The Master Recording Retreat 6-Day Program is the perfect way to accelerate your learning proc-ess and experience the recording process the right way. You will eat, sleep, create and live music for six days straight – all planned out and sched-uled for you. With a rigorous schedule in a resi-dence style of your choice with your student group peers, you will meet your artist project deadlines effectively, collaborate limitlessly and submerge yourself in your music completely.

This week-long program is designed to merge practical, creative artist workshop training with an intensive, fully loaded schedule for completion of each artist’s EP Promo/Demo Project. Throughout the 6 full days of this program, the partici-pants are taught all stages of the ad-vanced recording process and musician-ship – the industry way, which means with strict project deadlines and zero dis-tractions.

All participants are placed in a small group of 3-6 persons (typically students in the same group while taking a course at The Noize Faktory). Accompanied by an assigned instructor/mentor, a record-ing engineer/producer and occasional housekeeping staff.

Participants at the Master Recording Retreat are an organized group of musicians inter-ested in submerging themselves into their art, by separating themselves from the every-day distractions and completely focusing on their EP/album/Demo. Participants’ objective is to collaborate, network, follow an organized musician’s regimen, learn more about the industry and complete their demo projects. Throughout the 6-day program, participants will be under guidance of their instructor/mentor and assisted by a recording engineer on-site. Amateur and professional musicians from 18 and up, undergraduate students, graduate students are welcome to apply.

From sandy beaches to rocky cliffs to meandering rivers, Ontario’s cottage country has all elements of nature perfect for inspiring creative work.

For decades, industry artists/producers and music professionals have used this method of recording their debut albums. In the music industry, this is a common practice, as it has proven to be the most effective.

The program location aims to provide you with a peaceful environment where you can submerge your-self into your music creation and learning. It’s the perfect retreat venue to focus and give you a better perspective on your music. a place where you’ll have no distractions from the recording process. Set in an acre of stunning land-scaped gardens, minutes walk from the sea, this studio is as equipped as it is picturesque.

For whom is the Master Recording Retreat (MRR) designed?

The Retreat is designed for adult creative musicians who are in-terested in composition, improvisation, electronic music, perform-ance and effective Album/EP composition. Those who consider themselves amateur musicians as well as those who are ad-vanced and/or professional are welcome, along with everyone in between. The Retreat, however, is not designed for absolute be-ginner musicians.

What is the age range of participants at the Retreat?

MRR is open to applicants who are of college age and older, ages 18+. We anticipate that participants will be a wide range of ages. In 2014, participants ranged in age from 19 to 76.

What type of musicians would benefit?

Independent or contracted artists, producers, audio engineers, dj’s, live engineers and entertainment managers.

What are the different “tracks”?

In 2015, participants will sign up for one of four different “tracks”: Recording Artist, Producer/Engineer, Record Exec, Writer/Composer. There is some opportunity to participate in multiple tracks.

What is your student to teacher ratio?

4:1

At what level are the courses you will be teach-ing?

At your level! Our courses will be targeted to our participants’ interests and abilities. Some work-shops are very advanced, and some are de-signed for those with less experience.

How will participants be placed in a group?

Participants are grouped according to their inter-ests and experience. After admission, partici-pants are surveyed on their specific interests.

Should I bring my instrument(s) and equipment?

Yes. if you play any instruments, please bring them along.

I have been studying music for a number of years. Is the Retreat a good place for me?

Yes. The retreat is designed for composers of all levels: beginner, undergraduate students, gradu-ate students and professionals. All composers have the opportunity to write for and work with the ensemble-in-residence.

Will I have my own room?

Everyone will have his/her own or shared room with a shared bathroom (depending on capac-ity).

How much free time is there?

Free time is built into each afternoon and some evenings.

Which meals are provided?

Noize Faktory provides breakfast, lunch and din-ner.

Will I have Internet access?

Yes, there is wireless Internet access. Everyone will get a username and password for the net-work.

Will I need to bring a laptop computer?

Yes and all of your audio material

Can I bring a car and will parking be provided?

Yes. You may bring a car and park it on site

How do I apply for this program?

Your current Noize Faktory mentor/instructor has to submit a request for Program Excursion. After Admissions office approves your instructor’s re-quest, the student must fill out Excursion Applica-tion Form and submit program fees.

Can I bring a friend?

The MRR is custom-designed to each group of students. It is tailored only for the students who apply to this program. You may have visitors throughout your stay – consult your Program Men-tor

Can I leave the program early?

You may leave the program at any time, however, this will result in non-completion of EP album and program projects.
