• An introduction to the fundamentals of airborne and satellite borne remote sensing in coastal and marine environments including an introduction to the sensors and platforms used
• An introduction to the fundamentals of digital image processing (DIP)
• Example applications of remote sensing to coastal and marine environments e.g. monitoring of sediment movement, change detection, pollution, bathymetry, mangroves, coral reefs, algal blooms, sea surface temperature, oil spills and contingency planning, emergency response… amongst many others
• An introduction to desktop and online (Internet-based) Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Decision Support Systems (DSS): theory and practice
