Mexican Independence Day ProjectChoose Either Top or

Who were the key revolutionaries? Give a brief 1 paragraph summary of at least three Mexican revolutionariesWhat were the key reasons for wanting independence from Spain?
How were the wars for independence similar? Give at least 3 reasons.
How were the wars different? Create a chart of similarities and another chart for differences
Once each country won its independence, they created a flag and a national day of independence. Show each flag and discuss the symbolism with each flag’s colors and symbols.
Father Hidalgo “took a stand” because he hated the Spaniards’ treatment of the native Indians and those of mixed heritage. Compare Father Hidalgo to Martin Luther King, Jr.
What do you feel strongly enough to take a stand?
Give a biography of Father Hidalgo. Why was he so upset with Spain?How did he get other Indians and mixed heritage people to support him?
Give a brief biography of MLK. How did he get others to support his cause?
Read a newspaper or magazine and find at least three examples of a country or person “taking a stand” about something they strongly believe. The stand could be about any issues, i.e. war, pollution, racism, a political issue.
Relate a personal example of when you “took a stand.” What made you speak out? Why? How did others react? Would you do it again? Perhaps you saw someone throwing litter or saying something unkind. How did you react?

teacher’s review● By September 25, complete the second
“box” for teacher’s review● By September 30, finished project due.
This project is a test grade. Please follow the rubric to receive full credit for each activity. Neatness counts so please be sure to type information whenever possible.

Box 2: 10 points for each section answered fully. The information provided should be 1 - 2 typed pages

If choosing “top,” box 3 should have two charts, one of similarities and one of differences. Each chart worth 8 points.

Picture of flags and at least three paragraphs about the symbolism of the colors and objects on the flag. 10 pts.
Creativity - 10 points
Depth of research - 10 points
Neatness - 4 points

Same as above Bottom box 3, find 3 articles when someone advocated for a cause. Glue articles on paper. Orally share what you learned. Summarize your viewpoints on these causes.
