Autumn 2019
Since the beginning of term, Moulsham Junior School have taken part in a
range of sporting competitions organised by our sporting body, the
Chelmsford School Sport Partnership. A number of children have
represented the school and have succeeded in reaching the Essex county
finals in some events and achieving great positions overall.
Here are some of the competitions we have already competed in:
Our year 6 boys and girls battled it out in a 7-a-side tournament with an
A and B team fighting off their competitors with some great passing and
moving and finishing with some great shots on goal. Well done boys and
girls!
Moulsham then entered a table tennis tournament and successfully went
through to represent Chelmsford in the county finals and fantastically came
3rd. Well done! A great result for Moulsham.
A few of our year 3 and 4 children had the pleasure of visiting the luxury
Falcon Bowls club where the Bowls competition took place. This was a very
busy morning where parents/carers had the privilege of watching the
children compete. All children were guided by some of the residents of the
club with their professional knowledge and advice. The children had a great
morning. Well done!
In the early month of September, Moulsham entered a very competitive
cross country competition with over 15 schools in Chelmsford competing.
Moulsham proved that they could hold their own with a number of
individuals and teams qualifying for the county finals. Edan Mullet (4 King)
stormed his way passed the finishing line resulting in a fantastic 2nd place
where he awaits the next challenge with the county finals 2020. Hugo
Young (6 Hughes) also finished in 3rd place securing himself a place in the
county finals. Our year 5 boys team (Tom Cassidy, Charlie Lunt, Josh
Cowell, Oliver Smith-French and Leon Kolath) finished the race with an
impressive 1st place position, they also await the next round in the county
finals.
The recent Year 3 and 4 Cross Country league competition tested all the
children through strength, determination, endurance and the will to win and
most definitely they proved they had it all, with Moulsham winning 3 out of
the 4 possible races. Their fitness was tested with a challenging distance
around the athletics track at the Chelmsford Sports centre. All parents
and spectators showed great support and encouragement for all the children
competing.
Following the Rugby World Cup 2019, a few of our year 5 and 6 children
took part in a Tag Rugby tournament held a Writtle College. Some great
tries scored by Moulsham secured them a space reaching the country finals
which will be held in 2020. Great work boys and girls!
Moulsham then took to the stage competing in one of the fastest racket
sports played, Badminton. Moulsham went through to the second stage to
secure a space for the county finals, but unfortunately just slightly missed
out by finishing in 3rd place with a Bronze medal. Another amazing
achievement!
Here at Moulsham Juniors, our PE curriculum convers a diverse variety of
sports, one of which being dance. We took 16 enthusiastic children to
compete in a Dance festival held at Chelmsford Sports Centre. Before the
competition began, the children took the opportunity to take part in the
dance workshops, which comprised of street dance, strictly come dancing
(The Cha Cha) and theatre and musical. This helped them get rid of those
stage nerves before their performance. Their carefully choreographed
moves were performed to the classic soundtrack, ‘Eye of the Tiger’.
What a performance it was!
Like most sports, Boccia, Archery and Kurling requires good hand-eye co-
ordination. A selection of children enjoyed the opportunity to compete in all
these events against other schools in Chelmsford. This event was held at
the Chelmsford Sports and Athletics Centre. Moulsham displayed a
fantastic performance by showing they had great concentration and
attention to accuracy in the events.
The Reed Football League Moulsham held an inter-school girls football
competition with 6 local schools visiting to
play in a round robin day tournament. This
was great success for all the participants
and the children gained a huge sense of
achievement, especially our Year 6 girls who
officiated all the games played. Moulsham
managed to win the tournament and the girls
were very proud of their performance. Moulsham have recently entered the large schools boys and girls football
league. The girls team kicked off their first game playing St Michaels.
This was a very competitive game from start to finish; both teams kept it
at a draw until the last 5 minutes of full-time when unfortunately, St
Michaels slotted 2 goals past us. The girls never gave up, they played their
hearts out to the bitter end but the result ended in St Michaels winning 2-
0.
The boys B team had their time with the visitors of Great Baddow Primary
school. The match kicked off with both teams attacking from end to end
some with some great shots and near misses. Both goal keepers showed
sheer determination and the match finish evenly with a 0-0 result.
Our tag rugby club has kicked off to a flying start. We played a friendly
with Beehive Lane school, using both our A and B team. A recent after-
school fixture also saw us play a total of 4 games with an end result of 2
wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Both teams played very well.
Chess club Our children who attend chess club have had
the opportunity in playing competitively
against St Cedds primary school. They
showed great concentration and some good
strategic moves and managed a win of 11-7.
Well done Moulsham!
Moulsham have had a very busy start to the school year and we will
continue to encourage our children to take part in sport and build their
confidence to be able to compete. We will all look forward to the 2020
competitions and wish all the teams the best of luck for reaching the
county finals.
