Head teacher’s Comment

Dear Parent/Carers

It has been an extremely busy

half term again with lots going on

in and out of school.

On the 16th May I was invited to

Buckingham Palace to collect a

plaque to acknowledge the hard

work carried out by our students

to achieve their Duke of Edinburgh

awards. Several students in school

have now achieved Gold award and

others are working at Silver and

Bronze Level. I was so proud to

achieve the plaque and the

Countess of Wessex was delighted

to hear about our students

residential to Bibby Farm.

I was also extremely proud of all

the students in 8a who received

3rd prize in the RSPCA Art

competition. Ms. Pattison and I

had a lovely evening with

representatives of the form class,

as they collected a £25 prize.

Yet more achievements, this time

in upper school! Mrs. Cain and I

were delighted to see all our

students, who have attended Hugh

Baird this year, receive

certificates at the school link

celebration. All the students who

have attended college have

experienced a variety of vocational

courses including floristry, cooking,

mechanics and ICT.

Have a lovely half term.

Miss. Gelling

Ps. Thank you to everyone for

your support in my bid to run the

London marathon. I completed the

26.2 miles and in the process our

group raised over £13,000 for

Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Sixth Form Updates

It has been a busy time

for our sixth formers.

Student’s studying the

DofE Bronze, Silver and

Gold award attended a

trip to Bibby’s Farm in

Chorley for 3 or 4 days. They

have recently come back. It was

extremely successful with all

students working exceptionally well

and all of them successfully

completing a 6 mile expedition walk

successfully completing it. The

students stuyding Silver and Gold

awards were also self-sufficient in

putting up tents and cooking their

own food. They also overcame

some adverse weather conditions

on the second night to successfully

complete the camping element of

the course.

Well Done!

Our sixth form

students have

successfully

completed English

and ICT exams.

We are awaiting the results and

hopeful of some great scores.

Students are busy preparing for

their Maths exams.

Please note that the term ends for

sixth form students on Thursday

30th June. Students who wish to

stay can do so until 21st July.

They must inform the school of

this.

PE Update

The pupils at Bank View really

enjoy our trips out to the climbing

walls at awesome walls. Because of

this the P.E Department are

pleased to announce that a brand

new, custom made climbing wall is

to be installed in our gym. The

new climbing will be 3.5 meters

wide allowing 4 different climbing

routes to be set up to a height of

8 meters. The climbing routes will

be set to allow access to all.

There will also be a route that

traverses the base of the wall for

those pupils who may have

difficulty with heights. This

addition to the department will

provide new challenges to pupils

and allow them to develop their

self-confidence and team work

skills. The wall is set to be

installed during the summer

holidays.

Thank you A. Wrigg (Head of P.E)

Horticulture

Horticulture has

got off to a

great start. I

have now begun

gardening with groups of pupils on

Thursdays. We have been clearing

an allotment and have sown broad

beans, peas, cabbages and

potatoes. We are

producing a wild

flower bed for a local

community group and

also building a path

to the new sports

pitch for wheelchair

users. In the future we hope to

work with a retirement home

clearing their gardens and to

develop an allotment area on site

I have a small group of pupils

working with me but expect

numbers to increase once we start

work.

Any other interested pupils can

talk to me when I am in school on

a Wednesday or Thursday.

Thank you Mr John Pearce

Transition in the ARC

September is not far away so we

are starting to welcome our new

pupils with a short visit to the

School prior to their Induction Day

on the 6th July.

All the Year 6 pupils are very

excited when I go and visit them

in their primary schools and have

lots of questions, when they visit

us here at Bank View they love

the building and say that the staff

and pupils are all very friendly.

We occasionally have teachers visit

us too and they love to catch up

Page 4: MEADOW BANK SCHOOLcertificates at the school link celebration. All the students who have attended college have experienced a variety of vocational courses including floristry, cooking,

with previous pupils and see how

they have grown!

Transition is a vital part of making

the move from primary to

secondary and we do our best to

ease the move for both pupils and

parents, we have a new Transition

Book and would like to thank

Christopher Dunbabin in 6th form,

for his fantastic map of the school

which will definitely help the new

pupils get around.

Diversity week was a huge success.

The pupils had a brilliant time

learning lots of new things and

visiting many new places. Pupils

had the opportunity to visit the

Mosque, The Royal School for the

Blind and Liverpool Cathedral.

Activities in school included blind

football, wheelchair basketball,

learning braille, Indian dance and

learning about British values.

We also celebrated the queens

90th birthday with a street party

in school with afternoon tea. It

was a great week and all the pupils

and staff had lots of fun.

Reward Trips The pupils enjoyed a reward trip

this half term to Chester Zoo.

The trip is for pupils who display

consistent excellent behaviour and

attitude in school. The pupils had

lots of fun in the zoo and were a

credit to the school.

Friday 18th March was our sport

relief and Muscular Dystrophy UK

fundraising day. All the pupils and

staff were challenged to complete

a sport relief mile or a mile for

muscles. I am happy to say all the

pupils ran, walked or jogged a

mile. Some pupils completed up to

3 miles which is fantastic.

All the pupils and staff had lots of

fun.

The total amount raised was

£544.00. This amount was split

between both the Sports Relief

and Muscular Dystrophy UK

charities.

Bank View would like to thank

everyone for their continuing

support and raising so much money

for these worthy charities.

Attendance & Punctuality Attendance and punctuality are

essential for children to make

progress. As a school we

encourage children to be in school

as often as they can. I have

issued all pupils with a challenge to

achieve 100% attendance each

term and if they do this they will

receive a reward. The government

have now issued new guide lines

that means that pupils who have

90% attendance or less are

classed as ‘persistent absentees’

and further action will be taken by

the school with the support of the

education welfare officer.

Thank you
