Maximum Effort for Maximum Achievement’ Friday 26th April 2019 Diary Dates for Next Week School Dinners - Week 2 - New Menu Monday 29th April Update Parents Meetingsfor children who are slightly off their target level Tuesday 30th April Year 3 visit to Colchester Zoo - children need to come to school at 8am Swim Team Training (pm) at Mayflower High School Thursday 2nd May Year 3 assembly at 9.40am Monday 6th May May Bank Holiday - School Closed I hope that you had a lovely Easter break and are feeling refreshed and energised ready for the busy few weeks ahead! We were delighted to welcome Mrs Felgate to our team this week - she will be teaching 3D for the remainder of the academic year whilst Miss Donnelly is on maternity leave. I am also very pleased to share the exciting news that Miss Donnelly gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday 20th April. Both Miss Donnelly and her daughter, Ivy Rose Lily, are doing very well. Our warmest congratulations to Miss Donnelly and her fiancé. On a staffing note, just before we broke up for Easter, we appointed Mrs Tina Paige as our new Admin Assistant. She currently works in a very similar role at Moulsham High School so hopefully will settle into her role at Buttsbury very smoothly. She joins us on Tuesday 7th May. Sadly, today we said farewell to Mrs Strickland, 5Ms Teaching Assistant who has decided to take a break from education for personal reasons. We wish her well in all her future endeavours and thank her for all her hard work and dedication during her time at Buttsbury. Rev. Fowler joined us for our assembly this morning to pass on her thanks (and the thanks from Lucy and Eric) for the overwhelming amount of money we raised to help towards the cost of Erics life-saving treatment - we raised just under £1500 which is incredible. Thank you! Today we sent home details of our parent governor vacancies. Please do take a moment to read the information and consider putting your name forward. Governors play a very important role in the strategic leadership of the school so its a great way to get involved. If youd like to find out more about the role, please feel free to catch me at the gate, give me a call or drop me an email. Year 3 Assembly - Thursday 2nd May You are warmly invited to join the Year 3 children for their assembly next Thursday at 9.40am - do come along and find out about the childrens recent activities and learning. Please note the slight later start time which is due to a clash with Special Time at Buttsbury Infant School. Easter Revision Classes It was lovely to see so many Year 6 children (78 in total) come along to the revision day at the start of the Easter holiday. I hope they found the sessions both helpful and enjoyable. My thanks go to Miss Carroll, Mr Graves, Mr Yaxley and Miss Cutmore for leading the sessions. London Lions Basketball Award Well done to Caela McMorris (4U) who has been selected as this months recipient of the London Lions Basketball Award. Caela has been training hard and has competed in several cycling competitions recently, finishing in top three positions too! Caela has been equally industrious at school and, inspired by Science Week and caring for the environment, has been collecting litter on her walk to school each day! Well done to Caela - we hope you and your family enjoy your family pass to a London Lions basketball game! St. Georges Day On Tuesday we commemorated St. Georges Day with a lovely themed lunch which was absolutely delicious. The dessert, in particular, was rather popular with the children. Thank you very much to Jo and our Catering Team for preparing our special themed lunch. The children who are members of uniformed organisations looked very smart and proud in their respective uniforms and were delighted to be able to represent their group.

Magistrate Visit This week, Year 6 were visited by Dawn Roche, a local magistrate and Justice of the Peace, who spoke to the

children about her role. The sessions were really interesting, starting with a history of the justice system in England, and moving on to the current court systems. The children were astounded to find out that the first female magistrate was not appointed until 1919, so this year is a

big celebration for the judiciary system. Another focus of the afternoon was based around: ‘Everything you do

affects somebody else’ and how ‘all of our actions have consequences’. It was a really informative and interesting afternoon and we look forward to welcoming Dawn back

to school next week for our mock trials!

Brentwood School Open Morning Brentwood School will be holding its annual Open Morning on Saturday 8th June 2019. This is the perfect opportunity for

prospective parents and pupils to explore the School and enjoy a flavour of Brentwood life. There will also be an opportunity to

find out more about scholarships and bursaries. Tours of the Senior School campus will be held at 9.30am and 10.30am, with the Headteacher designate, Mr Michael Bond,

addressing parents at 10.30am and 11.30am. Parents can register online at: www.brentwoodschool.co.uk/open-morning.

Bible Explorers Year 5 are fortunate this term to be participating in the Bible Explorer lessons led by Charlotte and Sue,

from the Billericay Schools Ministry Team. Within these sessions the children will be exposed to inspiring lessons

relating to the Old and New Testaments. The first session, yesterday, was fun filled and action packed,

showing the link between the two testaments.

Year 6 DT Project Last term, Year 6 were learning about South America, and had

the opportunity, just before Easter, to make salsa dips for their final D.T project. The children took time and care

chopping tomatoes, peeling onions, and tearing the coriander in order to make their dips. The best part, of course, was eating their creations with the addition of tortilla chips! Thank you to all the parents who came in and helped and to all the staff for

being so flexible with all the preparing and cleaning up!
