Lotus Notes 8.5 Client Installation and Setup (PC)

Part I: Download and Installation To download the Lotus Notes client, click the following link: https://domdoc1.nevada.edu/oitsoftware.nsf Enter your Lotus Notes username and web password when prompted.

Click Lotus Notes 8.5 and choose the appropriate download for your operating system: Notes 8.5 Client for OSX 10.5 (Intel Processors) File Name: C1SP6EN.tar Notes 8.5 Client for OSX 10.5 (PowerPC Only) File Name: C1SP3EN.dmg Notes 8.5 Client for

PC File Name: C1SP4EN.exe

Launch the Notes 8.5 client installation file and extract the contents to a temporary folder on your computer. Click Next.

It will take a few minutes for the Lotus Notes Installation Wizard to launch.

1) When you reach the Installation Wizard welcome screen, click Next.

2) Review the license terms, select I accept the terms in the license agreement, and click Next.

3) Fill in the customer information, select the option: Anyone who uses this computer (Multi-User Install), and click Next.

4) Change the default installation directory if desired. Otherwise, choose Next.

5) Click Next to install the default features of Lotus Notes 8.5 (recommended), or customize your installation (advanced users only).

6) Make the appropriate selections to make Notes your default email, calendar, and/or contacts program and click Install.

7) The installation will continue for a few minutes. When prompted, click Finish to complete the installation.

Part II: Setup To properly configure Lotus Notes, you must first add your Notes User ID file to the computer. Your User ID file will be in the format of yourname.id, for example: “jsmith.id” In addition to the ID file, if you are copying your address book and bookmark settings from an already existing notes client setup, you will also want to transfer the bookmark.nsf and names.nsf files. These files are typically located in the Data subfolder where Lotus Notes is installed. You’ll need to copy the files to a USB flash drive or some other media that you can use to transfer them to the computer where you installed the Notes client. Copy and paste them into the data folder (e.g., C:\\Program Files\lotus\notes\data). If you are unable to locate your User ID, address book, and bookmark files, contact the IT Help Desk for further assistance (895-0777).

1) Launch the Lotus Notes 8.5 client using the Desktop Shortcut that was added during the installation process. When you reach the Welcome page, click Next.

2) Type in the user information in the fields provided: a. Your Name b. Domino Server (e.g. domino7.unlv.edu)*

c. Click Next when finished

3) Locate the Notes User ID that you transferred to this computer by clicking Browse. Once you’ve found the file, you’ll click Open and then Next.

4) When prompted, enter your Lotus Notes password and click Log In.

5) At the Additional Services step, leave the options unchecked and click Finish. You will be taken to a Getting Started page, where you can open your Mail Inbox and perform other actions.

*If you are unsure what your Domino server number is, contact the IT Help Desk at 895-0777 and they will be able to provide that information to you.
