william wardleWilliam (Bill) Wardle began his philanthropic work thirty years ago when his parents established the Wardle Family Foundation which focuses on the wellbeing and development of children and families. Bill was introduced to Bridges to Community through his son Douglas. He was impressed by the fact that Bridges highly values the role and responsibilities of the community in every project. Since 2007 Bill has been a champion of Bridges and an advocate for its education and health initiatives.

Bill is on the Board of Directors of the Piedmont Family YMCA and the United Way – Thomas Jefferson Area in Charlottesville and co-founded the Initiative for Effective Nonprofits to strengthen the governance and relationships of nonprofit organizations in central Virginia. Bill also is the Chair and Vice-President of Fripp Island Resort, Inc., a family-owned resort in South Carolina.

Excellence in Global Health and Social Responsibility Award RecipientsThe inaugural Excellence in Global Health and Social Responsibility Award will be presented to a special group of dedicated doctors, Board members, and Nicaraguan leaders that have shaped our health program and projects. Thanks to this group’s passion and expertise, we continue to improve familial health by building sanitary latrines, increase access to adequate healthcare by building health posts and clinics, assess and treat over 2,500 patients annually, and give volunteers global and rural health experience through our medical brigades.

Our Mission

The mission of Bridges to Community is to build a more just and sustainable world through service learning and community development by engaging volunteers to work in developing countries—building community and changing lives.
