s guest speaker was Carla Alexiuk who began quilting 20 years ago. Since that time she has grown to love the art of quilting and is a talented teacher, pattern maker, long arm quilter and self-proclaimed “quiltoholic”. Most recently, Carla became a Deb Tucker Studio 180 Certified Instructor. Her quilt designs focus on traditional piecing excellence, and through her teaching she emphasizes fun, easy ways to create innovative quilt tops from traditional block patterns.

Carla entertained us with a lively sense of humour and a large number of beautiful quilts representing a variety

of quilting styles. Some of her quilts are shown here:

The Mississippi Valley Textile Museum

Located in Almonte, the MVTM is an interesting place to see all kinds of exhibits, events and, of course, the annual Fibrefest. On March 26 is their AGM at 7:00 pm, and on March 28 they are holding a Beginning Rughooking - Primitive Style workshop. Unfortunately, there is not always room under Upcoming Events in our newsletter to list MVTM’s numerous events, so frequently check out their website at www.mtvm.ca. MVTM can also be found on Facebook.

Did you know?

This month’s “F” word ideas for completing your UFOs: Set a timer. Make yourself work on the old project for 20

minutes before you can spend time on a new object of interest. Eventually you should get past whatever was hanging you up on the UFO and you’ll want to get it done.

Make a deal with yourself and do a small project from beginning to end. It’s so inspiring to get something done that you’ll want to finish other projects.

Your tips, hints or general news are needed for this section or elsewhere in the newsletter, so please email or give them to Lynne Green. Thanks.
