oPeninG tiPHaving defeated its last two opponents by 74 combined points, St. Bonaventure heads into its game at No. 25/RV NC State Saturday looking for its best start to a season since the 2001-02 campaign. That team also started 8-3 before finishing with 17 wins and making an appearance in the NIT. The Bonnies will be looking to avenge a last-second loss against the Wolfpack last year in Rochester, 67-65. NC State – the preseason ACC favorite this year – completed a full-court entry pass, and C.J. Leslie finished a tough-angle layup with .8 seconds left. Subsequent replays showed that Leslie may have stepped on the baseline, but the call stood.

last time outBonaventure displayed its balanced offensive attack once again as five scorers reached double figures, and four netted at least 15 points to help lead the Brown and White to a dominant 97-57 win over The Citadel Wednesday night. St. Bona set season highs in points, assists (26), steals (13) and field-goal percentage (56.5) against the Southern Conference member. The 26 assists are the most by the Bonnies in a game since the 2009-10 season when they dished out the same amount against Norfolk State on Nov. 28. Additionally, the 13 steals in a game are the most since that same 2009-10 year against Duquesne when they also had 13 thefts.

Historic winCombined with its 87-53 victory over Cleveland State on Saturday, St. Bonaventure has now won by 30 points or more in consecutive games for the first time since the 1969-70 season. During that season, the Bob Lanier-led Bonnies defeated Baldwin-Wallace (96-63) and Loyola, Md. (96-52) in back-to-back contests. Later in that year, SBU and NC State met in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament as the Bonnies eventually advanced to the Final Four.

touGH closinG stretcHThe game against NC State marks the first of a difficult closing non-conference stretch for the Bonnies. SBU finishes is non-league docket with three teams which went to the NCAA Tournament last year, beginning with the Wolfpack, continuing with Iona and concluding with a trip to Colorado State.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – C.J. Leslie hauled in a full-court pass in traffic and scored a tough layup with 0.8 seconds left to give NC State a 67-65 victory over St. Bonaventure at the Blue Cross Arena.

After Eric Mosley drove to the basket and was fouled with just 3.1 seconds left, the Louisville native sank both attempts from the line, tying the game for the ninth time, 65-65. On the ensuing inbounds, NC State’s CJ Williams directed a long pass – barely missing the center-court video board – that found Leslie on the left baseline and behind the basket.

Leslie took a dribble and lifted a floater that hit off the rim and fell in as the scoreboard ticked down to zero. Officials reviewed the play and put 0.8 sec-onds back on the clock.

NC State deflected the Bonnies’ inbound pass to seal the nail-biter.

Andrew Nicholson and Demitrius Conger each scored 16 for St. Bonaventure, while Mosley add-ed 15. NC State’s Scott Wood knocked down all eight of his free throws to pace the Wolfpack with a season-high 20 points. Leslie totaled 12, includ-ing his game-winner.

Prior to last season’s meeting, the only other time St. Bonaventure and NC State faced each other was in the Second Round of the 1970 NCAA Tournament. Behind 24 points and 19 rebounds from NBA Hall of Famer Bob Lanier, Bonaventure earned an 80-68 win and would go on to reach the Final Four. Ironically, St. Bonaventure held a 39-37 halftime lead in

both that game and last year’s contest.

raleiGH HistoryWhile Bonaventure has never played NC State in Raleigh, the Bonnies do have a history in town. They are winless in two games they have played, with losses to North Carolina and Columbia in the 1968 NCAA Tournament. The Tar Heels topped SBU in the Second Round, while Columbia prevailed in the subsequent consolation.

Additionally, last year the St. Bonaventure women’s team dropped its Sweet Sixteen game in Raleigh against eventual national runner-up Notre Dame. Current sophomores Jordan Gathers and Youssou Ndoye were part of the hundreds of students who made the 600-mile trip as SBU finished the year 31-4.

sPecialty statsSt. Bonaventure turned 20 Citadel turnovers on Wednesday into a season-high 30 points. That total, coupled with the 26 it converted against Cleveland State last Saturday, represents 30.6 percent of its cumulative points off turnovers for the year (56 of 183). Additionally, the Bona bench has produced 90 points in the last two games – 44 against The Citadel and 46 opposite Cleveland State. That represents 36.6 percent of its entire total for the year (246 points).

Perfect BacKcourtBoth Eric Mosley and Jordan Gathers came off the bench against The Citadel and combined to issue 13 assists. Mosley had a career-high seven, while Gathers also set a career high with his six. Those two totals both represent single-game highs by any Bona player in assists so far this year. Even more impressive is that neither Mosley nor Gathers had a turnover. On the year, Gathers leads the Bonnies with a 2.7 assist-to-turnover ratio (19 assists, 7 turnovers), and Mosley is second on the team at 2.2 (20 assists, 9 turnovers).

Bonnies vs. BcsThis will be Bonaventure’s first game of the year against a BCS school. Bonaventure faced four BCS teams last year, going 0-4, but losing three of them (Illinois, NC State, Florida State) by five points or less. In his previous five years at the helm of SBU, head coach Mark Schmidt is 2-9 against BCS teams, but his teams have fielded high-quality performances as seven of those nine losses have been by five points or less.

leadinG wire-to-wireCharlon Kloof opened the scoring Wednesday with a 3-pointer just 12 seconds into SBU’s game

against The Citadel, and the Bonnies never looked back, leading the entire 40 minutes. It marked the second time this year already that Bonaventure has never trailed in a game, with the other coming at Cornell in its first road game of the season.

cominG on stronGOver the last three games, sophomore Jordan Gathers has shown signs of why he started the final nine games of last year. Through the first seven games of the year, the guard has scored just six total points, played 58 minutes and issued six assists against five turnovers. Over the last three games, the California native has scored 20 points, played 68 minutes and issued 13 assists against two turnovers.

Best decemBer in a decade?With a win against NC State, St. Bonaventure would pick up its fifth win in the month of December for the first time since the 2001-02 team claimed six victories.

Home court advantaGeThroughout much of its history, the Reilly Center has been feared by many opponents as one of the most difficult places to play in the country, so much so that in 2003 it prompted ESPN’s Jay Bilas to label it as one of his top-5 “Hostile Homes” in the nation. While that may not have been the case throughout much of the last decade, the RC is gradually becoming the feared venue it once was. SBU is 5-0 already this year on Bob Lanier Court, and has won 15 of its last 16 regular-season home games, and 21 of 23 dating back to the 2010-11 campaign.

conGer nearinG elite comPanyDemitrius Conger is closing in on 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 200 assists for his career. The senior enters the game against NC State with 933 points, 516 rebounds and 190 assists. The only other St. Bonaventure players to reach 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 200 assists are Ahmad Smith, who registered 1,261 points, 536 rebounds and 245 assists from 2002-2006, and David Vanterpool, who posted 1,474 points, 630 rebounds and 401 assists from 1991-95. Additionally, Conger needs just 31 more steals to reach 100 thefts in his career. If the Brooklyn native were to get to that milestone, he would join Vanterpool as the only two players in St. Bonaventure history with 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 200 assists and 100 steals.

have come by four points or less (at Canisius, 72-69; at Ohio, 69-65; at Arkansas State, 73-70). Two of those losses (Ohio, Arkansas State) came in the closing seconds as each team hit a game-winning 25-foot 3-pointer in transition. In all, six of the Bonnies’ first eight games were decided by five points or less, and until their consecutive blowouts of Cleveland State and The Citadel, only one game (Siena, 58-43) had been decided by more than 10 points.

carryinG a Heavy weiGHtSenior Demitrius Conger has played 344 minutes this year, which is 54 minutes more than anyone else on the Bona roster. The next closest is Chris Johnson, who has logged 290 minutes, and after him is Matthew Wright at 252 minutes. Nine SBU players average double-figure minutes per game, but Conger is on pace for his third straight season of 1,000 or more minutes. He logged a career-high 1,088 as a sophomore and 1,073 last year as a junior.

Bounce BacK BonniesBonaventure has proven the ability to bounce back from a non-conference loss very well over the past two years. With its victory against Cleveland State last Saturday, SBU improved to 12-1 in its non-conference slate since the start of the 2010-11 season in games following losses. The only two-game losing streak during that timeframe came against Virginia Tech (73-64) and Arkansas State (58-52) last year.

GoinG GoldFor the first time this season, the Bonnies unveiled their gold jerseys for a national TV audience against Siena on Dec. 4. SBU has three jerseys for the 2012-13 season, with the other two being its home whites and road browns.

franciscan cuPWith its 58-43 victory over Siena, St. Bonaventure claimed the Franciscan Cup for the third straight year. As schools with shared Franciscan heritage, in 2010 St. Bonaventure president Sr. Margaret Carney and Siena president Fr. Kevin Mullen agreed that the schools should play for a traveling trophy, and SBU has won the first three games.

douBle-diGit attacKBonaventure had a streak of four straight games with four double-figure scorers snapped against Siena on Dec. 4 as SBU finished just two Charlon Kloof points shy of making it five consecutive games. Despite that, the streak marked the first time in the Schmidt era (which began in 2007-08) that Bonaventure had four straight games with four double-figure scorers. The last time that occurred was from Dec. 16-30, 2006. Against Cleveland State last Saturday, SBU placed four in double-figuring scoring again, and on Wednesday a quintet of double-figure scorers marked the sixth occasion this year. In total, Bonaventure has had at least four double-figure scorers in six of its last eight games.

locKinG down on dThe 55 points allowed by Bonaventure in its season opener this year are the fewest in a season opener since a 68-53 win against New Mexico State on Nov. 17, 2000. Additionally, it’s also the fewest points allowed in home opener since a 58-53 victory over Rice on Dec. 3, 1996.

Plus / minus Proficiency Player: Demitrius Conger not only leads the Bonnies in four different statistical categories, but also in plus/minus proficiency. When he is on the floor, SBU is outscoring its opponents by a +93 margin, coming out to an average of +9.3 points per game. Senior Chris Johnson is second at +8.7, followed by Charlon Kloof (+8.2) and Matthew Wright (+6.9).

lineuP: The starting lineup of Kloof, Conger, Johnson, Wright and Marquise Simmons has produced the best ratio of any lineup head coach Mark Schmidt has put on the court this year, outscoring opponents by +32 when they are on the floor together. However, prorated out to a 40-minute game, the lineup of Conger, Johnson, Wright, Simmons and Eric Mosley has been the most efficient. Those five are +18 on the year in just 24 minutes of action, which comes out to a +29.9 average over 40 minutes, compared with +15.8 for the starting lineup.

Past years: Despite what many may assume, Andrew Nicholson did not lead St. Bonaventure in plus/minus last year. That honor goes to Conger, who averaged a +6.2 margin compared with Nicholson’s +5.9. That means that when Conger was on the floor, the Bonnies outscored their opponents more than when Nicholson was on the court (198-189). An additional surprising fact is that Jordan Gathers finished third on the team with a plus/minus ratio of +3.3. Two years ago during the 2010-11 season, Wright led the team with a +1.7 as a freshman. He was the only player on the roster who had a plus/minus ratio of more than +1.

sizzlin’ Home cooKin’Over the last 46 years – since 1967 when the Reilly Center hosted its first complete season – St. Bonaventure is a dominant 44-2 in home openers, 43-3 when including a win which was later forfeited during the 2002-03 season. SBU won its first 27 home openers in the RC until a 76-74 loss to Canisius on Dec. 3, 1994. Bona’s has won eight straight home openers, dating back to Nov. 23, 2004, when it suffered a 74-58 setback to Marist.

Even more impressive, in games which have served as both home and season openers, the Bonnies have NEVER lost in the Reilly Center, going an emphatic 33-0 in such contests.

Overall, the Bonnies are 78-15 all-time in season-opening games and 81-12 in home openers. Under head coach Mark Schmidt, St. Bonaventure is 4-2 in season openers and 6-0 in home openers.

‘GatHer’inG Game actionSophomore Jordan Gathers saw a drastic increase in both minutes played and subsequently production beginning midway through his freshman season in 2011-12. After playing just double-digit minutes in one of the first 14 games last year (74 minutes total) and scoring five points, the California native logged double-digit action in 16 of the final 17 contests (288 minutes total) and netted 49 points. That’s an average of 5.2 minutes per game and .3 points per game over the first 14 games of the season, and 16.9 minutes and 2.8 points encompassing the last 17 outings, including making starts in each of the last nine games of the campaign.

2011-12 in BriefSt. Bonaventure won its first Atlantic 10 Championship in 2012 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2000 where it narrowly lost to 3rd-seeded ACC Champion Florida State in the Second Round, 66-63.

wHat’s Gone & wHat’s BacKThe Bonnies will look to replace 2012 A-10 Player of the Year, Associated Press Honorable Mention All-American and First Round NBA Draft pick Andrew Nicholson, who led St. Bonaventure in scoring (18.5) and rebounding (8.4). SBU also lost Da’Quan Cook (7.6 points / 4.6 rebounds) to graduation. While Nicholson has moved on to the Orlando Magic, Cook has taken his game oversees where he signed a professional contract with BC Yambol in Bulgaria’s National Basketball League.

Bona returns 10 letterwinners and three starters, including 2012 A-10 All-Championship Team member Demitrius Conger, who averaged 12.1 points and 6.2 rebounds – both second on the team to Nicholson. Conger has been named to the 2012-13 Preseason All-Big 4 First Team. Bonaventure had 10 players average at least 10 minutes per game in 2011-12, tied for the most by any team in the A-10. Mark Schmidt was named the Sporting News Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year, and also claimed the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Men’s Division I Coach of the Year.

five-year resurGence By going 10-6 and finishing tied for 3rd in the A-10 in 2012, St. Bonaventure increased its conference win total and bettered its league finish for the fifth straight year since head coach Mark Schmidt took over the Bonnies in 2007-08. Additionally, St. Bonaventure is one of only seven Division I schools in the nation to have improved its RPI in each of the last five seasons.

Charl eston Southern, Detroit, Long Beach State, South Dakota St ate, Tennessee Te c h and Wichita State are the other six schools which have improved their RPI each of the last five years. Of the seven teams, SBU is the only one to hail from a conference that has been rated among the top-10 in the country in RPI in each of the last five years.

Notes For Players Related To Their Points Scored With Nicholson On The Bench

Additionally, despite Nicholson’s overwhelming presence in the low blocks, the Bonnies were still able to produce points in the paint when he was not in the game. As a team, the Bonnies scored 944 total points in the paint last year. With Nicholson on the floor, that number was 728. Without him on the floor, that number was 216. In looking at the amount of minutes Nicholson played compared with point-in-the-paint produc-tion, there was an extremely minimal dropoff when he was on the bench. With Nicholson on the floor, the Bonnies averaged .75 points in the paint per minute. With Nicholson on the bench, Bonaventure averaged .65 points in the paint per minute.

Perhaps even more stunning is that the Bonnies were actually more efficient rebounding the ball when Nicholson was on the bench. Nicholson finished second in the A-10 at 8.4 rebounds per game, and Bonaventure as a team led the conference and ranked 25th in the nation in rebound-ing margin at +5.5. With Nicholson on the floor, the Bonnies averaged .86 rebounds per minute. With Nicholson on the bench, SBU averaged .94 rebounds per minute.

St. Bonaventure’s slogan for the 2012-13 basketball season is “No Sleep ’Til Brooklyn.” The slogan, derived from the 1986 hit single by the Beastie Boys, was submitted by Patrick Didas, father of SBU freshman Cody Didas. It encapsulates the tireless effort needed to be put forth by the men’s and women’s basketball teams and their fans to reach the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship at the brand new, $1 billion Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The top 12 teams in the newly-formed 16-team A-10 on the men’s side advance to the A-10 Championship, which will be held entirely at the Barclays Center. The first three rounds of the women’s tournament will be held at Saint Joseph’s University before the championship game is played at Barclays. It will be the first women’s basketball game played in the state-of-the-art arena.

This marks the second year in a row that fans have had the opportunity to select the basketball slogan. Last season’s extremely popular “Defining Our Legacy” slogan came to fruition as the men’s team won its first A-10 Championship title and the women’s squad went undefeated in the A-10 and advanced to the Sweet 16.

uPcominG milestonesDemitrius Conger and Michael Davenport are both in position to reach 1,000 career points this season. Conger stands 67 points short of the milestone and will need to average a minimum of 3.5 points over SBU’s remaining 19 regular-season games to reach 1,000. Davenport is 225 points short and will need to average a minimum of 11.8 points per game over the season to hit 1,000. The last time Bonnies’ teammates reached 1,000 career points in the same season was in 2002-03, when junior Marques Green and senior Patricio Prato hit the milestone in back-to-back games against Duquesne (Jan. 25, 2003) and Cleveland State (Jan. 28, 2003), respectively.

Conger reached 500 career rebounds in a game earlier this year against Cleveland State and currently has 516, while Davenport is also eyeing 500 career rebounds. Davenport needs 138 (a minimum of 7.3 per game) to reach 500. Conger also needs 113 rebounds to crack the list of top-20 rebounders in program history. Last season Conger grabbed 199 boards.

Twenty-two St. Bonaventure players have recorded both 1,000 points and 500 rebounds during their careers. The last SBU player to reach both career milestones was 2012 graduate Andrew Nicholson.

summer aBroadRedshirt senior Michael Davenport and junior Matthew Wright spent nine days this past summer on European basketball trip through Belgium and France as part of the Global Sport’s Academy’s summer collegiate tour. The two were part of a team which played five games against Belgium squads. They also trained, competed and partook in cultural excursions in Belgium, and mid-way through the visit traveled to France and explored Paris.

MarK scHmidt radio sHowThe Mark Schmidt Radio Show, now its sixth year, will continue in early January at Randy’s Up The River in Allegany.

The 30-minute program, hosted by Gary Nease, puts St. Bonaventure men’s basketball fans directly in touch with Bona head coach Mark Schmidt. JoHnson Hot to startDuring the offseason, head coach Mark Schmidt called Chris Johnson the one player who would surprise opponents this year. So far, that’s exactly what the senior has done as he tied his career high for scoring in four of the first eight games, netting 19 points against Cornell, Canisius, Niagara and most recently Arkansas State. Through 10 games, he’s already scored 144 points – just 54 points shy of what he scored all of last year. Additionally, the Nova Scotia native has already tied, or broken, a career high in eight other categories (rebounds: 7; assists: 4, steals: 3; field goals made: 8; 3-point field goals made: 3; field goals attempted: 17; 3-point field goals attempted: 6; minutes played: 35).

However, after shooting 87.7 percent from the free-throw line last year to rank as the fifth-best single-season showing from the stripe in program history, he’s been uncharacteristically off so far this season. Despite being the team’s leading scorer, he has already missed more free throws through the first 10 games than he did all of last year combined. Johnson went 57-65 last season from the line, but is just 28-41 from the stripe so far this campaign.

’Quise sHaPinG into formMarquise Simmons has stepped up to help the Bonnies replace Andrew Nicholson, particularly of late. The Washington, D.C. native has recorded two double-doubles already this year – the first two of his career – and finished just one rebound shy of his third against The Citadel Wednesday. The first came on Nov. 24 against Niagara with a 12-point, 12-rebound performance against the Purple Eagles, with the dozen caroms representing a career high in that category. Simmons then netted 12 points

and grabbed 10 rebounds opposite Siena on Dec. 4. Both performances were part of SBU wins.

finally a victory in rocFor the first time in seven tries, the Bonnies claimed a victory in Rochester when they defeated Niagara on Nov. 24, 80-75. SBU had lost those six games – against NC State, Virginia Tech, St. John’s, West Virginia, Syracuse and Saint Louis – by a combined 22 points, an average of 3.6 points per loss. The win in Blue Cross Arena was the first since a 79-78 decision over Charlotte in November of 2000.

fresH PerformanceFreshman Dion Wright came off the bench against Cornell on Nov. 14 and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds in just 16 minutes of action. The California product’s seven boards are the most by a Bonaventure freshman in his first road game since Mike Gansey grabbed six against Cleveland State on Nov. 20, 2001. Furthermore, Wright became the first Bona freshman to lead the team in rebounding in his first road game since Vidal Massiah against Siena on Nov. 24, 1998, when he corralled eight caroms.

can’t lose witHout trailinGSt. Bonaventure had a streak of not trailing in a game for 78 minutes and 34 seconds snapped at Canisius on Nov. 17. A Billy Baron layup at the 18:50 mark of the first half gave Canisius a 2-0 lead and stopped the Bona streak. It started in the season opener against Bethune-Cookman as B-CU hit a 3-pointer on its opening possession, but after a Chris Johnson short jumper fell at the 17:36 mark to give the Bonnies a 4-3 lead, they never again trailed in the game. Then against Cornell on Nov. 14, the game was tied on four separate occasions, but Bonaventure did not trail at all against the Big Red.

next uPAfter an eight-day break – the longest of the season – the Bonnies return to action in their final home non-conference game of the year against Iona on Monday, Dec. 31, at 1 p.m.

The A-10 Championship banner is adorned on the same wall as the 1970 Final Four, 1977 NIT Championship and 2012 women’s 14-0 perfect A-10 regular season banners. The Second Round NCAA Tournament banner hangs from the Reilly Center rafters next to SBU’s 2002 NIT banner.

The Atlantic 10 made a big splash in the conference realignment craze in 2011-12, adding Butler and VCU to bring the league’s total number to 16. The moves led prominent media members, like Andy Katz of ESPN.com to declare the A-10 the “Winners of Conference Realignment.”

Both programs made the jump to the A-10 immediately, thereby fortifying the league’s position as the best basketball-driven conference in Division I. The only non big six conference to have 41 at-large NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament selections in the past 20 years, including three in 2012, the A-10 has boasted 62 postseason appearances in the last decade. For the fi fth year in a row, the Atlantic 10 Conference earned at least three bids and multiple at-large bids into the NCAA Tournament. Over the last six years, the Atlantic 10 has had 12 at-large selections - the seventh most among all other Division I conferences. A record eight A-10 institutions received invitations to the 2012 NCAA and NIT postseason tournaments, more than all but two conferences.

The Butler announcement came on May 2. An NCAA Final Four participant in two of the last three years, Butler is the seventh A-10 program with at least one appearance in the Final Four. The Bulldogs have been to the NCAA Tournament in fi ve of the past six years and have advanced past the fi rst weekend in three of those years. In all, Butler has 11 trips to the NCAA Tournament, and in fi ve of those the Bulldogs have advanced to the Sweet 16 or beyond. Eight of those 11 trips have come since 2000. The Bulldogs have seven straight 20-win seasons and have had a winning season in 18 of the last 19 years.

VCU went to the Final Four in 2011. Along with the recent addition of Butler University, it brings the total A-10 programs with at least one appearance in the Final Four to eight. VCU has made 11 total trips to the NCAA Tournament with four of those coming in the last six years. In seven of those 11 trips, the Rams have won at least one game, including their run to the 2011 Final Four. VCU has had eight postseason appearances since 2000.

In addition, the moves solidify the A-10 standing in prime media markets, strengthening the league’s hold on the Richmond market and adding the Indianapolis market. In all, the A-10 is in seven of the top 25 media markets, including four of the top 10. All 16 conference members are in the top 65 media markets in the country. The Atlantic 10 media footprint reaches over 23 million households.

The Atlantic 10 Confernece ranked seventh among all conference in the fi nal RPI in 2011-12. The league boasted eight Top 100 teams, third among all leagues behind only the Big East and the Big 10. The eight teams equaled the SEC and was more than the ACC, the Big 12, the PAC-12 and the Mountain West. In addition, the league had Temple, and St. Bonaventure receiving poll votes at the end of the year. Temple, which was ranked at 21 in the AP Poll and 24th in the Coaches’ Poll in the fi nal week of the regular season, fi nished in the recieving votes category. St. Bonaventure joined that category after its A-10 title run. Xavier was ranked as high as eighth and Saint Louis cracked the top 25 early in 2011-12. Saint Louis, Dayton and Saint Joseph’s all received votes early in the season as well. Newcomer VCU was also among those teams receiving votes in both polls last season.

The Atlantic 10 Conference announced in September of 2011 that it had formed a fi ve-year partnership with the Barclays Center to bring the A-10 men’s basketball tournament to Brooklyn and the new arena, beginning in 2013. The joint announcement was made at the Barclays Center Showroom in Manhattan, N.Y.

It will mark the fi rst time the A-10 Championship, which sends its champion to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, will be held in metropolitan New York City and the fi rst time it will be played in a state-of-the-art new facility.

“The opportunity to partner with the Barclays Center and bring the Atlantic 10 Basketball Championship to New York has unlimited possibilities. Our teams will compete in the newest, state-of-the-art facility within the Atlantic 10 footprint and the number-one media market in the country,” stated Commissioner Bernadette V. McGlade.

Scheduled to open in September, the Barclays Center will be a state-of-the-art sports and entertainment venue and the future home of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets. The Barclays Center will off er approximately 18,200 seats for basketball and will have one of the most intimate seating confi gurations ever designed into a modern multi-purpose arena. The last time the Atlantic 10 Tournament was in an NBA building was in 2002 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia.

“We are thrilled for the Barclays Center to play host to one of men’s basketball’s most prestigious conference tournaments,” Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark said. “We appreciate our alliance with the Atlantic 10 as we position the Barclays Center as a signifi cant national collegiate sports venue.”

The highest concentration of Atlantic 10 alumni of any region in the county live and work in the New York metro area. There are 2.5 million people total in Brooklyn and 8.1 million total people in New York, an opportunity for the A-10’s premier event to be played on the biggest stage in the nation.

“Brooklyn and the surrounding metropolitan New York area is home to over 100,000 Atlantic 10 alumni; this combined with the eight-million plus population will give the Atlantic 10 an opportunity to grow the Championship to new heights,” said McGlade.

The move also places the championship into the largest media market in the nation and home to CBS Sports, the Atlantic 10’s television partner for the men’s basketball championship. CBS Sports carries several regular season A-10 games and the league’s championship title game is aired on CBS as part of the network’s Selection Sunday package.

The Atlantic 10 is one of the most successful and well-respected leagues for basketball. The A-10 has averaged more than three teams per year in the top 50 of the RPI, equal to the Southeastern Conference. For the last four years, the Atlantic 10 earned three bids into the NCAA Tournament, one of only six Division I conferences to do so. Over the last six years, the league has had 10 at-large selections - the seventh most in Division I - behind only the big six BCS leagues.

Will have three years of playing eligibility beginning as a sophomore in the 2013-14 season. Not allowed to play in games during the •2012-13 season due to the NCAA’s “delayed enrollment” ruling. Since more than a year passed between Runs’ high school graduation date and his enrollment at St. Bonaventure, the NCAA mandates that he “sit the year in residency” before becoming eligible.Runs graduated from high school in the spring of 2010 and took a year off from schooling and basketball competition before enrolling at •Spain’s Canaries Basketball Academy (CBA) in the fall of 2011. The Netherlands native played in 22 games at CBA during the 2011-12 season. That competition – combined with the “delayed enrollment” – caused him to lose a year of eligibility.

Schmidt was recognized for his remarkable work in rebuilding the Bonnies by being named the •2012 Sporting News Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year. He was also named the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Men’s Division I Coach of the Year.

Schmidt was instrumental in the development of 2012 A-10 Player of the Year and AP Honorable •Mention All-American Andrew Nicholson, who ended his career ranked second in school history in scoring (2,103 points) and fourth in rebounds (887). Nicholson was selected by the Orlando Magic in the First Round of the 2012 NBA Draft with the 19th overall pick.

SBU’s 20 victories overall and 10 in the Atlantic 10 in 2011-12 were its most since the 1999-•2000 season, the last time a Bona team had earned an NCAA Tournament bid. The 10 victories also marked just the fourth time in history a Bonaventure team reached double-digit conference triumphs.

In May 2012, St. Bonaventure rewarded Schmidt with a five-year contract extension that runs •through the conclusion of the 2018-19 season.

Ahead of schedule with respect to his previous head coaching stint at Robert Morris. During his third •and fourth season at RMU, Schmidt posted back-to-back seasons with the same number of wins (14) before guiding the team to a record over .500 (15-14). He guided SBU to 15-win seasons in year two and three, before going over .500 in year four and eight games over in year five last season.

Has recruited and developed 10 players who were drafted into the NBA, including First-Round picks •James Posey (#18), David West (#18) and Nicholson.

Success at RMU: brought in Tony Lee, who in 2007-08 was the NEC Player of the Year and currently •owns that school’s career rebounding record (751); Jeremy Chappell was 2008-09 NEC POY and graduated as school’s all-time leader in 3-point field goals, double-figure scoring games, games played and starts.
