Ron WashingtonManager, Texas Rangers

In 200, Ron Washington led the TexasRangers to the first World Series infranchise history, capturing the AmericanLeague pennant for the first time andbecoming the first manager in Rangershistory with a postseason series victory.

Washington joined the Rangers in 2006.His 24 wins with Texas rank as 4th-mostby any manager in club history. Beforestarting with the Rangers, Ron Washing-ton coached for the Oakland As from 996-2006. During his time inOakland, the As went to the American League Playoffs five times, ap-pearing in the American League Championship Series in 2006.

Washingtons coaching career began in 99 with the Tidewater Tides.He spent two seasons there before taking over as manager of the Capi-tal City Bombers. In 995, he returned as a coach for the Tides, whichhad moved to Norfolk, Virginia. In his playing career, Ron appearedin 564 major league games and batted .26 with 20 home runs and 46RBIs. During his time in the majors, Ron played for the Los Angeles

Dodgers, Minnesota Twins, Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians andHouston Astros.

Ron has been very active in the Metroplex community since joiningthe Rangers. He was named winner of South Dallas and ProfessionalWomens Club 2007 Trailblazer Award, and he has served as spokesper-son for Dairy Max Healthy Hometown Heroes. Ron has also support-

ed in many African-American initiatives, such as the African-AmericanMuseum and Jackie Robinson Foundation. e native of New Orleansgraduated from John McDonogh High School in 970, where he playedbaseball and football. He attended Manatee Junior College in Braden-ton, Florida. Ron and his wife, Gerry, were married in 972 and reside inNew Orleans.

David MurphyOutfielder, Texas Rangers

David Murphy is among the Rangerstop outfielders. He has the fourth-mostgames of any Texas player. Over the lastthree seasons and in 200, David was theclubs most consistent performer afterthe All-Star break. He batted .29 with2 home runs and 65 RBI in 38 games

for Texas this season.In 2009, Murphy ended the seasonbatting .269, 3rd-best on the club amongplayers with at least 200 at-bats. He fell just nine at-bats short ofqualifying for league leader status for the first time. Murphy wasranked second for the Rangers in walks, on-base percentage, and

sacrifice flies; 4th in doubles and multi-hit games; and 5th in gamesand steals. He established career highs for games, at-bats, hits, hom-ers, walks, and stolen bases, starting in 96 games.

Before starting with the Rangers in 2007, David Murphy playedthree seasons at Baylor University in Waco, where he hit .346 with47 runs, 44 doubles, 22 homers and 42 RBI in 72 games. He was

named first team All-America by the National Collegiate BaseballWriters Association and first team All-Big XII as a junior. Davidplayed for the Wareham Gatemen in the Cape Cod League duringthe summer of 2002, helping the team to the league title as team co-MVP. He continued his career with the Boston Red Sox organiza-tion, debuting for the Red Sox in 2006 with his first MLB home runat Yankee Stadium.

David gave his $5,000 award for winning the April 2008 AmericanLeague Rookie of the Month to fund the SafeSwing Baseball Clinic,a week-long camp to teach young residents of SafeHaven the funda-mentals of baseball and teamwork. Murphy and his wife,Andrea, were married in 2005 and have two daughters.

Talmage Boston is a trial lawyer and base-

ball historian. He is the author ofBaseball

and the Baby Boomer and 939: Baseballs Tip-

ping Point. Boston has lectured on baseball

history at Princeton University, the National

Baseball Hall of Fame, Houstons Museum

of Fine Arts and Southern Methodist

Universitys Cox School of Business.

Bostons essays on baseball have appeared

in the Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star Telegram, the National Base-

ball Hall of Fame magazine, the Scribner Encyclopedia of American Lives,

SABRs Baseball Research Journal, Elysian Fields Quarterly, the Dallas Busi-

ness Journal and on the walls of the Nolan Ryan Center in Alvin, Texas. In

recognition of his work, the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame inducted Boston

as a Media Member in 997.

A shareholder and commercial litigator with the law firm of Winstead

PC, Boston has been named a Super Lawyer in Texas Monthly magazine

every year from 2003 - 200, and currently serves on the State Bar of Texas

board of directors. He also is a past Chairperson of the Business LitigationSection of the Dallas Bar Association. Since joining Winstead in 997, Tal-

mage has been one of the most sought-after seminar speakers at State Bar

and Dallas Bar Association litigation seminars, speaking on the following

topics: electronic evidence, summary judgment practice, Dos and Donts

in the Courtroom, arbitration, alternative dispute resolution and a wide

variety of litigation ethics topics.In the civic arena, Talmage serves as a director for the Society For Ameri-

can Baseball Research (Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter), the Bobby Bragan

Youth Foundation and the SMU Athletic Forum. He and his wife, Claire,

reside in Dallas, Texas.
