Background
• Human Service agencies and caregiver concerns:– Knowledge surrounding safe administration and
side effects of psychotropic meds– Getting timely and reliable information– Challenges around consent approval process on
lack of knowledge surrounding psychotropic medication
– Lack of knowledge around off label usage of psychotropic medication
Mental Health Nurse Consultant
• Provide support with mental health info and psychotropic medication for Mental Wellness Screening
• Clarifying off label use of psychotropic medication
Mental Health Nurse Consultant• Review and explain to caseworkers rationale, dosing, and watching for
potential interactions between multiple medications– Lexicomp database– CADDRA guidelines– pharmacy drug databases ie. Vigilant Rx– Clarifying with attending psychiatrist or prescribing doctor whenever possible
• Directing caseworkers and caregivers to information resources to help build their capacity – Kelty BC Mental Health

• Assisting with linkages to community or medical resources for families and agencies– Providing contact information of pediatricians in vicinity of
family– Providing caseworkers with contact info for medical
specialists when requesting internal referrals from a doctor • Medication reviews as requested by CFS– Through Mental Wellness Screening programs– To help managers and caseworkers with consent approvals
of psychotropic medication
Types of Deliverables
Consultee will receive one of the following based on discretion of consultant or as requested:• Email summary (usually for short post conference note
or brief service)• Medication review in context medical, mental health,
IPP, psyche ed reports as requested by caseworker• Letter of information PDF (for complex MWS or
external consult cases involving medications, community resources)
