The top source market for the tourist arrival was Russia with 23,226 arrivals, followed by India with 18,758 tourist arrivals. United Kingdom stood third with 12,372 tourist arrivals. Other top source markets include U.S.A, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Ukraine, France, Spain and Brazil.     1. Tourist Arrivals

    From 15th July to 16th December 2020, a total of 115,730 tourists arrived in the Maldives.

    The top source market for the tourist arrival was Russia with 23,226 arrivals, followed by India with 18,758 tourist arrivals. United Kingdom stood third with 12,372 tourist arrivals. Other top source markets include U.S.A, United Arab Emirates, Germany, Ukraine, France, Spain and Brazil.

  • 2. Current Situation of COVID-19 in the Maldives

    ISOLATION FACILITIES – FOR POSITIVES

    Currently over 2200 samples are being tested daily (as at 15th/16th December 2020) including departure results, as testing facilities are conveniently available for tourists.

    As of 16th December 2020 we have 3 COVID-19 hospital facilities in greater male’ area with 263 beds and additional 5 COVID-19 hospital facilities across the country with 183 beds. Out of these beds 183 are vacant, respectively.

    In isolation facilities, tourists stay in private areas with special arrangements. In addition, they are closely monitored by our health care professionals.

    Maldives Welcomes 100,000th Tourist Since Border Reopening

    On 12th December 2020, Maldives welcomed the 100,000th tourist since the reopening of its borders in July. At an event held at Velana International Airport, the 100,000th tourist was identified and welcomed by Ministry, together with Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Maldives Immigration and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). The 100,000th tourist, Ms. Jasmin Burki arrived from Switzerland via Emirates.

    4. NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

    Maldives Achieves Milestone of 500,000th tourist of 2020

    On 17th December 2020, Maldives welcomed the 500,000th tourist of 2020. A grand welcome was given by Ministry, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), Maldives Immigration and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL). The 500,000th tourist of the year, Ms Kristin Madeleine Nittke arrived from Germany via Emirates.

    Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom said surpassing the 500,000th milestone “in this challenging year in advance of the forecasted date is the result of combined efforts of tourism industry partners and the government”.
