International News

From the desk of Prof. Sunila Khandelwal, Chairman International Advocacy Committee Dear Friends, The pandemic outbreak the world is facing today reminds us how important medicine, research and exchange are for humanity. Unity, precision, zeal & professionalism are the winning tools against COVID-19. Today’s physical distancing takes us apart but We have our friends across the globe with whom we worked together nurtured relationships despite our different backgrounds and personalities, we are a family. I think over the next few months ongoing supportive communication and sharing will be part of what helps us all get through this difficult time. When this terrible monster will have been defeated and we will be able to meet again I am sure it will be with a renewed spirt and commitment to the Society’s objective. Our collective efforts, support and resolve we shall triumph through adversity and eventually emerge stronger and wiser. Let us be more sensitive to the elderly population as they are at a higher risk of COVID-19 infection due to their decreased immunity and body reserves, as well as multiple associated comorbidities like diabetes, hypertension, Chronic kidney diseases and respiratory problems Also, course of disease tends to be more severe in case of elderlies, resulting in higher mortality. However, physical distancing during this public health crisis is essential in preventing the spread of the virus, but it can come at a high cost to seniors' mental health and well-being, resulting in loneliness, anxiety, depression and cognitive problems. Research has demonstrated that social connectedness and engagement with other people are important to promote successful aging; but that's being directly challenged by physical distancing policies. It is also important to advise them against self-medicating and going to hospital for routine check-ups or follow-ups. As far as possible, please provide tele-consultation. After this crisis passes, I predict that we'll see a permanent shift in care models that incorporate telemedicine to a greater extent. With deep sense of gratitude, I also take opportunity put a farewell note for our dear Arshia with a heavy heart, as she is leaving the role of CEO of this esteemed organisation, which she has been nurturing since last 10 years. She will be missed clearly but her innovative steps in streamlining the work culture with positive impact will be remembered always. Her dedicated & diligent efforts are deeply felt by all of us. Personally, till date in all my positions/ roles I have enjoyed working for lMS both nationally & internationally. Her smiling, calm lovely presence with positive attitude will always be a part of this organisation. IMS Family wishes her best for future endeavours &request her to be in touch. I look forward to the day we can all be together again and greet each other in the conventional manner. Till then, Keep healthy and strong!

My warmest wishes to you all with Cyber hugs,

Sunila Announcements: 1. On Behalf Of Board International Menopause Society& organizing team, I am forwarding the announcement that following the extraordinary circumstances related to the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak globally, the 17th World Congress on the Menopause is postponed. The Congress is now to be held at the same venue, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, from Thursday 4th February through to Sunday 7th

Page 3: Message from President 2020-21 · worked together nurtured relationships despite our different backgrounds and personalities, we are a family. I think over the next few months ongoing

February 2021. (Pre-congress course on Wednesday 3rd February 2021) Of note, the entire program is transposed to the new dates such that the congress will be the same as that planned to have been held in Melbourne from 30 April to 3 May 2020.I hope that you will be able to maintain the commitments with the IMS Congress, and have your presentations in the new above- mentioned dates. All travel bursaries and awards will be as awarded for the 2020 dates. Abstracts may be updated and new abstracts submitted. The program has been updated on the Congress website with the new dates: https://www.imsmelbourne2020.com/scientific-program/ . The Congress website also contains a FAQ page that provides further information about the rescheduling: https://www.imsmelbourne2020.com/postponement-faq/. I hope in any case you’ll be able to rebook the ticket without problems. If you need any official paper from the Congress stating the postponement due to Coronavirus to facilitate the rebooking or cancellation please contact organizers. Most of the companies are waiving the rebooking and cancellation fees due to the mobility restrictions related to Covid-19, should your flight company make problems it would be good to wait a bit as the situation evolves and more companies will allow to rebook or cancel free of charge. The IMS General Assembly will now be held on 6th February 2021. Until that time, the present IMS Board and Executive, and CAMS Officers will continue in their roles until the official handover occurs. The incoming IMS Board and Executive, and the newly-elected CAMS Officers will take up their appointments in Melbourne, February 2021. In light of the rescheduling of The General Assembly, the timetable for CAMS Officer elections has been revised. The new timescales are as follows: 20th April - Ballot sent out and voting opens; 18th May - CAMS voting closes. Newly elected CAMS Officers will be announced and take up their positions at The General Assembly.

We make the difference!

Farewell

Indian Menopause

Society!

Dear All,

I take this opportunity to thank you from the depth of my heart for your trust, love and

affection in the past decade. It went a long way in bringing about important changes in

the Society for good.

I wish to share that I have handed over the Indian Menopause Society as of 31st March

2020.

I have really enjoyed being with this one big Family called Indian Menopause Society so

true to its word ……….. and I sincerely appreciate the intellectual interactions &

affection: having had the opportunity to work with each of you. So much of progress and

camaraderie.... this journey together ----- the euphoria is mine to cherish.

Change is the way of life and so we move on….. though I will miss you all, I am looking

forward to starting this new phase of my life.

I intend to give attention to myself & my company – Cocoon. We have handed over

nine Societies and now would be restricting ourselves to only Conference Management!

I would appreciate your continued advice to encourage us in our future endeavours. I

can be reached at 9246105361, [email protected].

With warm regards, I remain,

Arshia
