MOCM
Welcome to Season 3!
Season 3 of the Missouri Chamber Music Festival is a celebration of Stravinsky, Schubert, and more. From the resplendent grandeur of the Octet in F to the musical jewel of the Fantasie in F minor for piano 4-hands, we explore the romance of Schubert. Travel with Stravinsky from his seminal, tribal balletic masterpiece in its original form to a gem that opens his neo-classic period, an artistic trail he took less than 10 years to blaze. MOCM is also proud to present the world premiere of kiss to the earth by Amy Beth Kirsten, commissioned by MOCM for The Calyx Piano Trio with support by the Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Program.
In addition to a spectacular artist roster this season, MOCM brings you special guests including the inimitable David Robertson, Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony and exquisite dancers of the Missouri Ballet Theatre.

Suite SpringThursday, June 13, 2013 at 5 pmFirst Congregational Church of Webster Groves10 West Lockwood Avenue
The MOCM 2013 season begins with two of Igor Stravinsky’s most transformative works. Suite Italienne (1925) for Violin and Piano represents the grace, balance, and clarity of the Neo-Classic aesthetic. In centennial celebration of The Rite of Spring, the chamber music of Stravinsky’s original two piano version is explored. This version served as blueprint for his revolutionary work which forever changed the landscape of music.

SerenadeSaturday, June 15, 2013 at 7 pmFirst Congregational Church of Webster Groves10 West Lockwood Avenue
Written in the last year of Schubert’s life, the Fantasia in F Minor takes us into the world of the tone poem and gives us an intimate look at a forward thinking artist. Two serenades by Nielsen and Schubert round out the program. The first by Nielsen featuring low voices is humorous and chivalric, while the Octet of Schubert is grand and orchestral in emotive scope.

MOCM presents its first commissioned piece with the world premiere of a new work by composer Amy Beth Kirsten. Inspired by the centennial of the Rite of Spring, Ms. Kirsten draws upon Stravinsky’s history in kiss to the earth, featuring The Calyx Piano Trio. The Faustian parable The Soldier’s Tale is brought to life with narration by St. Louis Symphony Music Director David Robertson and dancers of the Missouri Ballet Theatre. Dancing with the devil in this cautionary tale is alluring with MOCM’s amazing Festival Artists under the baton of the multi-faceted James Sommerville.
This commission has been made possible by the Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Program, with generous funding provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Chamber Music America Endowment Fund.
