The Filmmaking Team:Defining Roles & Responsibilities
Development Stage
Writer: Heads up writing the treatment and script, contributes ideas
Director: Heads up brainstorming, assists in script writing
Camera Operator: In charge of determining what shots will used to film each scene in the script. These notations will appear in the written script. Also contributes ideas.
Editor: Contributes ideas, assists with script writing
Producer: Will pitch idea to teacher, contributes ideas and assists with script writing
Pre-Production Stage
Writer: Helps the team breakdown the scenes into specific camera shots in order to create the storyboards.
Director: Heads up storyboard creation. Camera Operator: Determines the order in which
scenes will be filmed. Contributes to storyboards.Editor: In charge of gathering all props and
equipment that will be needed to film the script. Contributes to storyboards.
Producer – In charge of determining where all scenes will be shot and contributes to storyboards. Determines which team members will appear in which roles. Assists director in rehearsing actors.
Production
Writer: In charge of recording additional sound, act in film as needed.
Director: Uses the script and the storyboards in order to supervise the film shoot.
Camera Operator: Operates camera using storyboards and director instructions.
Editor: In charge of unloading film from camera, storing it properly in the computer, and organizing it. Act in film as needed.
Producer: Use the script and storyboard to keep track of what has been filmed. Act in film as needed.
Post-Production
Writer: Writes voice-over narration if required. Assist with editing process
Director: Finds additional sounds and music as needed. Assist with editing process.
Camera Operator: Finds additional photos and video as needed. Assist with editing process.
Editor: Supervises editing and has the final say in all editing decisions.
Producer: Assists with editing process.
