A large section of Indian population still remain unbanked even after 60

years of independence. This malaise has led generation of financial

instability among the lower income group who do not have access to

financial products and services. Poor people, particularly in rural areas, are

often wary of banks and finds branches intimidating. A profound lack of

financial literacy also reinforces the sense of alienation. However, in the

recent years the government and Reserve bank of India have advised the

banks to make available a basic banking 'no-frills' account with low or nil

minimum balance free from charges to expand the outreach of such

accounts to vast sections of the population.

To overcome these impediments to serve the financially excluded and to

tap the opportunity to serve them profitably through identified branches,

technology is a great enabler in 'taking the bank' to the un-banked masses.

Banks today are in an increasingly competitive market, in which electronic

channels play a key role in strengthening the relationship with their clients.

HCL's kiosk banking solution is a one- stop mobile solution that enables

transformation in the financial inclusion services offered by the banks to the

marginalized sections of unbanked and under banked population in remote areas. The

robust, scalable and customizable kiosk platform integrates biometric and ICT

technologies to deliver mainstream banking services like savings, recurring deposit,

fixed deposit, remittance, loans, insurance etc. at their customers' door steps. HCL has

also enabled Aadhar based authentication into kiosk banking solution to enable DBT

transactions.
