MARY RENCK JALONGO

Mary Renck Jalongo is a professor at Indiana University of Penn- sylvania, where she teaches courses on language arts, early child- hood education, human development, and writing for professional publication. In 1983, Jalongo was named Pennsylvania's Outstand- ing Young Woman. She earned her Ph.D. at University of Toledo, her Master of Arts in Teaching from Oakland University, and her B.A. at Mercy College of Detroit.

Jalongo is the author of Young Children and Picture Bwks (Na- tional Association for the Education of Young Children, 1988). Cur- rent writing projects include two college-level textbooks: an early childhood language arts book (Allyn & Bacon), and a co-authored text on children's play and creativity (Macmillan). Jalongo has authored six book chapters and more than 40 articles in national profes- sional publications, primarily Childhood Education, PTA Today, The Rending Teacher, and Young Children. She has received two nation- al awards for writing, one from EDPRESS and another from the As- sociation for Higher Education.

Jalongo is a member of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa and has given numerous presentations on writing for publication through the PDK Professional Develop- ment Institute program.
