This concert featuring upbeat holiday favorites will surely get your feet tapping and your fingers snapping to the festive swing beat of the fifty local musicians who comprise the Wind Ensemble. LAVC Music Department to Hold a Broadway Showcase Concert The LAVC Music Department will present a “LAVC Broa dway Showcase” on Friday, December 9 at 8–10 p.m. i n the Music Recital Hall. This performance is directed by Christian Nova, associate professor of music. Immediately following the concert there will be a post-show reception. Last Chance to Donate to “Care 4 Kids”—Donation D eadline Extended to December 9 The EOPS/CARE Office is asking the LAVC community t o “CARE for Kids” this holiday season by donating a gift to the child of a CARE student. This year, Care 4 K ids will be arranging holiday gifts for 177 kids of CARE students. CARE students are low income single parents taking classes at Los Angeles Valley College. Any individual interested in helping can donate one of the following two ways: (1) Donate $30 (tax deductible) to “CARE for Kids” at the LAVC Foundation either in person (Administration 100) or online at http://www.lavcfoundation.org/givenow.php (type in “CARE for Kids” under other designation, and enter a donation amount); or (2) select a child and purchase a gift at Target (to “adopt” your child, please contact Margaret Sarkisyan at (818) 947-2727 or [email protected]). Celebrate the Magic of the Season at the Valley S ymphony Orchestra’s Holiday Concert on December 10 The Valley Symphony Orchestra will hold its annual holiday concert entitled “Holiday Magic” on Saturda y, December 10 from 7-9 p.m. in the Main Stage Theater . Under the direction of Dr. Michael Arshagouni, conductor, the Valley Symphony will perform excerpts from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet Suite, Mozart’s Flute & Piano Concerto, Rossini’s Overture to Semiramide, Anderson’s A Christmas Festival and orchestral holiday music. - Spring 2012 Schedule is Now Posted Online. The LAVC Spring 2012 Schedule of Classes is now posted on the LAVC Web site. Spring classes will be held from February 6 - June 4, 2012. - Want to Study in Spain this Summer? LAVC Study Away Program will hold an information session for its

Summer 2012 Spanish Language Program in Spain on Thursday, December 6 from 6-7 p.m. in Foreign Language 104. Learn how you can gain 5 units of transferrable credit while visiting Alicante, Spain from June 27-July 28, 2012. All language classes will be taught at the Universidad de Alicante. The program includes a two-day visit to Madrid, a day visit to Valencia, and cultural and educational visits around Alicante. - Help Keep Our Campus Clean—Come to the LAVC Campus Clean-Up on December 8. The Associated

Student Union (ASU) is holding a “Campus Clean-Up” Day on December 8 from 4-5 p.m.; participants should meet in the ASU Office in the Student Services Center 205. Come get your biodegradable plastic gloves and bags from the ASU office in SSC 205 and start picking up trash! For more information, contact the ASU Office at (818) 778-5516.

- Attention Students! Take the Library Survey, and Have a Chance to Win a $5 Print Card! The LAVC Library

encourages all students to take a survey on its service at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/F6KN6Z8. The survey is also available in person by visiting the temporary Library (Monday-Thursday from 8 a.m.-8:45 p.m., Fri 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m., and Sat. 10 a.m.-4 p.m.). Anyone who takes the survey is be eligible to win one of ten $5 print cards on December 9, but must come to the library to get a “raffle” ticket to be entered in the drawing. The deadline to complete the survey is December 16; if you want to enter the drawing you must have completed the survey and turned in your raffle ticket by December 9. - Want to Study in Paris and Earn Up to 8 Units of Cr edit? The LAVC Study Away Program will hold an information session for its 2012 Summer in Paris Program on Saturday, December 10 from 12 noon-2 p.m. in the Foreign Language 102. Come learn about the month-long study program with ESA (European Studies Association), which will take place from July 1-31, 2012. Participants can earn up to 8 units of credit at LAVC. - Don’t Forget to Check Out the New “Dane Picard, Sel ected Works” Exhibition at the LAVC Art Gallery. The

LAVC Art Gallery will present its latest exhibition entitled "Dane Picard, Selected Works" from November 9-December 15. This exhibition of 37 selected works by Dane Picard focuses on the last ten years of the artist’s unique process in digital media. Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS) will accept a limited number of new students starting Tuesday, January 17, 2012 from 9 a.m. - 12 noon in CC104 and 4 - 7 p.m. in the EOPS Office. It offers EOPS students services such as counseling, tutoring, textbook vouchers, workshops, priority registration, progress monitoring and more! The LAVC Library is conducting a survey to get feedback from the campus community on the services it provides. The LAVC Foundation encourages all faculty, staff and administrators to participate in its Employee Payroll Deduction program. By participating, you can have a designated amount deducted from your paychecks to be donated to the LAVC Foundation. The Foundation is a designated 501(c)(3) organization (tax ID 23-7349231) and its mission is to support various LAVC programs, projects, and most of all, students. Payroll deduction raises much needed unrestricted dollars to help the Foundation address immediate college needs. If you elect to deduct $100 per paycheck, you will automatically become a member of the LAVC President’s Circle of Leadership Giving, will receive additional recognition for your support, and be invited to a special annual luncheon hosted by President Carleo. The LAVC Administrative Services Office is assisting faculty, staff and administrators with updating information on the online LAVC phone/email directory at www.lavc.edu/directory.
