Hi Monsters! I hope that you have had a wonderful July! Although July was fun, it is time for August to come by and for school to start again. Honestly, I’m pretty excited to the new school year to come. With the new school year, there are new events to inspire you, and new faces to be inspired by you! Make sure you set a great example for the incoming freshmen.

Letter from the Editor

Before you get busy from your school activities, you should really consider getting into those August service events! Throughout the year, there are times we find it hard to fit community service into our schedules while we are booked with other clubs, sports, and homework! Before you get busy, try to get into helping the community! This goes especially for you seniors! Try to get a good collection of service hours so that you can apply for the Key Club stole that will perfect your graduation gown! I’m pretty excited for this new school year thinking about all of the new experiences we’ll have together! Sincerely, Your Bulletin Editor, Jeffrey Lam.

City Parks: Making a difference

It was as if I was in looking at my future self as I learned skills certainly needed for my adult life. First off, this event was called "Making a Difference" which automatically caught my eye. As I picked up gloves and tools along with my fellow members of four different schools, I knew we were getting much more back then what we were giving. I put on those gloves, took a shovel, and started to do my duties as not only a key clubber, but as a responsi-ble member of the communi-ty. I pulled weeds, cleaned up the park as needed and met new friends along the way. I figured out that there is a way to help out and have fun continuously while volun-teering for a long period of time. After all the laborious work, the park was stunning and beautiful as can be. I couldn't believe what the outcome was for such little actions like picking a weed or mowing the edge of the grass. I learned a plethora of valuable information about weeding, the appropriate tools for specific jobs, and although the gardening wasn't a walk in a park, it was a great experience to use later on for other park clean ups and even in my own garden someday. The coordinator shared with us some information about the layoffs of her crew and how the extra hand we gave was greatly appreciated. After she announced that, I didn't care about the hours of lost sleep because well, the deed of volunteering was done and that's all that really mattered.

Fourth of July 5-Miler

After being out of the country for so long, I was really eager to get back in touch with Key Club. The best way to get in touch with Key Club is to dive right into community service, and the Run4Independence event was a smooth start after a long break. Our duties were to pass out water to thirsty runners that passed by and to clean up after them as they tiredly dropped their cups to the floor. On the way to where our work-stations were, one of the event coor-dinators told us what this 37th annu-al event was about. He mentioned how this annual event initially start-ed as a run just for the sake of good fun, but then transitioned into a fun run as well as a run that accepts donations for the sake of the Elk Grove community. The money used goes towards facilities in bene-fit for both the elderly and the young to be built, reconstructed, or upgraded. At the station, Vinda Le, Jenny Lee, Candace Ly and I were happy to be of service. We quickly helped the people stationed there with preparing cups of water. The other helpers were friendly and inviting. With the runners in a rush to the finish line, there were times where I was splashed by the water. It was cold but it was refreshing too! This was a pretty fun event. Even though there is not much help in just passing out water, the runners were very appre-ciative of our presence. It made me glad that there are those that appreciate the little things that we do in our community! I am proud to be a Key Clubber and I plan to do as much as I can to give back to the community!
