Dearest Parishioners, the re-congregating in our churches truly has been a great blessing. However,
it also comes with many challenges - wearing masks and gloves, disinfecting pews after every Mass,
limiting the number of congregants who can come to Mass at one time. These practices, among others,
have been difficult to accept and we certainly do not want them to become a “new normal.” But our faith
endures. Our longing for God has increased. Our awareness of the presence of others has increased, even
though we have been isolated to a great degree. We are also finding that there is a need to re-visit these
practices and determine if they are necessary, effective, and worthwhile. Some, we have found to be
unnecessary, and in some cases we have found that we may need to do more. We have to find a balance
between protecting people from infection and operating in a sensible fashion.
We are doing our very best to accommodate as many people who feel comfortable and want to
attend Mass, and at the same time keep them safe and healthy. I truly appreciate the way many people
responded this past weekend. Many signed up on our Sign-up Genius, almost everyone arrived several
minutes before Mass to properly prepare logistically and spiritually, and the joy that we could re-
congregate was palpable and contagious. Our Sacristans, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy
Communion, Musicians, and Ushers adapted to the changes we had to put in place. The Hospitality team
members came twenty minutes early to welcome people in and make sure they had masks and missalettes,
and stayed twenty minutes after each Mass to disinfect the pews and make it safe for the next Mass. Some
of them actually did this for multiple Masses.
We realize these steps are not perfect and are prepared to adjust as necessary. If you have a
suggestion or concern, please let us know. As mentioned, we will evaluate the measures we have taken and
will continue to tweak them as we continue to navigate through these troubling waters, knowing that God
is with us to guide and protect us.
Fr Steve

God of power and mercy, you destroy war and
put down earthly pride. Banish violence from
our midst and wipe away our tears, that we may all deserve to be called your sons and
daughters. Keep in your mercy those men and
women who have died in the cause of freedom
and bring them safely into your kingdom of
justice and peace. We ask this though Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen —from Catholic
