Telus’ fibre launched Big ribbon-cutting at the Telus learn- ing centre in City Furniture on Friday, as Telus’ fibre optic city-wide upgrade wraps up and their new white-hot fast service goes online. Merritt is the first in BC, and 1 of only 3 municipalities in Western Canada to enjoy a ‘full-build’ and 150Mbps down- load speeds (equivalent to downloading a 3.5 GB HD movie in 4 minutes). What makes Merritt unique is that every home is pre-connected, whether you intend to sign up with Telus’ new service or not. Those pre-existing connec- tions mean that account changes & new hook-ups, such as with rental units, are quicker than ever before. City Furniture has enlarged Telus’ space in their premises, for a discovery & learning centre, also a first. And as part of their ‘give where we live’ pro- gram, Telus has do- nated $1000 to the NV Community Theatre So- ciety’s efforts to build a cinema/theatre in Merritt. Avalanche preparedness After this weekend’s avalanche tragedy, Avalanche Canada’s warning is still in effect. “We are urging British Columbians and visitors to our beautiful province to take great caution when exploring out- doors. Be aware of the snow conditions in the area before heading out — check the forecast at www.avalanche.ca — take an avalanche skills training course and take the proper gear (transceiver, probe, and shovel). This won’t eliminate the risk, but it will increase the chances for returning home safely,” said Hon. Naomi Yamamoto, Minister of State for Emer- gency Preparedness Aries March 21 - April 19 The distinction between a minor nuisance & potential source of major trouble, is not always clear. Don't spend too much time responding to challenges which, if left alone, might just go away. Cancer June 21 - July 22 You may find it hard, given this week's developments, to per- suade yourself that the uni- verse is anything other than on your side. Libra Sept 23 - Oct 22 Playing it safe is all well and good, until life presents the kind of opportunity that can only be seized with a willingness to take some small gamble. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 19 You always resist accidentally succumbing to self-deception. But this week, you may have to extend a rescue branch to someone who is now up to their neck in that quagmire! Virgo Aug 23 - Sept 22 Soon, you'll see the enormity of a situation and recognise the true intensity of it. This will bring clarity and a sense of in- spiration as you see what needs to happen next. Sagittarius Nov 22 - Dec 21 Why does anyone make more effort than they need, unless they care so much about the outcome that they feel almost obliged to put all they've got into it. This week, feign nonchalance Pisces Feb 19 - Mar 20 Revisit an old agreement, arrangement or contract. Is everyone still honouring the spirit of that plan? Don't worry, but be inspired by your chance to get things set straight. Taurus April 20 - May 20 Not uncommon to experience moments of doubt. Or, an un- related development that causes you to wonder if you are on the right track. Be brave this week, and carry on. Leo July 23 - Aug 22 However hard existence may at times seem to be, the universe wants to support us as best it can. Events, this week, offer you the chance to benefit from a gesture of largesse. Scorpio Oct. 23 - Nov 21 Is this the right time or the wrong time? No one can re- lieve you of the responsibility, the choice has to be yours. But bravery, this week, will not go unrewarded.
