We will be having our annual food drive to benefit Sacred Heard Parish for Thanksgiving. We will be collecting food donations through November 18 at the back of the Church. Please see the flyer in this weeks bulletins for more information. Decorate for Christmas - spread Christmas cheer by decorating a Catholic Charities site for the holidays. Decorate the door of a group residence or the common area at an emergency shelter and more! These sites are located in Washington, DC, Montgomery County and Prince Georges County. Some ideas: Bring a wreath to hang on the door; set up and decorate a tree in a common area; hang streamers in the entry/common area/dining room; host a party or provide a meal for the residents; make cards for the residents; provide gifts for the residents. Under direct supervision of Fr. Mark Knestout, this is an ongoing pastoral care ministry. St. Stephen Ministers are members of the parish, intensely trained to care for people who are experiencing a loss, or going through difficult times or life transitions. Mass on Thanksgiving Day, November 24, will be at 9.00 a.m. The offertory will be for the hungry of Sacred Heart Parish, DC. THIRTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Again this year, we will be joining Little Flower Catholic Parish (5607 Massachusetts Ave., Bethesda) on Saturday, December 10 for confessions as part of their annual “Come Home for Christmas” campaign. Confessions will be offered from 9.00 a.m.-5.00 p.m. Both Fr. Knestout and Fr. Daniel, as well as other priests, will be present as confessors during the day.

The flowers on the altar this weekend were sponsored by the Spellman and Sweet Families in memory of Joseph Spellman, loving husband, father, and grandfather. If you would like to sponsor flowers on the

altar in memory of loved ones, living or deceased, please print your name, phone number, and the occasion or loved one you wish to remember on a purple Flower Contribution envelope, which you will find in the church vestibule. Minimum contribution for two vases on the main altar is between $90—100. Please drop off your envelope in the collection basket, or call the parish office, 301-229-7933, and your request will be posted in the weekly bulletin. We can only honor one individual request per weekend, so please bear in mind that, sometimes, the date you require may already be taken. Also, for your information, we will not be able to accept requests for the sponsoring of flowers on specific liturgical dates.

There will be NO St. Bart's Middle School Youth Group meeting this Sunday, November 1 3. SAVE THE DATE! Advent Wreath Workshop in the Church Hall, Sunday, November 27, 9.00 a.m.-2.00 p.m. Come and learn how to make a beautiful wreath for your home. SAVE THE DATE! St. Bartholomew School Christmas Pageant, Friday, December 1 6, at 7. 00 p. m. The Faith and Fiction Book Group will meet on Sunday, December 4, at 1:30 in the parish meeting room to discuss Walker Percy's novel, The Moviegoer, winner of the 1962 National Book Prize Award. The 7th Annual White Mass, celebrating the giftedness of all people with special needs, will be held on Sunday, November 20 at 10am at the Cathedral of St. Mathew the Apostle in Washington, DC. The color white is used to symbolize our baptismal call that unites and binds us to one another. The principal celebrant will be Auxiliary Bishop Mario Dorsonville. The homily will be given by Msgr. John Enzler, CEO of Catholic Charities DC. SOME (So Others Might Eat) invites you to participate in its 15th Annual Thanksgiving Day Trot for Hunger, held on Thanksgiving morning (November 24). The only Turkey Trot in the District, the Trot for Hunger is a tradition for thousands of area residents and a meaningful way to remember people in need on Thanksgiving Day. Proceeds from the 5K benefit thousands of homeless families and single adults, including the elderly and people suffering from mental illness, by providing much-needed food, clothing, and healthcare. The Little Turkey Fun Run begins at 8:30am and the 5K Run/Walk begins at 9am at Freedom Plaza (corner of 13th St., NW and Pennsylvania Ave., NW). Any woman, who has gone through the abortion experience, is invited to attend an Entering Canaan Day of Prayer and Healing on Saturday, December 10th, 2016. Hallelujah, Handel! The choir’s presentation of Handel’s Messiah to benefit Mt. Carmel House is Saturday, December 3 @ 7:30 p.m. in the church. Soloists are all St. Bart’s parishioners – Julia Constable-Allen & Jeanne Hisle, sopranos; Carol Rollie Flynn, mezzo-soprano; Vin Kelly, tenor; John Martino & Daniel Villar, baritones. The choir will be accompanied by strings, organ, trumpet, & oboe. The concert is free with a goodwill offering taken up for Mt. Carmel, transitional supportive housing for homeless women in DC.

TRIGESIMO TERCER DOMINGO ORDINARIO 13 DE NOVIEMBRE 2016 El templo de Jerusalén despertaba la admiración de propios y extraños, era un ícono de modernidad y belleza arquitectónica y a la vez el corazón de la piedad judía. Por eso cuando Jesús anuncia su demolición, no puede sino alarmar a sus oyentes. El camino a recorrer es arduo y difícil. El Evangelio nos habla de amenazas de destrucción, de persecuciones, de ideologías falsas, de guerras y calamidades. Estos peligros acechan la fe y las costumbres cristianas. Pero, no tengamos miedo. Abramos las puertas a Cristo. El discurso profético de Jesús abre una perspectiva nueva: hay que interpretar los acontecimientos del mundo en el horizonte de la cercanía del reino de Dios. Debemos perseverar pues es el tiempo del testimonio y para esto debemos estar atentos para no caer en engaños que nos aparten del camino a la eternidad, aun en estos tiempos que parecen lejanos desde que se escribieran estos Evangelios.
