WHERE DID OUR STOP HUNGER NOW MEALS GO? They were
packed and sent out on a container June 4th with a total of 285,120 meals as well as
GIK items to our country partner: Salesian Missions. Salesian Missions is in Haiti
and provide a 3 step program in Cite Soleil, Haiti to socially and economically reha-
bilitate street children. This is one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Haiti,
and armed gangs are in control of most of the area behind the Salesian complex.

DIANTHA CIRCLE…is not meeting during the summer. We will resume our regular schedule starting Tuesday, September 15th at 9:30 a.m. at the church.
WESLEY CIRCLE…next meeting on Tuesday, September 22nd at 7 p.m. in Room 116 at the church.
UMW BOOK CLUB...next meeting will be Monday, July 20th at 1 p.m. to discuss the book: What Is So Blessed About Being Poor. The next meeting will be Monday, Aug. 17th at 1 p.m. and the book will be 100 Simple Things You Can Do to Prevent Alzheimer’s and Age Related Memory Loss.
EXECUTIVE BOARD...will meet Sunday, August 9th at 12noon.
UMW would like to thank all who contributed to our UMCOR Kits for Conference this year. We had a total of 307 kits. We will be stating the collection of items for the school kits this summer as this is the perfect time to stock up on the needed school supplies. Located on the back page of this newsletter, is a list of supplies needed for the kits.

Please pray for victims of violence and natural disasters. God can see what is in people’s hearts. And he knows what is in the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit speaks to God for his people in the way that God wants. (Romans 8:27)
Dear Friends,
As we approach the 4th of July, I am amazed that so many people discount
the role God has played in the development of our way of life. It was Christianity
that first gave value and rights to all members of the Christian community, and so to
the world. Remember the words of our communion service, “that Christ died for
the sins of the whole world.” it would be Paul who stressed that in Christ there
were no rich or poor, male or female, no free or slave. This is one of the reasons
Christianity was so attractive to so many different classes of people. It would take
centuries for this idea to take hold, in fact we are still struggling with what this
means, but it was God’s love that brought us to this point. In our churches we are
still working on this, as we are more willing to welcome someone who looks and
speaks as we do.
The leaders of this movement of the value and worth of each individual have
often been people of God. Paul speaks of how all are the same in Christ.
Martin Luther calls us to the priesthood of all believers. John Wesley, who would
send women to lead his groups in England and America, along with the others were
all preachers and church leaders. Martin Luther King, in our time, was a pastor
before he began working in civil rights. God has been the guide in this moment
through the ages. This has not been easy as leaders and members of God’s own
church have worked against Him, trying to hold back God’s love for all people.
Some Christian denominations even to this day refuse to see women as leaders, are
very selective as to who can join. In Paul’s day, without women and others as lead-
ers as leaders and sponsors, the Christian movement would have taken many more
years to develop and grow. We seldom mention that fact, as it makes us reflect on
our own faith and practices.
I write this to remind Christians and others, that human value and rights have
always been a part of the faith God would have us live. The 4th of July, may be our
national holiday, but it is the result of the faith that Jesus taught and leadership pro-
vided by the Holy Spirit, over many centuries. We as a church and individuals have
not been perfect, and have made many mistakes, but it is God’s love and caring for
each individual, that has helped to guide our country and the world to this moment.
Many would push Jesus Christ out of the picture, thinking all that we strive for, is of
human thought and invention, never giving any credit to God. While this is very
frustrating to modern Christians to see God brushed aside, remember God is not
finished with us or His world yet, and what we will be has not yet been revealed.
Our country as wonderful as it is, may only be a stepping stone to what God wants
for all His children.

SPY SUNDAYS continue from June. This is in con-
junction with our SPY Youth Mission trip this
summer. All youth who are going on this mission
trip are strongly encouraged to attend each session during our Sunday school hour
(9:45 a.m.). This continues through July 19th. *******
MANIAC MONDAYS...will start July 6th where students will participate in
various events that include: MotorWorld (7/6) - Cost is $40.00
Time: 10 a.m.—4 p.m. (lunch is included)
Cloud9 (8/10) - Cost is $25.00
Time: 12noon—4 p.m. (lunch is included)
St. Andrew’s Style (7/20 & 8/24)
Time: 1 p.m.—4 p.m. (no lunch served)

THANKFUL THURSDAYS...our opportunity to give back to the community
with a focus on the homeless ministry. We will build, collect and serve the less
fortunate in Hampton Roads. Below is the schedule for this event.

YOUTH /CHILDREN INFORMATION
ST. ANDREW’S VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
July 13—17th from 9 a.m.—12noon Sign-ups are now going on. Youth and Adult volunteers
needed. Please fill out a registration form at the VBS
table located in the Welcome Center. We will have
several days for prep work. They are as follows:
June 24th—6 –8 p.m.; July 1st—6 p.m.; July 8th—6 p.m.
Our VBS will be followed by BYOL from 12:15—1:30
(7/13—7/16) (youth volunteers only) Buy Your Own Lunch is an opportunity to
decompress after VBS each day while eating together at various fast food establish-
ments. On Friday, 7/17 @ 12noon, there will be a potluck lunch for EVERYONE
involved with VBS.
ALL VBS VOLUNTEERS are required to come to training on Sunday, June 28th
from 12noon—2 p.m. or Monday, the 29th from 7—9 p.m. both in the Youth Room
upstairs.

BLESSING BAGS Our Blessing Bags are a big hit! Several members have
asked what sort of items we needed to make them.
Below is a list of the items that go into Blessing Bags. If
you would like to donate any of them, please leave them
in the Blessing Bag box in Room 102.
Chap stick small tissues toothbrush small toothpaste
Comb small soap small shampoo protein bar
Crackers apple sauce gum small mouthwash
Wet wipes washcloth razor
We hope to have more Blessing Bags soon! Watch for them.
SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR UMCOR SCHOOL KITS
1 pair blunt scissors; round tip only; no plastic scissors
3 units of paper; 8.5 x 11 spiral notebooks/top bound; 150 sheets loose-leave; or
combinations of; no composition books
1 hand-held pencil sharpener—must be at least 1” long
1—30 centimeter ruler; hard or flexible
6 unsharpened pencils—no advertisements; no symbols except cartoon
characters
1—2” eraser; no advertisements; no symbols except cartoon characters
1—24 count box of crayons
CHILDREN’S MINISTRY SERVICE PROJECT...starting in
July have your child bring in gently used jeans, shirts, blankets, or
fresh travel toiletries for our Blessing Bags and Blankets for the
Homeless. Place in marked bins in Room 102.
