reach full capacity by 2014

Singapore, 15 November 2011 – Leeden Limited (“Leeden” or the “Group”), Asia’s Integration

Specialist for Welding, Gas & Safety Solutions, is pleased to announce that its subsidiary, Power

Weld Sdn Bhd (“Power Weld”), has added a new plant in Malacca, Malaysia that will focus on the

production of welding electrodes.

This is Power Weld’s third plant and is located in Ayer Keroh Industrial Estate in Malacca, Malaysia.

The new facility occupies a land area of 138,300 square feet and houses a Manufacturing Plant,

Warehouses, Research and Development Laboratories and Welding Training Centre. This plant is

also located in close proximity to the other two factories within Malacca.

“We wanted to consolidate the production of welding electrodes in one plant so that

efficiencies can be maximized and the other two factories can be freed up to increase

production of the other range of products. Additional resources can also be deployed for

research and development of new technologies and products. Our S$2.6 million investment in

this expansion project encompasses not only production capacity, but also the upgrading of

laboratory equipment for research & development and testing facilities as well as the

establishment of a new Welding Training Centre.”

Mr Steven Tham, Chairman and CEO of Leeden Limited

This new plant is capable of producing 13,000 tonnes per annum and the Group expects that it will

reach full capacity by 2014.

It was reported in a Frost & Sullivan report that increasing demand from Energy sectors would

continue to push the global arc welding equipment and filler metals to reach US$19.29 billion in 2017.

The Energy industry has to comply with infrastructure and safety requirements, hence repair and

maintenance for their onshore and offshore assets will continue to stimulate demand for such welding

consumables. The report also highlighted that apart from Asia-Pacific, EMEA markets (Europe,

Middle East and Africa) will witness material growth in end-users market as businesses shift their

manufacturing bases to reduce operational costs and increase productivity.1

Commenting on the market outlook, Mr Steven Tham added, “Demand for welding electrodes in

the regional markets remains strong. We have also begun to receive a healthy level of

enquiries from European and African countries. We will continue to work on upgrading our

product technology and expanding our product and service offerings so as to remain relevant

to market demand.”
