When you open, the project guide side pane and toolbar will appear
The project Guide is there to assist you in performing various functions within project 2007. As illustrated on the project Guide Toolbar, MS project will provide assistance in entering tasks, tracking a project, setting up resources, and reporting functions.
To obtain assistance, simply click on the appropriate choice on the toolbar
To close the project Guide, click on the “x” at the top right of the project Guide sidepane, or click on view, then toolbar and close Project Guide.

Menu Bar-appears at the top of the screen, and many commands will be similar to commands that you see in other Microsoft programs.
When you click on each command, a drop down list of commands appear Click on the appropriate command in the list
Toolbars- the standard and formatting toolbars appear below the menu bar. Shortcut buttons on these toolbars allow you to quickly access the most common commands.
Place your mouse over the short-cut button to see a description.
Enter Bar- when your mouse is an active cell, the entry bar displays the text

Information can be edited, deleted, or inserted, Click in the entry bar where the text is to be edited, deleted or inserted At the insertion point, edit, deleted or insert the new text Confirm or cancel the change by click on the “x” or the “√” at the left of the text
View Bar- the view bar contains icons that reflect the views that Microsoft feels are used most frequently
The current view you have selected from the view bar, will be recessed Change to a different view, by clicking on another icon in the view bar To see additional views, scroll to the bottom of the view bar, and click on the more view
icon. Choose the desired view from the list. To remove the view bar from the screen, choose view on the command line, and view
bar, to deactivate it.
Smart tags- periodically as an action is being performed a smart tag will appear in the cell informing you of actions that you could take
To perform then action, simply click on the smart tag, and choose the actions.

To open a project file that currently exists Choose file, open ( you will see a file open dialogue box) Click the drop down arrow: entry bar, to choose the location.
Double click the file name, or select the file and click on the open button
To start a New Project File
To open a new project file that does not currently exist

Click on file , new Double click on blank project( or select the templates option)
Note: you can choose to use Microsoft project templates, located on-online, or you may have saved a previous project file that you created, as a template for a future project.
A new file appears, and the project Guide is displayed on the left side of the screen. To have Microsoft project assist you with entering task information, click on Tasks on the project Guide.

To have Microsoft project assist you with Resource information
Click on Resource, on the project guide toolbar
To have Microsoft project assist you with Tracking information
Click on track, on the project Guide Toolbar

Clicking on the zoom-in and zoom-out button will move one increment at a time, back to 15 minutes intervals, or all the way out to half year intervals (H1,H2)
NOTE: the timescale in the above Gant chart is zoomed to one week interval
