As many of you know, when we built the church in 2009, one building that was sacrificed to make way for parking was the rectory. Since then, our priests have been housed off site and, for the past couple of years, in separate quarters. It’s important for the priests to have a place they can call home to build community and support one another in a shared living space. The master plan has always been to build a new rectory and we are moving forward. The new rectory will reflect the principles of “caring for our common home” set forth in Laudato Si. To that end, the plans include solar panels on the roof which will convert sunlight into energy used to directly power the house. We hope that you will join in us helping to fund this endeavor by donating to the purchase of these solar panels. We have a parishioner that has generously offered to match any money raised up to $10,000 so every $1 you donate means $2 to this project. To make donations visit our website or follow the steps below.

Q What is the second stage of Christian Initiation, and what happens during this period?

A With the Rite of Acceptance the inquirers become catechumens and begin the second period, the Period of the Catechumenate. Catechumens are apprentices learning the Christian way of life, bringing to maturity what has taken root in the previous period. They receive catechesis that is gradual and in tune with the liturgical year, they are introduced to dogmas and precepts, and they are led to a deep sense of the mystery of salvation. They join with the community in witnessing to the faith in service and in spreading the Gospel. This period is rich in prayer, especially liturgies of the Word and time for reflecting on the Word. These experiences call catechumens to align their lives with Jesus Christ and strengthen their desire to be disciples. This period is ordinarily one full year to allow an experience of a full liturgical year during which the mysteries of Christ’s life are unfolded. For more information about the process of Christian Initiation at IHM, contact Drew Denton in the parish office.

RITE OF ACCEPTANCE Sunday, November 18 The Rite of Acceptance and Welcoming will be celebrated at IHM next Sunday, November 18, during the 11:30am and 1:30pm Masses. This year’s catechumens and candidates have come to us by many different paths—we thank God for lead-ing them this far by faith. Please pray for them and help us offer them a warm wel-come next week.

ADVENT OPEN HOUSE Sunday, December 2 Come celebrate the new liturgical year in the historic church, following the 9:00am and 5:00pm Masses on the First Sunday of Advent. Come hear the beautiful Advent music, learn Advent customs from around the world and make Advent wreaths and other crafts for the home. All are welcome!
