LOGO FOR EUROPEAN MASTER IN OFFICIAL STATISTICS (EMOS)

1) EMOS is a label awarded by the European Statistical System Committee to university Master programmes that meet EMOS requirements.
2) EMOS is a European network of data producers and universities who work together in further development of official statistics.
The new EMOS logo should transfer the idea of collaboration between universities and official statistics (=data producers) as well as the responsibility of the ESSC for EMOS
> Only the acronym EMOS should be used
> The EMOS logo could be accompanied by the ESS logo.

The logo idea comes from the most common visual representation of statistical data, the charts.
Colours: 3 shades of blue. Blue is the colour of Europe and it also represents professionalism, trustworthiness, reliability and responsibility.

The same logo is used for both network and label. To differentiate between the two the word “CERTFIED” has been added to the label.
This will clearly indicate that the University who has this label is recognised by the European Master in Offi cial Statistics.

Short description of the Master programme
The aim of the study programme Master Studies in Statistics is to educate statisticians qualified in theories and methodologies of statis-tical science and capable to apply statistical methods in important and emerging areas of the society. The programme qualifies for doctoral studies in statistics.
EMOS constitutes a pillar in the study programme Master Studies in Statistics. The objective is to educate statisticians specialized in meth-odological areas of official statistics. Studies are organized as an EMOS module structured within the parent study programme. The EMOS mod-ule consists of studies required to award the EMOS label and additional studies required for Master’s degree in statistics at University of Helsinki.

Applicable Bachelor degree with studies in relevant disciplines (e.g. sta-tistics, mathematics, economics, sociology, computer sciences).

Cooperation partner in Official Statistics
Statistics Finland is the main cooperational partner. Other institutions are The Social Insurance Institution of Finland, National Institute for Health and Welfare and Finnish Environmental Institute.
