    Accessing The Medical Language Lab (MLL) is custom designed for each text, so multiple MLL products are

    available.

    Medical Language Lab (Standard) is compatible with one of the F.A. Davis Companys textbooks. Each

    new FA Davis Medical Terminology text includes an MLL access code on the inside cover of the book.

    Medical Terminology Complete is our complete online option within the MLL and includes an

    integrated e-book and lecture videos.

    System functionality for Medical Language Lab (Standard) and Medical Terminology Complete is the

    same. Functionality needed to access the e-book and lecture videos in Medical Terminology Complete

    is addressed in its own section within this manual.

    Medical Language Lab is compatible with Internet Explorer 8, Mozilla Firefox 7.0, Google Chrome 14.0,

    Safari 5.0, Mozilla Firefox 7.0, Google Chrome 14.0. Medical Language Lab is compatible with higher

    versions of these browsers.

    Certain exercises found on Medical Language Lab require Adobe Flash Player. Adobe Acrobat or Adobe

    Reader is required to view PDF files available within Medical Language Lab. JavaScript needs to be

    enabled to view certain features of Medical Language Lab.

    Creating an account Creating an account only takes a moment or two. Please note that if you are an existing DavisPlus

    member, you do not need to create a new account. Your DavisPlus account credentials will work when

    accessing Medical Language Lab.

    To begin, go to www.medicallanguagelab.com and click the Login/Join button.

    Click create account button

    To create an account, click the Create Account button.

    Enter your account credentials

    Next, enter your account credentials:

    1. Enter your email address

    2. Enter your password

    3. Enter your name

    4. Click the Create Account button

    Access codes After you have successfully created the account, you should be taken directly into the site. However,

    you still need to redeem and enter an Access Code to utilize the product.

    If you have purchased a new text book, the Access Code will be found on the inside cover of the book.

    Or, you can purchase an Access Code at the site, www.medicallanguagelab.com.

    Existing members Once you have created an account, log into the site by following these steps:

    Click the login/join button

    Clicking the Login / Join button, located in the top right corner of the screen.

    Login Information

    Log into the site by:

    1. Enter your email address and password

    2. Click the login button

    Resetting passwords From the login page, you can reset your password by (1) clicking the Forget Password link, and (2)

    entering your email address. A new password will be emailed to you. If the email doesnt arrive, please

    check your spam folder.

    New password generated

    A new password will be sent to your email address. If you do not receive the email, please check your

    spam folder.

    My account

    Passwords can be updated at any time on the My Account page. To access the My Account page,

    (1) click the dropdown arrow located by the Welcome message, and (2) click My Account.

    Create new password

    Enter the new password and click save.

    Confirmation message

    After the password successfully updates, a confirmation message will be displayed.

    Class ID If your instructor provides you with a Class ID, you will need to enter it into Medical Language Lab. In

    order to submit work to your instructors gradebook, you must enter the Class ID.

    You can enter the Class ID after you have created an account and redeemed an access code for Medical

    Language Lab.

    Insert class ID Once you have logged into Medical Language Lab and after you have entered an access code, click the

    Insert Class ID button.

    Redeem class ID Next, (1) enter the Class ID into the open text box and (2) click Submit.

    Alert An Alert message will appear. Click OK to move forward with submitting the Class ID.

    Confirmation

    A confirmation message will appear. Subsequently, the page will automatically refresh.

    Accessing the class

    After your instructor admits you into the class, the class will be displayed on your dashboard.

    Lessons A Medical Language Lab class includes Lessons, which is where you will conduct your work.

    Lessons contain Exercises. There are four Exercise types: Critical Listening, Response, Generation, and

    Practice.

    If you are using Medical Terminology Complete, the e-book and lecture videos are also contained within

    the Lessons.

    Accessing lessons After your instructor admits into the class, you can access the Lessons by clicking the Enter button on

    your dashboard.

    Class dashboard The Class Dashboard will display all Lessons. Each Lesson is a live link. Click the Lesson in which you

    would like to work.

    Accessing exercises To access an Exercise, click the Exercise link to begin working.

    Take a moment to review the due date of the Exercise. Work submitted after the due date will not be

    recorded in your instructors gradebook.

    Access E-book and lecture videos Medical Terminology Complete If you are using Medical Terminology Complete, the e-book and lecture videos are also contained within

    the Lesson.

    E-book

    To access the E-book, click the Read button.

    The e-book will open in a separate tab. You can work directly in the e-book and write your answers into

    the practice area. To reveal the correct answer, click the Answer Key.

    Lecture videos

    To access the lecture videos in Medical Terminology Complete, click the Watch button.

    The lecture video will launch.

    Practice v. test mode Before you begin working on an Exercise, check to see if you are in Practice or Test mode.

    Practice mode

    In Practice Mode, you may practice as many times as you wish and choose when to youre your

    work graded and submitted to your instructors gradebook. Work completed in practice mode

    will not be submitted to your instructors gradebook until you click the grade button.

    If you are in Practice Mode, the words Practice Mode will be displayed on the top right

    corner of the screen.

    Test mode

    If you are in Test Mode, the top right corner of the exercise screen will be blank. When you are

    in Test Mode, your grade will be submitted to your instructors gradebook after you complete

    the exercise and click grade.

    Submitting work to your instructors gradebook while in practice mode

    After you complete an Exercise in Practice Mode, you will be given three choices: Grade,

    Review, and Cancel.

    Grade

    In order for your work to be recorded in your instructors gradebook, you must click the Grade

    button.

    Review

    You may also choose to Review your work before it is graded. Please note that if you decide to

    Review your work, you must do the following in order for your work to be submitted to your

    instructors gradebook: (1) click review, (2) click try again, and (3) retake the exercise and click grade.

    Cancel

    If you choose the Cancel button, the pop-up message will close and you will be able to change an

    answer within the exercise. Once you have adjusted your answers, click Grade to submit the work to

    your instructors gradebook.

    Submitting work in test mode

    When you are working in Test Mode, a pop-up message will appear after you have answered

    the last question of the exercise. The pop-up message will give you two choices: Grade or

    Cancel.

    Grade

    You may choose to have the exercises Graded by Clicking the Grade button. Excercises that are

    graded will be recorded in your instructors gradebook.

    Cancel

    To review or amend the answers within the exercise, click Cancel. After you have reviewed or

    amended your work, dont forget to Grade the exercise.

    Generation excercises

    Generation Exercises are subjective and not graded by the system. Instead, Generation

    Exercises are graded by your instructor.

    There are two types of Generation Exercises: Audio and Text.

    Audio generation exercises

    In an Audio Generation Exercise, you will be asked to say a sentence or two using medical terminology.

    To access an Audio Generation Exercise, (1) expand the Generation Exercise group and (2) click on the

    Audio Generation Exercise link.

    Create your audio recording

    Record your voice by (1) clicking the record button, (2) if youre asked to grant the system access, click

    allow, and (3) click submit. Please note that you will need either an internal or external microphone in

    order to complete audio generation activities.

    Text generation exercises

    In a Text Generation Exercise, you will be asked to write a sentence or two using medical terminology.

    To access a Text Generation Exercise, (1) expand the Generation Exercise group and (2) click on the

    Text Generation Exercise link.

    Create your text

    In a Text Generation Exercise, you will be asked to write a sentence or two using medical terminology.

    Write your answer and then click submit.

    Additional Features

    Gradebook As a student, you have access to a gradebook.

    Access the gradebook

    Access the gradebook from the Dashboard.

    Gradebook details

    Once you have accessed the gradebook, you will be able to view the status of your work, grades, and

    time spent within a lesson.

    Class comparison

    You can also compare your performance with the rest of the class by clicking the Compare with Class

    button.

    Exercise grades

    To view your grades on an Exercise-by-Exercise level, click the view details button next to the Lesson

    name.

    Exercise details

    Once you have clicked into a Lesson to view your grades for completed Exercises, the following

    information will be displayed: Exercise type, title, end/due date, completed date (date you completed

    the Exercise), the status of your work, your score/grade, the number of times you attempted the

    Exercise before submitting it for grading, time spent within that Exercise, and feedback from your

    instructor.

    To view the actual Exercise, click on the live Exercise link.

    Pre-test and post-test Your instructor may choose to include a pre- or post-test. These tests are available in the Class

    Dashboard. Please note that pre-tests and post-tests can have due dates.

    Instructors feedback Your instructor can provide you feedback on your work. The instructors feedback will be displayed on

    your dashboard.

    Discussion forum Medical Language Lab also offers a Discussion Forum, which can be accessed from the Dashboard.

    Confirming work completion

    Confirm that your work has been recorded by checking the Exercise status or reviewing the

    gradebook.

    Exercise status

    Within the Exercise view, the status will be shown as Complete and a grade will be displayed.

    Student gradebook

    Your work will also be recorded in the Student Gradebook.

    Generation exercises

    When you have completed a Generation Exercise, the excercises will display as Complete.

    However, a grade will not be displayed until the exercise is graded by your instructor.
