I was fortunate in that I never had to watch as this painful loss happened to my parents. They both died after a short illness. As people of faith, people who believe in the truth of Jesus’ resurrection and, even more than that, believe in the truth of God’s eternal love for each of us, we believe that death is not the end, but only the beginning of the perfect life that our creator has always dreamed for us. As people of faith, we believe that in the midst of the storms we face in life, the rains and the clouds will eventually pass and the sun will shine again and all will be well. As people of faith, we know that all we need to do to survive the difficult days of our life is just to hold onto our faith, hold onto our trust that God is good and that God doesn’t forget or abandon us, and that, in the end, God will make all things new. Back to Ashley Campbell. Knowing that the day was coming when her father would not recognize her, she wrote a song about what that experience would be like for them both. The title of the song is “Remembering.” It’s touching and sad and joyful all at the same time. You can find it on YouTube. Listen to it when you can. Here are the words to the chorus: “Bone for bone we are the same. Bones get tired and they can’t carry all the weight. We can talk until you can’t even remember my name. Daddy, don’t you worry, I’ll do the remembering.” Sometimes in the midst of our suffering and our pain, we forget about the God who promises us redemption and release from all of our trials. But even when we may forget, our loving heavenly Father never does. We have a Father who promises always to do the remembering for us, remembering who we are and remembering who he has always promised to be, and remembering how he has promised to never let our journeys end without an Easter. Wherever you may be, wherever you may go, whatever joys or sorrows may accompany you along your journey, remember, never forget, that this life will never end without an Easter – just for you. Thanks be to God.

This annual event is generally held around the first of May in celebration of National Be Kind to Animals Week. The American Humane Association created Be Kind to Animals Week in 1915 to encourage compassion to all animals & to raise awareness of the unique bond between humans & animals. 16 years ago the HSRC implemented Lights of Love as a means of raising funds for the veterinary care & rehabilitation of sick or injured stray & abandoned animals acquired by the organization & as an opportunity for supporters to recognize their friends & loved ones.

RHM is in desperate need of money for food & electric bills! The “Items of the Month” for May are Dried/Canned Beans! Any non-perishable food items/paper products are appreciated. Items may

be placed in the basket in the Narthex. Thanks for your continued support! To volunteer or for more information, please call 704-637-6838 or visit

Ever wonder what LSC is all about? Here’s an explanation straight from their webpage! With the help of thousands of volunteers, donors, and faith partners, LSC helps veterans and others transition from homelessness to dignity; protects children at risk of abuse and neglect with foster care; improves the lives of those battling severe and persistent mental illness through innovative programs; encourages growth and independence for those with developmental disabilities; places children in loving adoptive homes; provides warmth and welcome to refugees seeking sanctuary; and enables many men and women with varying life challenges or disabilities to live proudly and independently with residential or supportive services. LSC also provides comprehensive residential options and support services to North Carolina seniors including vibrant retirement communities, quality rehabilitation and skilled care nursing services, assisted living residences, at-home care, adult day services, geriatric care management, and caregiver support.

It’s spring & thoughts turn to warm weather, so I thought I’d share

“Ferdinand & Isabella” painted (& prints) by my daddy, Curtis Waller. Daddy is a self-taught artist & his amazing talent is definitely “God

given”. He got ducks so he could study them & get every detail just right. He would tape feathers to his desk so he

could mix the colors. Ferdinand lived to be 24 years old! The vet didn’t know

they could live that long. Nise

Calvary Lutheran Church Mission Statement

Calvary Lutheran Church is a fellowship of Christian believers who are led by the Holy Spirit. We welcome all into our fellowship to hear the Word of God preached and to worship together. We see our mission to be one of witnessing to God’s grace by reaching out to all, using our talents actively to show our love and

concern for others. In doing this we work to show how exciting being a Christian is and how we hope

to attain a unity of our faith.
