“The Power of Midrash” Given by Rabbi Chaim Landau
How Midrash takes on a Biblical story and transforms it into high-drama. Focusing on a variety of Midrashic texts and how they completely changed the entire character of the stories they seek to elaborate. Why, and what are the lessons being taught by these new insights?
in the Chapel: Mondays, 7:30 pm; January 24, 31
Laws and Practices of Speech Morality by Dr. Russell Hendel This class will review at a high level the prohibitions of gossip, slander and maligning. We will also dis-cuss proper speech ethics in warning people. We will present real life situations and present checklists. We will deal extensively with common psychological situations - marriages, dates, business partnerships, shul politics, family squabbles, hirings, promotions, firings - and how to deal with the urge to say things as well as recommended practices. No prerequisites are assumed. The class text is a surprise, but is free and given by the instructor.
