PRAYER OF CONFESSION Minister: Let us pray together: People: It is so hard to not be afraid. Sometimes our fear makes us less compassionate, and more judgmental. We think we can ward off getting hurt by holding back, unwilling to risk putting ourselves out there for the sake of love. Forgive us, O God. Encourage us to extravagant acts of love, especially when we are frightened. You entered our story through Jesus, now help us to enter fully into the story of your kin-dom on earth as it is in heaven. Amen. ASSURANCE OF PARDON Minister: Know this: There is no limit on love. Love doesn’t run out, and you can start giving more of it anytime. You are forgiven and freed, encouraged and loved by a God who wants you to live fully. In the name of Jesus Christ, You are forgiven. People: In the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Minister: Let us enter the passion of Christ. OPENING HYMN “The Servant Song” TFWS No. 2222

I love to tell the story, because I know ‘tis true; it satisfies my longings as nothing else can do. I love to tell the story, ‘twill be my theme in glory, to tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love.

KATIE’S POSTLUDES for the month of March are by women composers in honor of Women’s History Month. WE ARE GLAD YOU ARE HERE! Claremont United Methodist Church is a welcoming and reconciling congregation, affirming its ministry with the whole family of God regardless of age, race, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, economic situation, or marital status. Claremont United Methodist Church believes its diversity is a blessing through which persons are strengthened to love and serve. INCLUSIVE LANGUAGE IN WORSHIP: Because language has the power to shape our thinking about one another, Claremont United Methodist Church uses inclusive language for Bible readings from the New Revised Standard Version. Some historical texts that are widely known and loved are left unaltered. This, we believe, in no way diminishes our commitment to inclusive expression. We invite persons to change the words of hymns deemed to be exclusive so that the hymns might have meaning for all.

WONDERFUL WORSHIP “TOGETHER” NOW FAITHFULLY FORWARD

We sang, prayed, read the Bible

What an unexpected joy it was this Sunday, to feel so connected across the distance -- the social distance. Many of you who joined worship live or watched the video later shared how much it meant to you to see the amazing creation window on your screens, to feel that you were in this sacred space. And you were. We joined together in prayer and song and scripture just as we do every Sunday.

While it was a hard decision to suspend in-person worship, we found that the Holy Spirit was palpably present in familiar rituals witnessed from an unfamiliar distance.

I am grateful to our worship and tech team who made it possible. Special thanks to Ed Hume who put together the equipment that made the livestream possible and then operated the camera.

With the CDC and California Health Department Covid-19 restrictions in place for some time, we will continue to suspend in-person worship and stream worship on Facebook live. We will continue the practice of publishing both the worship order and the worship script online for you to use at home. In prayer and care, Rev. Karen

ONLINE DAILY DEVOTION RESOURCES

Pray As You Go and Sight Psalms are two online resources that offer daily devotions.

Pray As You Go offers inspiring music, a scripture reading, and questions for reflection. It is produced by British Jesuits, so the accents offer a delightful change of pace.

Rev. Karen uses this spiritual resource several mornings a week.

It can be found online at: https://pray-as-you-go.org/. It can also be downloaded as an app on your smartphone or tablet.

Sight Pslams offers a daily photo and inspirational comment. It is produced by The Upper Room. It can be found online at: https://www.upperroom.org/sight_psalms.

Choir member and SPRC chair, Paula Hui, uses this spiritual resource.

What spiritual resources do you use? Email Rev. Karen, [email protected], and we’ll share others together.

THANKS! MARCH 2020 PLEDGE REPORT Thanks again to the members and friends of our church. Giving of pledged and unpledged contributions for the first two months of the year continued the strong trend you established last year. Contributions for the first two months of the year were $89,041. That exceeded our budgeted amount of $81,931 by $7,110! Again, thank you! Your contributions continue to allow us to provide the ministries and support the missional work of our church. During the year to come, I’ll continue to provide you with bi-monthly reports on how we are doing with pledged and non-pledged giving. Bob Dalton Financial Secretary
