METHOD STATEMENT FOR WULA
GLENVISTA SPORT FIELDS AND ATTENUATION POND – DISCRIPTION OF WORKS FOR WULA
1. Proposed New Sport Fields and Attenuation Pond:
The proposed sport fields will be constructed for the expansion of the school facilities along the Glenvista
Spruit. The components of the activities include for:
Protection measure and silt fence;
Clear and grub;
Preparation of embankment footprint;
Construct earth fill embankment for attenuation pond
Precast Concrete Seating Structure; and
Rehabilitation and reinstatement to original state.
The following sporting facilities will be constructed as part of the expansion of the school facilities:
o ¼ Hockey Field - Size: 2 016 m²
o Hockey Field / Attenuation Pond - Size: 4 624 m²
o Tennis and Netball Courts - Size: 1 175 m²
2. Protection Measure and Silt Fence
As part of the mitigation measures to ensure no siltation of infill material reaches the spruit, silt fences will be
installed during the construction phase. Geotextile fabric will be used, where approximately 300mm of the
geotextile fabric will be placed into the ground and 600mm of geotextile fabric will be placed above the ground
level. This will be placed within the buffer zone above the 1:100 year flood line, which will also function as a
no-go area fenced off during the construction activities. After the completion of the expansion of the sport
facilities, the silt fences will be removed, and any additional silt will be removed and disposed of at a
registered landfill site in the surrounding area.
The following diagram represent the type and installation of silt fences to be installed during the construction
phase.

METHOD STATEMENT FOR WULA

The proposed silt fences to be installed during the construction phase to protect the downstream watercourse
from siltation and erosion and possible habitat characteristic changes.
3. Platforms and Berm Construction
Three platforms are proposed:
The tennis and netball courts north of the existing athletic field;
The quarter hockey field north of the existing hockey field; and
The hockey field east of the existing hockey field. This hockey field will be utilise as an attenuation
pond. As part of the platforming works, the sport fields will be lowered to tie-in at the natural ground
level on the far north east corner of each field.

METHOD STATEMENT FOR WULA
The berm for the attenuation pond is located on the north and eastern sides of the hockey field, the
maximum height of the berm is 1,1m high, top width of the berm is 1,0m wide with 1:2 side slops.
These layers will be compacted to achieve the platform and berm design levels.
Approximate volume of cut material is 18 300 m³ of which 3 400 m³ of fill will be utilise in the cut to fill exercise.
The spoil material from the cut will be removed and disposed of at a registered landfill site in the surrounding
area. The platform and berm will be reinstated with instant lawn to allow for vegetation coverage.
The platforms will be constructed with a single longitudinal slope not exceeding 1.5% falling towards the
spruit.
4. Precast Concrete Seating Structure
The cut embankments have a slope of 1:2, should seating be required at a later stage along the cut
embankment the precast concrete seating blocks can be implemented along the southern side of the sport
fields cut embankment. The precast concrete seating structure for the earth cut embankment for the sport
fields will consist of concrete seating blocks installed at a 1:2 or 26.56 degree angle. The concrete seating
blocks will be placed on top of stable ground embankment.
The units are dry-stacked on the prepared screed, working from the base up.

METHOD STATEMENT FOR WULA
The proposed or future precast concrete seating blocks will be located above the 1:100 year flood line and
wetland boundary zone, not to interfere with flow of the spruit.
The precast concrete seating blocks and cut embankment of the platforms for the sport fields will be
constructed during the dry season, there will be no need to deviate or interfere with the spruit’s water flow to
complete the construction process.
5. Clear and Grub
An area approximately 1.37 ha will be cleared and grubbed, topsoil stripped, stockpile and maintained for
later use.
6. Embankment Protection
Side Slopes to be constructed:
At 1:2 side slopes,
Topsoil with material from site stockpile and / or commercial sources,
Hydroseeded to environmental consultant specifications,
Additional erosion control will also be implemented as required in the form of non-degradable erosion
protection on the side slopes.
7. Rehabilitation and Reinstatement
After completion of construction as specified above, the site will be reinstated in accordance with the EMP.
All disturbed areas will be rehabilitated and construction material removed from site. Embankments will be
topsoiled from stockpile and/or commercial sources, hydroseeded to environmental consultants’
specifications and protected by non-degradable erosion protection on side slopes.
8. Positioning of new sport fields
The platforms for the sport fields to be constructed will be located at the following coordinates:
Tennis and Netball Courts:
Y – Coordinate = - 92 920.851 GPS 26°17'22.46"S
X – Coordinate = - 2 909 249.455 Or 28° 4'10.59"E
¼ Hockey Field:

9. Conceptual layout of sport fields
The sporting facilities to be constructed as part of the expansion of the school facilities along the Glenvista
Spruit, refer to plan C2888-260-1 for conceptual layout.
We trust the above will be favourable considered.
Yours faithfully
