Our Partners How we pick them: Our partners must demonstrate a dedication to girls’ education through proven success in attendance rates and programming for girls. They must also show sustainability through financial documentation and they must work closely with their local communities. Finally, we look for partners who are open to frequent and in- depth communication, allowing us to form close relationships with them and the girls we sponsor. We’re growing rapidly & aim to have 50 chapters by end of 2012! National Tie-Dye Cupcake Bake-Off From November 1-8, thousands of high school and college students organize tie-dye cupcake bake sales across the U.S., to jointly advocate for universal education and fundraise for girls’ sponsorships. 60 teams raised $22,400+! Lindsay Brown, a NCAA-gold winning soccer star from the University of Notre Dame, held the first tie-dye cupcake bake sale in 2010! Her success inspired the nationwide campaign. She visited Nepal later that summer to teach the girls she sponsored. She continues to raise money selling cupcakes, attended Google Zeitgeist and Clinton Global Initiative U, and was featured in a NBC commercial. In October 2011, she quit the soccer team to pursue her new dream: Sponsoring girls worldwide. “She’s the First was the involvement with the largest impact...My aspirations changed as I began researching She’s the First. I had been living within the four walls of my immediate surroundings. I was only aware and concerned about what was happening with me, my family, and close friends. I knew we were all healthy and seizing every opportunity at our disposal. I discovered that this was not the case for many children around the world...[I had wanted to be a fashion publicist, but] now I am pursuing a double major of public relations and political science.” Stephanie Guzman City College of New York, Class of 2014 After-School Program: In 2012, STF is launching a social- media driven after-school program in NYC high schools. Girls who will be first-generation college students learn how to shape their online identities into platforms for their passions, causes, and career opportunities. They’re challenged to produce a fundraiser to sponsor a girl together.
