LinkedIn King

LinkedIn is a powerful professional network. This training has three sections so you

can fully master the network. In Section 1, you’ll learn the LinkedIn basics. Section

2 will show you how to rank in LinkedIn and Section 3 will cover advanced

networking techniques.

Page 4: LinkedIn King - Amazon S3King.pdf4 Then, click “Create My Profile.” On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can import your email contacts

Section 1 – LinkedIn Basics

This section will provide you with an introduction to LinkedIn. Once you learn the

basics, you’ll be able to build on that knowledge.

LinkedIn Intro

LinkedIn was started by Reid Hoffmann in 2012. It gets about 4 million hits per

day, and is incredibly popular with professionals. It provides an easy way for people

to connect to both individuals and businesses. Not only that, but LinkedIn will help

you get ranked in the search engines.

Register with LinkedIn

It’s simple to register with LinkedIn. Go to LinkedIn.com and enter your first name,

last name, email address and password. Then, click “Join Now.”

Create your Profile

Then, you’ll be prompted to create your professional profile. Fill out your:

Zip code Employment status Job title Company or industry

Page 5: LinkedIn King - Amazon S3King.pdf4 Then, click “Create My Profile.” On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can import your email contacts

4

Then, click “Create My Profile.”

On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can

import your email contacts.

Then, you’ll be taken to a page that says “Congratulations! You’ve just created your

professional profile.” You can share your LinkedIn profile on Facebook and Twitter.

If you do that, people from your social networks can click on a link and join your

network on LinkedIn.

Next, you’ll need to choose your plan level. You can get a premium plan or a basic

plan. The premium plan will give you some additional features, but the basic plan is

free. The free plan has everything you need, so don’t feel like you have to pay.

Once you select your plan, your network will be created. At this point, you can fill

out the rest of your personal information, such as your work experience, skills,

education and your business values. You can also add a photo, and link your

Twitter account and website to your LinkedIn profile.

Page 6: LinkedIn King - Amazon S3King.pdf4 Then, click “Create My Profile.” On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can import your email contacts

LinkedIn Tabs

Now, let’s look at the different LinkedIn tabs. When you log into LinkedIn, you’ll

see a list of tabs at the top of the page. First, you have the “Home” tab, which is

where you are when you log in. You can read business articles and see your

connections on this page. Along with that, you’ll see who your connections are

connected to, which can really help you make some new connections. You can ask

your connection for an introduction to one of his connections.

About halfway down on the right hand side of the page, you’ll see the number of

people who have viewed your profile.

Underneath that, you’ll see jobs, groups and companies that you might find

interesting.

Now let’s look at the “Contacts” tab. If you click on it, you’ll see a list of your

connections. You can use the left navigation bar to find partners, classmates,

colleagues and more.

Next, let’s look at the “Groups” tab. You can create a group for this tab by clicking

the “Create a Group” link. You can use this feature if you want to create your own

network or community.

Now, let’s look at the “Jobs” tab. You can use this tab to search for jobs.

Next, let’s look at the “Inbox” tab. Your Inbox has all of your LinkedIn messages.

Check your inbox to get your notifications.

Page 7: LinkedIn King - Amazon S3King.pdf4 Then, click “Create My Profile.” On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can import your email contacts

6

Then, let’s look at the “Companies” tab. You can use this tab to search for

companies or to look at companies you follow.

You can click on the “News” tab to look at LinkedIn’s blog.

The “More” tab has some extra features. For example, you can upgrade your

account from this tab. You can also use the tab to get to LinkedIn’s Learning

Center.

LinkedIn Extras

Go to “More” and click “Upgrade Your Account.” Now, you’ll see three options for

upgrading. You can upgrade to Business, Business Plus or Executive. If you

upgrade, you’ll be able to use InMail, which will allow you to contact people directly

on LinkedIn. The number of people you can contact is determined by the plan you

purchase.

This is a great feature to use if you want to contact someone but you don’t have

anyone to introduce you.

Page 8: LinkedIn King - Amazon S3King.pdf4 Then, click “Create My Profile.” On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can import your email contacts

7

Next, go to Google and type in “site: LinkedIn” and a key phrase that’s related to

your niche. For instance, you could type “online marketing” after “site: LinkedIn.”

Then, Google will find LinkedIn profiles that talk about online marketing. This is a

great way to take a look at your competitors.

Using LinkedIn for Building Your List

Go to your LinkedIn “Contact” page. Click on “Export Connections” at the bottom of

the screen. Then you can export your contacts to a CSV file. You can save the file to

your desktop and then import it into your email program. If you import into an

autoresponder, you’ll need to find one that doesn’t require people to double opt in.

Now, you’re ready to move on to the next section.

Page 9: LinkedIn King - Amazon S3King.pdf4 Then, click “Create My Profile.” On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can import your email contacts

Section 2 – Ranking in LinkedIn

In this section, I’m going to give you some techniques for ranking on LinkedIn.

Ranking will help you show up in search engines and ultimately get more

connections.

Ranking Factors

1 - The more connections you have on LinkedIn, the better. Ask your

connections for introductions to other people, and seek out people within your

niche.

2 - Also, connect people with shared values. This will help you grow your

community, which will allow you to make more money.

3 - Next, interact with your network. Let your network know what you’re all

about. You might even want to give a free gift to the people in your network.

It will build your credibility.

4 - Become the authority in your niche. There are a couple of ways you can do

this. First, you can have a lot of products and services that you offer. There’s

a good chance that you don’t have a big inventory of products, though, in

which case you’ll need to answer questions on LinkedIn Answers. Expert

status is granted to the person with the best answer.

5 – Keep your account active. Don’t spam other members, but make sure

you’re an active member of the community. Be sure to read LinkedIn’s Terms

of Service so you use all of the features the right way.

6 – Recommendations from others are huge. Get recommendations from past

and current employers, coworkers, and business partners. You can write your

own recommendations and send them to people to sign off on. This will make

it easier on them, and make them more likely to comply.

Page 10: LinkedIn King - Amazon S3King.pdf4 Then, click “Create My Profile.” On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can import your email contacts

9

7 – Join groups and events, and create your own groups and events. Then,

use them to connect with and introduce people. You will rank quickly if you

use groups and events.

8 – Show all of your projects, including previous jobs. Multiple work

experiences will help you rank. Be sure to talk about the skills and values

that the job helped you cultivate.

9 – Use keywords in your profile. Consider adding in some long tail keywords,

since they’re easier to rank for.

Now I’m going to show you how to do some of these things. First, I’ll show you how

you can connect with others.

Connect to Rank

Most people only look at the first five search results on LinkedIn. Thus, it’s

important that you have a good ranking on the site.

You can start the process by going to the search bar and typing in a key phrase

that’s related to your niche. For instance, you could search for “Internet marketing.”

Then a list of people who rank for that keyword will come up. Click on their profiles

to find out what they’re doing to get a good ranking. Look at their keywords,

connections and recommendations. This will give you a much better idea of what it

takes to rank.

With that in mind, you need connections to rank. Accept people who ask to connect

with you, and follow LinkedIn’s recommendations. If LinkedIn thinks you should

connect with someone, send that person a request.

Page 11: LinkedIn King - Amazon S3King.pdf4 Then, click “Create My Profile.” On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can import your email contacts

10

Recommendations

Click on the “Contacts” tab at the top of the page and go to someone’s profile. You

can actually submit a recommendation once you’re on the person’s profile. As I

mentioned earlier, you can have the person write the recommendation for you. If

you do that, the person can actually include the keywords that he’s trying to rank

for. Then, you can write up a recommendation with your keywords and send it to

the person so he can reciprocate.

Find ten people that you actually know and give them genuine recommendations.

Then, you’ll likely get some recommendations back, and that will help you rank.

Join Groups

Click on the “Groups” tab and go to “Groups you may like.” Find some groups that

you’re interested in and join them. This will help you rank. Be sure to participate

once you join so you’re seen as actively engaged.

Create Groups

You can also create groups. Once you create a group, be sure to invite your

connections to join. Also, communicate with the group. The more active the group is,

the easier it will be to get people to join.

Page 12: LinkedIn King - Amazon S3King.pdf4 Then, click “Create My Profile.” On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can import your email contacts

11

Answer Questions

Go to the home page, click “More” and select “Answers.”

Once there, you’ll see a list of the week’s top experts. You can connect with some

experts, and you can answer some questions. Click “Answer Now” in order to find a

list of questions you can answer. Look through the questions and find one that you

want to answer. Be sure to provide an answer that is knowledgeable and relevant.

Page 13: LinkedIn King - Amazon S3King.pdf4 Then, click “Create My Profile.” On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can import your email contacts

12

Keyword Ranking

You want to put keywords in your profile. It’s important that you choose the most

profitable keywords so they will help you get results. Remember, you can find great

keywords by looking at competitor profiles. Once you find the keywords, you’ll need

to put them into your profile. However, you don’t want to stuff them in to the point

that your profile looks spammy.

Adding Keywords to Your Profile

There are five places you can add keywords into your profile. First, you need to

enable your profile for editing. Put your mouse over the “Profile” tab and select

“Edit Profile.”

Click “Edit” next to your name. Enter a keyword into your professional headline.

Next, click “Edit” next to one of your current or previous jobs, and enter a keyword

in the description.

Page 14: LinkedIn King - Amazon S3King.pdf4 Then, click “Create My Profile.” On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can import your email contacts

13

Then, go back to your “Edit Profile” page and click “Edit” next to the summary. Put

some keywords into your summary section. On top of that, include some examples of

how you’ve helped others.

Finally, click “Edit” next to “Skills & Expertise” and put keywords in that section.

Now, you’re ready to move on to Section 3.

Page 15: LinkedIn King - Amazon S3King.pdf4 Then, click “Create My Profile.” On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can import your email contacts

14

Section 3 – LinkedIn Advanced Networking

In this section, I’m going to provide you with some advanced networking techniques.

Be sure to use these techniques so you can take your LinkedIn account at the next

level.

LinkedIn Events

LinkedIn events typically go more viral than Facebook events do, thanks to the

professional feel offered on LinkedIn. Thus, you can use LinkedIn to drive traffic to

your webinar or other event.

Setting Up your Event

It’s important that you use keywords on the event set up page. Those keywords

should target people who you want to attend the event. Additionally, you’ll send out

invitations to your connections.

It’s important to keep in mind that you’ll get more attendees with a free event than

a paid event. Additionally, more people will come if you hold an online event as

opposed to an offline event.

Event Extras

Add the event to your personal profile. That way, more people will see the event.

That will likely translate into more attendees.

Use related keywords in the event description. That will help you get more traffic to

your event page.

Page 16: LinkedIn King - Amazon S3King.pdf4 Then, click “Create My Profile.” On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can import your email contacts

15

Finally, utilize the LinkedIn Events application so everyone can see your event.

Create Your Event

Log in to LinkedIn and click on “More” near the top of the page. Select “Events.”

Once there, you can look through events that you may be interested in. You can join

events to make some connections.

You can also create your own event by clicking the “Create Event” button. Then,

you’ll need to fill out the form. Be sure to give your event a name that will stand out

among the other events.

Once you fill out the form, click “Create Event.”

Then you’ll need to describe the event. Be sure to include keywords in the

description.

Next, you’ll need to select your industry and labels. You can also choose to require

registration. If you do that, you’ll need to provide a link to the registration page.

Then, go to the next page. Once there, share your event on Facebook and Twitter.

Page 17: LinkedIn King - Amazon S3King.pdf4 Then, click “Create My Profile.” On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can import your email contacts

16

You’ll be redirected to another page. The page will have a link to your event on the

right hand side of the page. You can click on the LinkedIn button next to the link to

post the link in your LinkedIn updates. You can also send invitations to your

contacts.

Get More Applications

Next, click on the “More” tab on the top of the page and select “Get More

Applications.”

Click on “Events.”

Check “Display on my Profile” and “Display on LinkedIn Homepage.” Then, update

your settings.

Now, your homepage and profile will both have information on your event.

Now, let’s look at using LinkedIn to find partners.

Page 18: LinkedIn King - Amazon S3King.pdf4 Then, click “Create My Profile.” On the next screen, you can enter your email address and password so LinkedIn can import your email contacts

17

Partnerships

As you know, a partner can really help you take your business to the next level.

With that in mind, you need to use LinkedIn to find partners.

Go to the search bar at the top of your home page. Make sure it is set to find

“people.”

Then click on “Advanced.”

Type in keywords related to the type of partner you want to find. You can also

search by:

Once you choose your options, click “Search.”

You’ll need to go through the results and check out the profiles that grab your
