Around the world, Tim (Total imaging matrix

technology) has become the new standard in MRI.

With hundreds and hundreds of installations,

Tim is proving it every day, with unprecedented

    flexibility, accuracy and speed.

Let Tim prove it to you.

    Tim BenefitsFlexibility, Accuracy, Speed

    Flexibility:

    Select exams, not coils.

Flexibility to build your coil and cover

the anatomy or pathology of interest.Up to 76 (1.5T) or 102 (3T) coil elements

can be seamlessly integrated into one

    examination. By combining two Matrix

coils side-by-side, obese patients can be

scanned with surface coil image quality.

    The advantage:

Improved workflow and increased pro-ductivity: set-up your patient once and

no need for coil or patient repositioning.

Reduces the need to buy special coils.

Exam flexibility has given us a chance

to get the patients in and out faster.

Ive actually converted to 30-minute slots

    versus the old 45-minute slots.

    St. Francis Hospital Hartford, CT

    Accuracy:

    Local and total.

Accuracy from local to total, from

single-organ up to whole-bodyimaging. Detect small pathologies

    with high sensitivity for example

in the brain and extend your

    anatomical coverage when needed

for example to the whole spine

in the case of multiple sclerosis.

    Without patient or coil repositioning.

    The advantage:

Answer all clinical questions with Tim;from a local pathology such as orbital

imaging up to the investigation of

    multiple sclerosis or cancer metastasis

    throughout the body.

    Speed:

    Parallel in all directions.

    Maximum speed with Parallel Imaging

or iPAT (integrated Parallel AcquisitionTechniques) in all body regions. This

is enabled by the high number of coil

elements and up to 32 independent

RF channels today: the more elements

and channels, the faster the acquisition.

And Tim is so flexible that it enables

Parallel Imaging in all directions includingdouble oblique slices.

We see a lot of patients with multiple

sclerosis or with other diseases that

affect the brain and spine. With this new

technology, we can scan the patient from

    head to toe very quickly.

    National Neurological Institute Milan, Italy

    The advantage:

Maximal speed with iPATin all body regions inclu-

    ding the spine (Siemens

    unique) and therefore

    highest throughput.

    Future security with up to

    32 independent RF chan-

What Tim can do for Patients,Clinicians and Administrators.

    Clinical perspective

Confidence in diagnosis. See the smallest details with Tim. Tims Matrix coils

provide up to 100% more Signal-to-Noise.

Ultra-fast acquisitions. Parallel Imaging is standard and usable in all body

regions. It enables the fastest scanning, for MR Angiography and more.

Diagnose a disease, not a body region. Tims flexible coil combination

enables looking at all body parts that need to be examined. Without patient or

    coil repositioning.

Tim for every clinical need. Ready from the start with the Tim Application

Suite: comprehensive set of tools and protocols to cover all clinical needs,

including cardiac. Standard with all Tim systems.

Applications from head to toe. Tim enables whole-body examinations without

patient or coil repositioning for metastatic and other systemic diseases suchas atherosclerosis.

Future security with Tim. Up to 32 independent RF channels deliverable today

and Matrix coils that are automatically scalable if you upgrade to a higher Tim

level later. No coil upgrades necessary after an RF channel upgrade.

Less costs, approx. 200,000 $ savings for new coils.

    Patient perspective

Faster examinations with Parallel Imaging. Less time in the MR scanner

but maximum confidence in the diagnosis.

Ultra-light weight Matrix coils, only 950 g (2 lbs) for the Body Matrix coil.

Feet-first positioning enables easy examinations for claustrophobic and

    What is Tim?

Tim (Total imaging matrix) is a Siemens-unique technology. It has become

the new standard in MRI. There have been more than 1,000 Tim systems installed

    world-wide as of today.

Tim seamlessly integrates a high number of elements with a high number of

independent RF channels. For example, Tim [76x32] integrates 76 coil elements

which are read in 32 independent RF channels.

    What are Matrix Coils?

Matrix coils also called Tim coils are radio frequency (RF) coils with

a high number of elements and are developed by Siemens.

Greatest flexibility: several Matrix coils can be combined for tall or obese

patients or to cover a large region of interest because pathology does not

stop at the end of a coil. No other manufacturer can provide that.

Best iPAT capabilities and speed: Matrix coils are optimized for the best

Parallel Imaging capabilities (iPAT- which incorporates the two techniques

mSENSE and the Siemens-unique GRAPPA). So you do not need to invest

extra money to do Parallel Imaging.

Foremost scalability: with other manufacturers, a coil with a given number of

coil elements can only be used with a similar number of RF channels. With

Siemens and the Matrix coils, Tim scales digitally and automatically the number

of coil elements to your Tim level. When you want to upgrade to a higher Tim

level, no need to buy new coils!

Why is Open Architecture with Tim important?

Tims Open Architecture and its 32 independent RF channels enable to plug

current and future highest-density mosaic coils from Siemens, accessory or

    research-developed coils.

And even with this high-end technology, Tim systems do not need a dedicated

equipment room. Compact cabinets can be placed against the wall and

accommodate even your 32 independent channel components! And small siting

    requirements mean low cost!

With the high number of independent RF channels available with Tim, youare ready for new developments that will happen in the future.

Prototype Tim systems have already been expanded to 128 independent

RF channels at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. This is true Open

    Architecture.
