Eastern shot poorly in the first half shooting just 35% (12-of-34) from the field while Oregon Tech shot 50% (14-of-28) from the

field.

Midway through the second half EOU trailed 54-50 and wouldn’t get their first lead of the game until under eight minutes to play with a 3 pointer by Brown. In regulation the game would come down to the closing seconds as EOU trailed by 2 before Mumm scored a basket tying the game and sending the game into over-time.

In overtime Oregon Tech would lead by as much as 5 but with just 1:16 left in the period EOU would take a one point lead. A foul by EOU would send Johnson to the line where he would convert making just 1 of 2 to tie the game at 73. On the ensuing posses-sion, Brown would miss a 3 pointer but Zach Anderson would grab the rebound and score giving Eastern the 2 point lead with just 2 seconds left on the clock. Oregon Techs’ Clarke would try a last second heave from half court that hit the side of the rim giv-ing EOU the win.

EOU MEN LOSE FOR FIRST TIME...December 14, 2012Ashland, Ore. – The No. 12 Southern Oregon University Raiders upset the No. 2 Eastern Oregon Mountaineers, 72-68 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play.

Trent Roos led Eastern (14-1, 2-1 CCC) with 20 points shooting 7-of-11 from the field. Anthony Brown finished with 14 points and 8 rebounds while teammate Cody Thurmond had 15 points.Southern (10-3, 3-0 CCC) had three players finish in double fig-ures led by Kyle Tedder with 21 points. Eric Thompson and David Sturner would finish with 15 and 14 points respectively.

In the first half both teams battled back and forth as there was six lead changes and two ties. Offensively both teams struggled in the first half, Eastern would shoot just 36% (10-of-28) from the field while Southern shot 32% (11-of-24) from the field. The Mountaineers dominated the glass in the half out rebounding the Raiders 27-17.

The second half was as evenly contested as the first. There were 15 lead changes and 9 ties before the final minute of the game. With sixteen seconds left on the clock Southern would go up four. A quick basket by Roos cut SOU’s led to 2. EOU was then forced to foul sending Tedder to the line where he would convert 1-of-2, putting the Raiders up 70-67. With four seconds left, Southern would foul Roos sending him to the line where he would make the first and miss the second on purpose to give EOU a chance for a rebound and basket. The plan was executed well as EOU got their hand on the loose ball but couldn’t maintain possession. The Mountaineers then fouled Tedder sending him to the line once again, where he would make both free throws to end the game.

EOU finished the game shooting 42% (25-of-59) from the field and just 29% (6-of-21) from behind the arc. SOU shot 44% (28-of-64) from the field and 37% (7-of-19) from behind the 3-point line.
