Twenty-Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 1

My Dear Brothers and Sisters, So, the scientists can tell us that marriage is a natural institution, something linked to human nature before it gets linked to laws and politics. But common sense leads us to the same conclusion. When a normal couple gets married, it’s because they want to spend the rest of their lives together and they want to build a family. That’s what marriage is, and if asked why they want to get married, that’s what they will answer.

And if that’s not their answer, their answer is something like “we’re looking for financial security,” or “I need a spouse in order to advance in my career,” or “she’s pregnant and she doesn’t want to get an abortion but we don’t want to embarrass her”…

If those or other external, merely practical goals, are the only real reasons for either one of the spouses, then they may go through with some kind of a marriage ceremony, and they may have a wedding, but they will not really be consenting to marriage. They will be entering into a glorified business partnership, but not into the marriage bond.

Likewise, if one or both of the would-be spouses puts unnatural conditions on the marriage – for example, that they will purposely avoid having children so they can be free to travel, or that if they get a divorce they will divide their property in such-and-such a way, or if the groom is consciously intending to continue having extramarital affairs… In cases like these, the formation of a true marriage bond is blocked. The couple may be forming a legal, contractual relationship, but not the full, interpersonal communion of spouses.

In other cases, even when the couple enters marriage in good faith and does everything they believe is necessary for marriage, there may be an unconscious defect in their capacity to make the full consent necessary to form the marriage bond. For instance, a temporary or permanent psychological condition, In this case too, no real marriage would be entered into.

Let us ask the Good Lord to help us in our families to build up strong spiritual values and safeguard the sacramentality of the Holy Matrimony by being open to life in all its stages and nurturing children in faith and morals.

A FAMILY THAT PRAYS TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER ! Blessed Holy Family of Nazareth pray for us ! Fr. Tom

A Prayer to St. Joseph, Defender of Life

Dearest St. Joseph, at the word of an angel, you lovingly took Mary into your home.

As God’s humble servant, you guided the Holy Family on the road to Bethlehem,

welcomed Jesus as your own son in the shelter of a manger, and fled far from your homeland for the safety of both Mother and Child.

We praise God that as their faithful protector, you never hesitated to sacrifice for those entrusted to you.

May your example inspire us also to welcome, cherish, and safeguard God’s most precious gift of life.

Help us to faithfully commit ourselves to the service and defense of human life — especially where it is vulnerable or threatened.

Obtain for us the grace to do the will of God in all things. Amen.

Ministry in Action Page 2

Women's Society Meeting is Saturday, October 9th in Chartz Hall at 9:00am. All are welcome.

Please think about joining us.

The Gabriel Project Ministry Angels have been working with a pregnant mom for several months. The baby boy was

born six weeks early and is currently doing well in a local NICU. We are asking St. Teresa’s community for first year baby supplies. Please, only fragrance-free baby wipes. Any monetary donations will be pooled for larger items like booster seat, stroller, etc. Donations will be accepted after all Masses next weekend, Oct. 9/10. Thank you so much for your prayers and generosity for our Gabriel Project families.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, On World Mission Sunday, celebrated next weekend, October 9th and 10th, the Catholics of the world unite at Mass to recommit to the Baptismal vocation to be missionaries. As we pray and respond here at home, we are replicating what is also taking place in every parish and chapel all over the world. Your generosity through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith will reach those who await the “Good News” of Jesus, who long to experience His hope and love. Please continue to pray that all of us in the Diocese of Reno may be eager and effective witnesses of Jesus, as he asked us to be.

Sincerely yours in Christ Fr. Bob Chorey

Chancellor—Diocese of Reno

Saint Feast Days To Celebrate in October

October 1- St. Therese of Lisieux

Also known as the “Little Flower of Jesus” because of her devotion to the child Jesus. She loved Jesus from a young age. Therese invented sacrifice beads while preparing for her First Communion and joined the Carmelite Convent at 15. Associated with roses because she said “When I die, I will send down a shower of roses from the heavens. I will spend my heaven by doing good on earth.” Many who ask for her interventions today still report having roses show up in their lives or smelling roses.

October 2- Feast Of The Guardian Angels

Your angel has 3 important jobs; to enlighten you, guide you, and protect you. Although your angel may help protect you from earthly harms, sometimes it’s a more important job for your angel to protect you from spiritual harms.

October 4- St. Francis Of Assisi’s Feast Day

Francis founded the Franciscans. He is well known and is the Patron Saint of Animals. Sometimes on this day, churches will have a “blessing of the pets.” St. Francis made the first nativity set.

October 6 – Blessed Marie Rose Durocher’s Feast Day

She was a Canadian Nun who founded Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.

October 7 – Our Lady Of The Rosary’s Feast Day

This is a Marian feast day that centers around the power of praying the rosary.

October 9 – St. Denis’s Feast Day

St. Denis is the Patron Saint of France. When he was beheaded, he picked up his head and walked with it for two miles, being led by a choir of angels. In the place where he stopped a chapel was built.
