Sick Day Procedures It is imperative that you contact the College (Norma Owens, Faculty Administrative Assistant at ext. 667 or [email protected]) as early as you can when you must cancel a class so that we may notify students in a timely manner. If you are teaching a night class, you will need to contact Norma before 4:30 PM, the day of your class, if at all possible. Please make sure you leave messages AND actually speak to an individual. Due to problems the college has experienced with class cancelations in the past, the Faculty Administrative Assistant will call you back to confirm your identity. At the beginning of each semester, each part-time instructor is credited with one (1) hour sick leave for each credit/contact hour taught for absences caused by illness or physical disability of the instructor. The instructor should make every effort to reschedule any missed class in consultation with the students and inform the Academic Administrator of the rescheduled date/time. If rescheduling is not possible, the instructor’s pay will be reduced for assigned hours missed over the allotted semester sick leave.

Security In order to promote a safe campus community, Mid Michigan Community College has a safety team that coordinates safety operations and emergency preparedness on campus. The College is committed to maintaining a campus that is free from recognized hazards that could potentially cause physical harm or threaten the safety of students, staff, faculty and visitors. Faculty can play an important role in helping promote the College’s safety program by sharing the following safety precautions with their students. The first class period provides a good opportunity for reviewing this information with students. Safety Hazards Harrison Campus: If a safety hazard is identified at the Harrison Campus, the Vice President of Academic Services, Dr. Mike Jankoviak, (Rm 206 or ext. 607), should be notified. MP: Contact Scott Mertes (ext. 230). A Campus Security person should be notified at any of our locations. Campus Security Officer Monday through Thursday, the College maintains a Campus Security Officer at the Harrison, Mt. Pleasant locations until 10:30PM. If you encounter anything, which will require assistance, please contact the Campus Security Officer. You may reach the Campus Security Officer by the following method: Harrison Campus: Monday – Thursday; 2:30PM – 10:30PM at 989-339-4204 MP: Monday – Thursday: 7:30AM – 10:30PM at 989-339-7323 or 989-773-6622, ext. 577 Please do not hesitate to request any assistance that will help you in carrying out your professional responsibilities Campus Alert System MMCC subscribes to “e2Campus” to send time-sensitive communications to students, faculty and staff who choose to participate. By employing a variety of electronic communication tools, such as text messaging, email, and RSS feeds, emergency messages can be sent simultaneously to registered campus community members via cell phone, home phone, and Wi-Fi enabled devices. For more information or to sign up, go to midmich.edu, under the “Current Students” tab, click “MID Message/Alert Service” and follow the instructions  What is the Library Learning Services (LLS) Previously known as the Academic Support Center (ASC) In order to promote student success, MMCC students are welcome to take advantage of our Library Learning Services at no cost. The Writing and Reading Center assists students with their writing needs in any class. Whatever stages of the writing process a student may be at (ideas, drafts, and finals); s/he may set up an appointment or drop-in for consultation. Additionally, the LLS are also the testing center for placement testing, make-up exams, Internet classes, students with disabilities, and credit by examination. The Math Lab services: Students from any class may go to the lab for assistance with assignments from lecture classes; simply bring the assignment and textbook for help.

Page 8: MMCC ADJUNCT WELCOME GUIDE

  8

Peer tutoring and Supplemental Instruction are also set up through the LLS. If students are falling behind in their course work, they are encouraged to talk to their instructors first. If tutoring is suggested, a tutor may be assigned. Although our goal is to provide all requesting students with assistance, at peak times, tutoring is provided on a first-come/first-served basis.  Technowledge Lab The Technowledge at the MP is available for technology training on any topic, equipped with both Mac and Windows. For more information, contact the Help Desk at ext. 411.  Independent Study A student, at the discretion of the full-time instructor, may register for course work independently. The appropriate Academic Administrator must approve all independent study course work before completing an independent study contract (which must be picked up from the Academic Administrator). These contracts need to be completed and turned into the Academic Administrator prior to the beginning of the semester. The Internet Technology Group The Internet Technology Group (ITG) serves the faculty of MMCC with creative solutions and assistance to multimedia needs. They are equipped with talented multimedia producers, up-to-date technology, and a state-of-the-art facility. They also offer access to our video studio, audio recording booth, and rental podcast equipment (upon request). ITG has worked with MMCC’s faculty to produce a variety of podcasts, video productions, audio productions, animations, and 3D models to create asynchronous learning materials, develop new concepts, and promote new ideas and research. The ITG video studio is equipped with HDV cameras, DSLR photography cameras, professional audio lavaliere and shotgun mics, a green screen, black wall and white wall capabilities, professional lighting, and a five foot wide white board. The studio can be easily modified to suit the unique needs of your production. Appointments can be set up to discuss how you can implement podcasting, video production, audio production, animation, and 3D modeling into the MMCC experience. Multimedia Production Coordinator, Noah Lueke is eager to help you with any ideas you may have. You may call Noah at 989-773-6622, ext. 110 or email at [email protected] How to submit f inal grades IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT TO TURN GRADES IN ON TIME (USUALLY AT 4:30pm ON THE TUESDAY AFTER EXAM WEEK). FAILURE TO TURN GRADES IN ON TIME HAVE FEDERAL CONSEQUENCES FOR MMCC, AND INHIBIT THE IMMEDIATE PLANS OF YOUR STUDENTS. To submit final grades, follow the steps below. Near the end of each semester, Associate Dean of Student and Academic and Support Services, Scott Mertes, will send out an email reminder of the procedures listed below. 1. Log in to the MMCC Portal and click on MidWeb at the top of the page 2. Click on “Faculty” from the menu on the right 3. Under “Faculty Information” click on “Attendance/Grading” 4. Select the correct term and click “Submit”

Page 9: MMCC ADJUNCT WELCOME GUIDE

  9

5. Select the correct course and select “Final” from the drop down menu 6. Confirm that the information at the top of the next page is correct 7. Enter the appropriate grades and click “Submit” – Remember that for security reasons, there is a relatively quick “disconnect”, so if you don’t “Submit” from time to time, you will have to sign back in. Notes: An “I” for incompletes must also have an Expiration date. After the expiration date, the “I” will turn to an “F”. Please send the signed Incomplete Grade Contract to Enrollment Services. For Federal Financial Aid purposes, you need to provide the last date of attendance for “F” grades. The column on the right is for that date. If a student appears on your roster and you believe they “dropped, officially they didn’t. “W”s are issued only by Enrollment Services. Please enter the grade the student earned by not attending. If it is determined that the student did officially drop, Enrollment services will make the correction. MMCC does not issue an “A+” or an “E” as grades. An “A” is the highest grade allowed and an “F” is used to indicate failure. At the end of each semester all instructors shall turn in their grade books (or a copy of the grade book) to the Faculty Administrative Assistant, Room 252, Harrison Campus, or a spreadsheet grade book emailed to [email protected], with a written explanation of how the grades were computed. This will allow the College to deal with any grade questions that might arise after the instructor has moved from the area.
