Fuel consumption is affected by three areas: mechanical losses, aero-

dynamic drag and rolling resistance. By partnering with Michelin®,

Prevost provides customers a choice of fuel efficient tire options.

Michelin® produces energy saving tires that add to an operator’s

bottom line through fuel efficiency by reducing rolling resistance,

a key contributor to fuel consumption. The Michelin® XZA2®

Energy, XZA® and the X One® XDN® 2 can be used in combination

to achieve fuel efficiency for an estimated annual savings of

$905.76 - $1,710.37. Fuel efficiency, combined with Michelin’s®

renowned handling & responsiveness and outstanding traction &

lateral control, present a winning option!

Michelin’s longest-wearing, best traction X One® drive tire for

highway and regional operations is engineered to replace duals and

provides a weight savings of approximately 371 lb. when compared

to the MICHELIN® XDN® 2 tire. It is designed with an extra wide tread

width for excellent stability and long wearlife with an open shoulder

design that helps provide exceptional traction on dry, wet and snow

covered surfaces.

Prevost and Michelin® help operators increase their bottom line,

offering long tire life, keeping passengers safe and reducing the

carbon footprint of motorcoaches – what more could you ask for?

PRIME Innovative Energy ManagementPrevost’s newest innovation is PRIME (Power Recovery by Intelligent Management of Energy), an energy management systemthat reduces fuel consumption by using the engine down time (braking, deceleration and other negative torque situations) to charge the batteries and compress air.

Electronic Stability Program (ESP)The Prevost Electronic Stability Program helps provide significantly

improved stability in adverse conditions to avoid potentially dangerous

over/under steer and roll over situations.

Allison Transmission

Allison transmissions help coach operators put their

vehicles and business on schedule for superior operating

economies, improved vehicle performance and better

passenger comfort.

PRIME focuses on eliminating parasitic loads on the engine by intelligent management of the alternators and air compressor dutycycle. Instead of constantly charging, the alternator uses engine negative torque (braking, deceleration) to generate "free" electricity.

Based on the state of charge of the batteries, the system will determineif the batteries need immediate charging or if it can wait until the nextzero load on the engine to trigger battery charging - using free energy. The driver is informed of the state of charge of the batteries for both12V and 24V battery banks. This intelligent management of the energyallows PRIME to maximize battery life and fuel economy.

PRIME uses absorbed glass mat (AGM) batteries which have a longerlifecycle (about four times compared to traditional batteries) and require less maintenance. An AGM battery has the electrolyte absorbedin a fiberglass mat separator. AGM batteries are sealed and require nomaintenance for their complete lifetime - no acid spills and no need toadd water. On top of the savings when comparing the life cycle of theAGM batteries to traditional batteries, the cost of replacing standardlead-acid batteries more often is more over the life of a coach.

PRIME has an estimated fuel savings of 2% depending on the dutycycle. Results have been validated in real driving conditions and withvarious duty cycles. Some test vehicles showed even greater fuel savings. The maximum fuel economy will be obtained when a mix ofhilly and flat road sections allows the batteries to be charged only whenthe vehicle is in free wheel - the batteries are charged with free energyand no fuel consumption is dedicated to charging the batteries.

Prevost AWARE Electronic Stability Program

PRIME

The systems sends out a radar signal up to 500 feet in front of the vehicle, tracking up to 32 objects in its range in order to keep followingdistances safe and the driver alerted to dangerous situations. With cruise control on and speed set, Prevost AWARE automaticallyadjusts the cruise speed of the coach to maintain a safe following distance, without required driver intervention while keeping cruise control set; the system returns the vehicle to the original cruise speedwhen it is safe to do so.

If cruise control is not set, the following distance alert and impact alertfunctions remains active. It warns the driver if the distance to the vehicle ahead is too close, or the closing rate is too rapid, and it willheighten the warnings if an impact is imminent. These warnings givethe driver time to take appropriate action.

The stationary object alert provides drivers with an additional warningabout metallic objects such as stopped vehicles or other equipmentblocking their lane of travel day or night, rain or shine, fog or snow.Warnings are integrated into the dash and audible in the driver's area, keeping drivers focused on the road and on the job at hand.

Prevost AWARE gives a quick return on your safety investment. The system helps in two significant ways. First, by helping driversmaintain a good following distance and by keeping them more alert, your fleet may record fewer accidents, and less accident-related costs.Second, the system can help your drivers stay in cruise control longer, which can result in significant fuel savings.

Loss of control situations happen in the blink of an eye and the costsare tremendous. Exclusive to Prevost, the Prevost ESP is the firstsystem with rollover and under/over-steer protection and providesbetter vehicle control by comparing the driver's intentions with actualvehicle movement. The ESP operates with Anti-Locking Brake Systemto enhance driver reactions to the unexpected and keep the vehiclealigned and in control even with sudden movements or hazardousroad conditions.

The ESP system electronically compares performance models to actual vehicle movement, monitoring wheel speed, steering angle, lateral acceleration and yaw to help avoid loss of control androllover by selectively applying brakes at individual wheel ends instantaneously to help keep the vehicle in control.

This safety feature helps the driver reduce speed, keep the vehicle inproper alignment and reduce speed, and reduce the tendency for thecoach to slide. It also provides improved stability - a safety advantagein high friction conditions involving curves, sudden lane changes, andevasive or obstacle avoidance maneuvers. The ESP increases protection against coach rollovers and provides better control of the coach.

Linked with Prevost Liaison, incidents can be reviewed to better manage and train drivers, reduce insurance costs and help in crisismanagement. Incident reduction secures coach investment, protectsyour assets and reputation and keeps your vehicle on the road whereit belongs.

When you factor in all life cycle costs — vehicle purchase price, insurance, fuel, tires, preventive maintenance, component repair, driverwages, taxes, license, permits and retail resale value — along with the increased productivity, an Allison Automatic-equipped vehicle costs less per mile to operate than a comparable competitivelyequipped vehicle.

The transmission, as a major driveline component, is an important factor in driveline efficiency. Fully automatic Allison transmissions, along with a vehicle spec appropriate for the particular duty cycle, can provide superior fuel efficiency and optimum fuel economy.

On a vehicle with an automated manual transmission, the power interrupts that occur during shift changes result in lower average wheelhorsepower. With an Allison automatic, there is no power interruptduring shift changes so Allison Automatic's can make full use of theengine's horsepower. No power interrupts also contribute to a smoother ride.

Prevost AWARE Adaptive Cruise BrakingPrevost AWARE Adaptive Cruise Braking is a dynamic safety advancement providing drivers warnings of dangerous situationsand, when necessary, the system automatically intervenes with dynamic inputs to help the driver avoid collisions.
