Lesperance Industrial
Wye
• Track Expansion Proposal • By Robert Hall• MYO- PROVISO, IL• Chicago SU by way of St. Louis Service Unit• Northern Region
Introduction• In this proposal I will do my best to give a brief and
thorough explanation and layout of such plans for a Wye track. • The benefits • layout ( Pipe yard) • Increased revenue potential• SAFETY!!!
Abstract • As there are certain rules and procedures that
apply to our service unit as well as the system makes our jobs somewhat difficult to be done in the most effective and efficient way possible, In order to shove to the pipe yard or any other industry leading south of Lesperance St. we are required to stop and protect each and every crossing not protected by gates.
Pipe Yard Characteristics• Currently has lighting source (just not in use)
• Italigrani Lead (02-740) roughly handles 24 cars from the Derail to the crossovers. Overall track length 1,800 ft.
• Cash Lead (02-735) 1,800 ft. or 30 cars.
Benefits • Avoidance of: Amtrak, Hillcrests, Ballast and any other
Trains• Cuts down a minimum of 30 min. of switching moves
having to be performed by several yard jobs: • YSL61R ( Fri, Sat., Sun.) – has to deliver to the mill / pulls
the run around• YSL72R (Tues – Sat.) - pulls the run around• YSL73R (Sun – Thurs.) – has to deliver to the mill / pulls the
run around
• Multiple entrance and exits from the wye
• Ability to run around at least 24 cars and Multiple engines
Benefits Cont’d….• Fuel Saver – Fuel trucks could refuel trains here as well• Increased revenue - providing more cars faster to the
customer “Happy Customers” • No need to Wye cars for Monsanto (61R, 72R) on the
Mainline (20-30 min. process) • Cost effective-wouldn’t be as expensive as inserting an
entire wye track assembly in some other location that does not currently have track laid. Low Cost and Highly effective….• Keeps Track Gang employees working
Layout Location• The prime location for the proposal is between:• E. Nagel Ave MP 6.O (38.55003 Lat./Long. -90.25421)
• &• Stein St. MP 6.36 (38.54627 Lat./Long. -90.25614)
• Placement of the Switch and frog leading off the Lesp. Ind. Just North of Stein St. near the “QZ” sign. Leading down just north of the Derail into the pipe yard. Between those two points a rough estimate is about 1,000 feet.
Safety• While entering the pipe yard at certain times of the
evening it is almost difficult to operate under poor lighting conditions due to inadequate lighting down and around the derail that was placed just on the lead. • Currently there are light fixtures already in place, but
are off due to none usage of the land, which poses a safety hazard for all crews operating here. “ Courage to Care”
