Office no - 601, 6th Floor,58 Sahyog Building, Nehru Place, New Delhi, Delhi 110019 Dealer's Diary BSE Sensex closed lower by 145 points, while the Nifty 50 fell 46 points after posting dramatic gains earlier in the day. The BSE Sensex and broader NSE Nifty on Thursday hit their highest in nearly two years before falling towards the end of the session. Nifty moved close to breaching a key psychological level of 9,000 on continued hopes about the domestic economy after auto manufacturers reported higher sales. Sentiment was also boosted as Asian stocks inched to a 19-month high, a day after Wall Street hit record highs as investors were encouraged by US President Donald Trump’s less-combative tone in his first speech to the Congress. The Nifty Auto index was the best performing sector, with Tata Motors rising 3% after posting a 2% jump in February total sales. Shares of Wockhardt Ltd declined as much as 6.5%, after the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) issued a warning letter to the company’s Morton Grove plant, which will withhold all FDA approvals until a resolution is made. Realty index was the biggest sectoral laggard, down over 4% dragged by DLF (down 8.1%), Indiabulls Real Estate (down 5.9%) and Sobha (down 5.6%). Bajaj Auto also gained over 2% after auto sales data. Its total sales increased to 2.73 lakh units in February 2017 from 2.72 lakh units in year-ago month, driven by exports. Shares of Railway-linked stocks such as Titagarh Wagon and Texmaco Rail soared up to 6% during the day after the railway minister Suresh Prabhu presented Indian Railways Freight and Passenger Business Action Plan 2017-18, which railway officials are terming as "mini- budget". Titagarh Wagons later gave up some gains to end the day 2% higher while Texmaco Rail settled the day flat. Biocon shares fell over 7% dragging the pharma index after reports that the company will see two crucial inspections later this month and in early April. Company’s manufacturing sites will come up for inspections by the European medicines agency later this month and next will be an inspection by the US FDA. All except 2 telecom stocks settled the day in red with RCom, falling the most, down near 4%. Idea Cellular and Bharti Airtel fell .5% and 1.7% respectively. Shares of NALCO (up 5.24 per cent), Lakshmi Energy (up 5.26 per cent) ANG Industries (up 5.29 per cent) , Jubilant Food (up 5.35 per cent) , GMR Infra (up 5.70 per cent) , CIL Nova Petro (up 6.09 per cent) , Parabolic Drugs (up 6.25 per cent) , Cybertech Sys (up 7.13 per cent) , Rain Industries (up 7.13 per cent) and Deepak Nitrite (up 8.23 per cent) are some of the stocks that rallied over 5 per cent intraday during the day. Silver imports by India, one of the world’s top buyers, will probably shrink this year to the lowest since 2012 as the government cracks down on black money, farmers struggle for cash and stockpiles remain ample. The Dow Jones scaling the 21,000 level in overnight trade has created a feel-good factor in Asian markets and this should rub off on Dalal Street too. But it remains to be seen if that buoyancy can help Nifty50 cross the crucial hurdle in the 8,950-8,970 zone and head towards the 9,000 mark. Watch this space as we bring you all the action in a live blog from Dalal Street. Asian shares rose on Thursday as investors were encouraged by President Donald Trump's less combative tone in his first speech to Congress, which sent Wall Street stocks sharply higher, while growing bets on a US rate hike this month buoyed the dollar.
